Last month, ABC announced that they are bringing Roseanne back for 8 episodes, and yesterday on The Tonight Show Laurie Metcalfe explained to Jimmy Fallon how it happened.
Back in March, John Goodman reunited with Sara Gilbert on The Talk where they recreated a scene on that couch and Julie Chen asked him if he would do a revival of Roseanne. Dan told her, “Oh hell yes!” After they were done taping that show, Gilbert called her castmates and asked them the same question. She got the same answer, so she put on her Executive Producer hat and made some calls. The rest is Hollywood history.
Another thing she confirmed, is that the children, who were born during the sitcoms final seasons will also be part of the revival.
The morale to this story is if you want a revival of your show, then you have to recreate the original to get the updated version like Roseanne did on The Talk and Will & Grace did for Hillary Clinton, who is next?
When rumors started swirling that Roseanne was coming back, fans had 2 questions. The first one is how are the going to explain how Dan is alive and the second one is which Becky would play her in the revival.
Today, when ABC announced that the beloved sitcom is coming back in 2018, they answered one of the questions. In the press release announcing the cast they said, “The eight-episode reboot, featuring the original cast – Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky)… Sarah Chalke, who played the character Becky in later seasons, will also appear in another role.” Hopefully her name will still be Becky because that is how we know her.
When it comes to show coming back, I am hoping it still has its ’90s feel because today’s sitcom are missing the long lasting feel that the comedic programs had in the latter part of last century and we need that. We also need the realness of Roseanne.
There were several big sitcoms in the ’90s and Roseanne is the biggest one of them all. I am not referring to the show’s stars’ weight, who are not fat anymore. I am talking about the show’s success. It still runs in syndication on several networks and it is still adored by fans all over the World.
Today’s news is going to make those fan very happy because Deadline is reporting that the legendary comedy is being shopped around for an 8-epsiode season with Roseanne Barr, John Goodman and Sara Gilbert reprising their iconic roles. Also it looks like Laurie Metcalfe and her Big Bang Theory co-star Johnny Galecki will be joining them. No word which Becky will be doing the show and if her character will be back. We do know that original Mark will not be part of it because Glenn Quinn passed away in 2002.
No word what the plot of the show will be or how they will bring Dan back, but I do know we want our Connors back. I am glad that they found away to bring Goodman back because he is the rock of the family that keeps them all in line. Just don’t tell Roseanne.
Where will the 8-episodes air? That is still to be determine. Deadline says that ABC, who originally aired the show, is definitely interested. So is Netflix, home of the Revivals, along with several other places that have shown their desire to air the influential program that changed the landscape of TV.
I love the age of revivals because it has given us more episodes of our favorite shows like Arrested Development, The X-Files, Gilmore Girls, Boy Meets World, Full House, Raven, Twin Peaks, Will & Grace and now Roseanne. Now, if only we can get them to revive Dinoasaurs, I would be the happiest baby!
Roseanne and Joe Jonas, who was there with DNCE, were on The Late Late Show with James Corden yesterday and they took this photo. I have no idea what I have been smoking today, but I totally find this picture like so trippy. Can you dig it?
Roseanne Barr posted a photo of herself looking like someone roughed up her face. So what happened to her? The actress got a chemical peel and that is how she looked when her face was peeled off. Let’s just say she looked better in She’s Devil.
Things I have learned from this picture? Never ever get a chemical peel.
