Today is Oprah Winfrey’s last show ever and thanks to Jimmy Kimmel Live we now have an anthem to honor the momentous occasion. The late night host teamed up with Boyz to Men to rerecord their saddest song It’s so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday and dedicate it to Lady O. I am sure if the Queen of Daytime ever watched JKL she would be as touched as I was.
Lady Gaga has taken the top spot on Forbes Celebrity 100 List from Lady O and you know the Oprah Winfrey is not going to like that. Some woman who wears weird clothes and makeup, and is half her age is now #1 on the list instead of her. Well at least she is was #2 on the list just ahead of Justin Bieber. Could you imagine if she fell behind him, I would hear her screams here in LA all the way from Chicago like when she used to do her Oprah’s Favorite Things shows.
It wasn’t only Lady Gaga vs Lady O on the list. Charlie Sheen was #28 while his old boss Chuck Lorre came in 49 spots behind him at #77. Angelina Jolie came at #11 while her man’s ex-wife Jennifer Aniston was 10 places behind her at #21. Well the Friend can get some satisfaction because her ex Brad Pitt came in at #45. David Letterman and Jay Leno might be close in the ratings, but the gap toothed host won by a chin when he came in at #33 as compared the man who took his job who was #56. Jay-Z might wear the pants in marriage, but his wife Beyonce came in at #29 and he came in at #38. They aren’t the only married couple there, but with the other one the man came in 5 places higher than wife, Tom Brady was #55 and Gisele Bundchen was #60. Kate Hudson didn’t make the list, but her baby daddy’s band Muse is in at #34.

For some reason people thought that Oprah Winfrey would wave her magic wand and All My Children and One Life to Live would be saved. Oprah has abandoned daytime for cable and it seems like she is now declaring that time of television is dead. She took to YouTube to say Soaps are over just like her daytime show. Just because she deserted Daytime for her OWN network, doesn’t mean the genre is over.
Yes as she said the numbers are down, but all of broadcast is down. During The Cosby Show and Roseanne days the top rated shows on television were getting around 40 million viewers and today American Idol is getting around half that. So does that mean primetime is dead too?
Oprah just because you are leaving daytime television doesn’t mean it is all going to go away too. So I say long live the four remaining soap operas and here’s to praying to that 5th one joins them shortly.
You know, two years ago they said that sitcoms were a dying breed and then Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory resurrected the genre and it can happen for Soaps too!!!
Oprah Winfrey is ending her show in just over a month and before she signs off forever she is auctioning off a VIP ticket experience. You and three people of your choice will go to the show on May 4th and cut the line to your guaranteed seats at the taping. Wait there’s still more because you are going to get to meet the Queen of Daytime backstage. And the best part is it doesn’t stop there because you will also get a picture with the one and only to remember the momentous occasion! So how much are you willing to pay for that experience you will be talking about for the rest of your life? The bid is now at $26,000 and expected to go up to $50,000. Would you spend that much to meet Lady O??? I am sure a lot of people are willing to because it is for a good cause. The proceeds from the auction is going to The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. They provide innovative support to courageous human rights defenders around the world. It assists advocates who have won the RFK Human Rights Award to boldly confront injustices. Bidders support the RFK Center’s work on reconciliation in Darfur, advocating for children in Haiti, bringing an end to brutal oppression in Zimbabwe, and on behalf of Gulf Coast residents affected by Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil disaster.
Chris Rock was on The Gayle King Show on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network today and his daughters Lola, 8, and Zahra, 6, recorded a special message for their dad. In the taped video they said they loved their dad and look forward to getting his kisses. How cute are his two little girls saying how much they love their daddy!
