Before Josh Groban had a magical night with Celine Dion, that launched his singing career, he wanted to do something else. He told Stephen Colbert on The Late Show yesterday that he wanted to be a magician.
So much so, he auditioned for a junior membership at The Magic Castle in Hollywood. Sadly for him, it went horribly wrong. His trick was the amazing disappearing quarter that decided to show itself before it was supposed to. Therefore, he did not get in.
Instead of becoming a magician, he became a musician with a voice that could make all the rabbits pop out their top hats before the time they are supposed to magically appear.
I wonder why he does not incorporate magic into his act. Instead of using a pungi, the snake charmer could use his song You Raise Me Up to get several snakes out of a barrel. Or he could cut the Grobanites in half as he sings Brave? That is a show I would pay to see.
One show I do not have to pay to see him in is The Tony Awards on Sunday night. Hopefully, he is a better host than he is a magician on Broadway’s magical night! If not, then he will be doing a Harry Houdini and disappear.

Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles are going to host the Tonys together June 10th on CBS and it is going to be a night of sexual tension. Not between the Mean Girls and, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child; but between the two hosts. Can you feel their attraction for each other through your computer screen? It is so hot, I can barely type on my keyboard because the keys are so hot from their desire for one another. In the words of Tony award-winning musical The Lion King, can you feel the love tonight?
A year ago, Josh Groban made his Broadway debut in The Great Comet and this year, he will be hosting the Tony Awards with Sara Bareilles. The actress recently wrapped her run in Waitress and starred as Mary Magdalene in NBC’s live version of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Groban had this to say about the honor, “To be at the helm of a night celebrating the best of that theater with a person (Bareilles) I just laugh way too much with, is beyond words. But I will have words on Tony night! The best words! I look forward to flailing about in front of my peers. It will be with all the love and respect in the world for the room we’re lucky enough to be in.”
Nominations will be announced by Leslie Odom, Jr. and Katharine McPhee on May 1st and the Tonys will air on CBS June 10th.
Tony Danza is playing Josh Groban’s father on Netflix’s Good Cop. Yesterday, was their last day filming the cop drama and both men shared this photo. Now that we have seen the two of them together, they really look like father and son. They even have the same eyes. Don’t you think they look related?
Good Cop comes to the streaming service in the fall.
Josh Groban was seen sitting behind a psychiatry stand like the one that Lucy van Pelt uses in the Peanuts comic strip; so is he auditioning for her part in the live-action version of the movie that is not coming out? Most likely not, but he did admit that he is “also a client.” I wonder what type of advice Lucy would give him? What would tell him to do if you were the psychiatrist-in-training?
If they do make the live-action Peanuts movie and he gets the part of Lucy, then maybe his dog can play Snoopy?
