Due to the Writers and Actors’ strikes, the 2023-2024 season was delayed. However, tonight at 8p, it is back with Night Court and Extended Family on NBC.
The Night Court sequel’s second season begins where it left off, and Roz (Marsha Warfield) coming before Judge Dan Fielding (John Laroquette) in New Orleans.
The two old friends catch up when he visits her in her jail cell. We find out that the former bailiff is now a private investigator. She convinces Dan to help her on a case in NYC, and he is reunited with his Night Court friends.
Since he left, they have been busy. Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch) has been dating again now that she split from her fiancé. So, she is still willing to meddle in people’s personal lives, especially if it is about love.
Gurgs (Lacretta), the bailiff, spent some time in London, and she is more sophisticated because of that.
And then there is Olivia (India de Beaufort). She hasn’t done anything, so she comes up with a new carer. Can she do it?
And now that Dan is back in NYC, will he decide to stay? Why would he leave his dream job for a nightmare one? Abby is going to try her hardest to get him to stay.
And with the sitcom is back, and just in time!
Then at 8:30p, it is time to get to know divorcees Jim (Jon Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer) better as they try to make their Extended Family better.
They divorced a year ago after 18 years of marriage, and they decided to split their time in their old place for their kids, Grace (Sofia Capanna) and Jimmy (Finn Sweeney).
Julia has moved on and is engaged to Trey (Donald Faison), who owns the Boston Celtics.
Now that they are engaged, Julia wants him to stay over when it is her week. However, Jim brings up that their constitution doesn’t allow that to happen until they are married.
Together, they will have to negotiate the contract. And that will be the first of a few issues they will have to deal with from their signed deal. What happens when Trey does something to break it and gets caught by Jim?
Will it tear their Extended Family apart or bring them closer together?
You will just have to watch to find out. That, and to get to know a new comedy that will make you laugh because it is so smart. And it is also relatable to so many exes.
Tonight after the football game on NBC, we are going to meet our new Extended Family.
Jim (Jon Cryer) and Julia (Abigail Spencer) were a loving couple who had two kids, Grace (Sofia Capanna) and Jimmy Jr (Finn Sweeney). But after 17 years of marriage, they got a divorce.
And now they share custody of their kids. As in, the kids stay in one house, and their parents rotate who lives there every week.
Together, they are trying to keep things amicable between them. But there is a reason they are no longer married. And that is because they don’t get along and disagree about a lot of things.
Julia is an uptight, crisis publicist who fell in love with Trey (Donald Faison), and they are engaged. Trey is an MIT graduate who owns the Celtics. He is unlike Jim, who is unorganized and still very close to his father (Lenny Clark). Jim is also jealous of Trey for obvious reasons. But they are civilish to each other.
They are a dysfunctional Extended Family, but they are still a family. And they are trying to find a way to make their new normal work. And we get to see them fail and succeed at doing this.
Extended Family is the family-friendly sitcom we need now because the Cleavers and the Nelsons are a thing of the past.
And like those shows, this series brings the laughs because there is so much chemistry between the actors who brilliantly act what the writers gave them to do.
I have a feeling that Extended Family will be around for an extended time.
Extended Family moves to its regular night on Tuesday, January 2nd at 8:30p after Night Court.
Last week, the SAG-AFTRA strike ended after 118 days, and production is finally able to begin again. But then, I read that most shows were expected to start after Thanksgiving.
However, on my Facebook feed today, I saw that NBC’s Extended Family with Jon Cryer, Donald Faison, Abigail Spencer, Sofia Capanna, and Finn Sweeney will begin taping this Friday, and 1iota has tickets for the new sitcom.
It’s really happening! Production is really back! So while CBS announced today that their Fall lineup will debut in February, NBC is making it happen.
However, I should add that 1iota also has tickets for four other multi-camera scripted shows with their start dates: NBC’s Night Court on November 21st, Netflix’s That ’90s Show on December 1st, CBS’s Bob Hearts Abishola on December 5th, and Netflix’s The Upshaws on December 7th.
In 1986, everyone was obsessed with John Hughes’ Pretty in Pink. People debated if Andie made the right choice when she chose Blain over Duckie at the prom.
It was a hard decision. Should she kiss the cute, rich preppy or her lovable, awkward best friend? Of course, she went with the first guy.
The last time we saw them, Andie, aka Molly Ringwald, put her lips over the man whose kisser she thought they looked better on.
But that was then. Andrew McCarthy recently sat down with Jon Cryer for his documentary about the Brat Pack. We don’t know what they talked about, but I hope they talked about the lip thing.
Actually, I lied. We do know one thing they didn’t talk about. And that thing McCartney said is that Cryer “didn’t once call me a major appliance!”
This is not the only cast member from the coming-of-age classic that McCarthy shared a reunion photo with recently. He also has been working with James Spade on the final season of Blacklist.
I love that McCarthy keeps working with his ex-co-stars! That says a lot about him.
Back when Jon Cryer and Demi Moore filmed the 1984 movie No Small Affair, they actually had an affair. The actress talked about it in her book, and she always felt that it was no small affair for her co-star.
According to Page Six, she says that she took his virginity and “It pains me to think of how callous I was with his feelings — that I stole what could have been such an important and beautiful moment from him.”
The actor wanted to clear things up, so he took to social media to explain his side of the story. He wrote, “Well, the good thing about this is she doesn’t have to feel bad about it anymore, because while I’m sure she was totally justified making that assumption based on my my skill level (and the stunned look on my face at the time), I had actually lost my virginity in high school.” Then he added, “But she’s right the other part, I was over the moon for her during a very troubled time in her life. I have nothing but affection for her and not a regret in the world.”
What is there for him regret? Well, maybe that awkward conversation he must have had with Ashton Kutcher, who was married to Moore at the time, when the two of them worked together on Two and a Half Men. Does Cryer go, “Hi, I am Jon and I f*cked your wife when you were a toddler? You were learning how to hold your peepee and I was learning what its really used for”?
