HBO Max is giving us a new generation of Degrassi
January 13th, 2022 under Degrassi, HBO Max. [ Comments: 1 ]

Degrassi has been around for over 40 years, and that is long enough to give us a third generation of the show about high school and everything that comes along with it. Therefore, HBO Max is giving birth to the third take of it.

The original Degrassi launched in 1979 and ran until 1991. Degrassi: The Next Generation ran from 2001-2015. And coming in 2023, we will get the next next generation.

Since this is just an announcement, we don’t know if anyone (minus Drake) from the original two versions will be back in some form. But, I am hoping they find a way to merge them all together. That is what made TNG so special.

Well, that and the fact that they take on uncomfortable issues and make them relatable for the teenage audience. They don’t shy away from the challenging and controversial subjects like abortion, homosexuality, suicide, teenage pregnancy, and so much more.

Unlike American shows that focus on teens, Degrassi is not cheesy or dumbed down. They keep it real, and teens appreciate that. I am hoping they continue to do that with the upcoming ten episodes.

Even though the second sequel will not debut for another year, The Next Generation will begin streaming in the Spring on HBO Max. And the mothership is coming to the Cartoon Network soon. If you have never seen the 1,0, then you should watch it. It is television excellence.

Can you tell I am a Degrassi fan and can’t wait to see what happens next?

The trailer for And Just Like That kind of confirms the rumor

HBO Max finally released the trailer for And Just Like That. You know, the sequel to Sex and the City. And I kind of feel the rumors are true about Mr. Big. I just got the vibe from it.

I know that is my big takeaway from it? But it is. What was yours? Besides Carrie’s dazzling shoe collection and closet. I want to live in her closet. I can’t wait to see what else is in it starting on December 9th.

On that day, the streaming service will release two episodes. After that, we will get one new episode every Thursday until February 3rd.

Therefore, get your ingredients for a Cosmopolitan ready so that you can down a few while you watch the series with your girlfriends and feel like you are Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte. Too bad I can’t join you because I am a Samantha, and she won’t be back to play for this go around.

When it comes to what we can expect, HBO didn’t say much. All they said is, “Amidst the intertwining lives in the town of East Highland, 17-year-old Rue (Zendaya) must find hope while balancing the pressures of love, loss, and addiction.”

So, we will just have to rewatch the trailer for clues.

Head of the Class gets an A+
November 4th, 2021 under Bill Lawrence, HBO Max. [ Comments: none ]

When I heard they were remaking Head of the Class, I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. I am a fan of the original, and I didn’t think they could recreate that magic. However, HBO Max found a way to do it.

It is not the same, but it works for 2021. Shows for teenagers are different now, as compared to what they were in the ’80s. Therefore, the producers adapted it for today’s youth. However, us former youths can enjoy it too.

So what is the remake about? Alicia (Isabella Gomez) is a new teacher, who wants to be the cool teach, and she is assigned the Honors Debate class. She has five over-achieving students to her class, and she wants to befriend them all. They are skeptical because she is a teacher.

Who are these students? There is Luke, who is the future overworked businessman of American. Miles (Adrian Matthew Escalona) is his best friend, and he is timid. Luke is going to try to get him to come out of his shell by forcing him to do things he doesn’t want to do. Luke is doing this to help his friend, not hurt. However, that will backfire on him during the pilot episode.

Terrell (Brandon Severs) is a jock and he has a crush on the Principal’s (Christa Miller) popular daughter Sarah (Katie Beth Hall). Sarah is not in the debate class, but she winds up joining.

Robyn (Dior Goodjohn) and (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) are besties, and they support their classmates. They are neither popular nor losers.

Together the six of them are ready to take on any debate and anyone who wants to take them on. They need to stick together because being the smart kids can cause their classmates to make fun of them. And with Alicia’s help, they are going to do just that!

What we get is a show that we will enjoy watching them become a strong group in the first ten episodes that are available to stream now. So spend the weekend binging the comedy. And then, when you are done, you can binge the original Head of the Class.

It is the perfect way to spend the day because they make high school look like fun. That is the good thing about TV shows. They set us up for the fail. What HS was ever like the one we saw on TV?

Head of the Class is created by Bill Lawrence, Amy Pocha, and Seth Cohen.
