Days after Fox suspended Bryan Singer for not showing up to the Bohemian Rhapsody set, they have decided to make that suspension permanent.
The director explained why he has not been on set to The Hollywood Reporter. He said, “Bohemian Rhapsody is a passion project of mine. With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health. Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services. This was not my decision and it was beyond my control.”
When it comes to the rumors that Rami Malek, who plays Freddie Mercury, and him had several confrontations on the set and that helped with Fox’s decision, Singer responded with, “Rumors that my unexpected departure from the film was sparked by a dispute I had with Rami Malek are not true…While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving.”
It also seems that Fox wants nothing more to do with him anymore. The Hollywood Reporter also says that back in October, they did not renew their first look contract with him. Not only that, they also asked him to vacate the production offices he has on their lot when he was done with this movie. Since he is no longer working on the film, they are forced to move out immediately.
This not the first time he has reportedly had problems on the set of a Fox film, but it will be the last.
Finally, no word how or if they will finish Bohemian Rhapsody that is close to being finished.
Next Christmas, Fox is expected to release the Freddie Mercury biopic, but Bohemian Rhapsody has hit a major snag. The movie’s director Bryan Singer has not shown up to work since the Thanksgiving break, thus forcing the studio to halt production.
The director’s rep told the BBC, Singer has “a personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family.” Then they added, “Bryan hopes to get back to work on the film soon after the holidays.”
Meanwhile sources told The Hollywood Reporter that “producers and his star had grown tired of Singer’s behavior, which saw him routinely show up late to set.” The trade also pointed out this is not the only time he disappeared from a production, he did the same on X-Men: Apocalypse and during Superman Returns.
Which makes you wonder if Fox will replace him or let him return to the set in the New Year.
Personally, I am OK with them cancelling the movie all together. I just don’t think Freddie Mercury’s story needs to be told. Considering this feature has been years in the making and not happening until now, I think the singer of Queen agrees with me.
For years we have heard that Sacha Baron Cohen was doing a movie about the legendary singer Freddie Mercury and then we heard it wasn’t happening. Today when he was on Howard Stern‘s radio show, the host wanted to know what happened.
The Shock Jock heard it was because they were going to go into the nitty gritty of his life, but Borat explained it was more than that. He claims that he should’ve known that things were going to go bad when he first met the band. He says that one of the members felt that their leader should die midway through movie. What? He then explained that that band member believed the second half of the film should be how the show went on for Queen after Mercury’s death.
Seriously, did Queen really go on without Freddie? They pretty much died the same day. To me, Queen was always Freddie Mercury and without him they are nothing.
Now having said that, I am so thrilled that they killed the biopic. As much as I love Mercury. I detest Cohen. He is no Freddie Mercury.
Josh Groban was on Repeat After Me yesterday and Wendi McLendon-Covey guided him into Frederick’s of Hollywood. Once he was inside, she instructed him to introduce himself to the whole store by singing his name. Then when a salesgirl came to help him out, he wanted to know what was the largest size they make in panties. The girl kept her professionalism as she asked him if he wanted crotchless or not. It just went downhill from there for him.
Eventually, Wendi whispered in his ear that he should sing his huge song, You Raise Me Up. Although she made him change the lyrics to, “She wears D-Cups cause they’re the size of mountains.” You know what, when he is done promoting his upcoming album Stages, that’s out on April 28th, he should release that song! You Raise Me Up really works with those lyrics, if you know what I mean…
Finally, he put on a black shiny newsboy cap and Freddie Mercury’s style works on him. Don’t you think that should be his signature look from now on?
BTW I wonder what he bought his girlfriend, Kat Dennings, from that store. He better not have left the lingerie shoppe empty handed. I mean, she has video proof that he was there, so there is no excuse why he didn’t buy her pair of those crotchless panties he had his eyes on or the nightgown he left his mark on! Right?
Adam Lambert announced today on Good Morning America that he will be touring with Queen this summer as there lead singer. He will be replacing the late great (irreplaceable) Freddie Mercury or as the Josh Elliott calls him Eddie Mercury. Dumb a$$.
To me no one can ever fill Freddie Mercury’s boots and this tour is like one of the shows you go to see at local beach during the summer where there is only member of the band left and yet they are acting like the original lineup is still jamming with them. You know, like those Oldies but Goodies concerts that are basically free because who would pay to see that one guy whose name you don’t know from the band you do.
What do you think of him touring with Queen?
