The 2013 Emmy nomination were announced today and they mostly suck because they are just so freaking elitist. They nominated people and shows that the average television viewer does not watch. For example more people watch NCIS on a weekly than watch all the televised noms combined. And most viewers won’t even know who the people are that got nominated because they don’t watch the shows that they are on.
I am happy that Jimmy Kimmel Live received several nominations for the show including Best Variety and Writing. Also I love that Political Animals was recognized for its greatness even if USA didn’t bring it back for a second season. It’s great to see every adult from Modern Family except for Eric Stonestreet.
Now when it comes to the really bad, Matt Le Blanc didn’t do anything worthy for the nom he got for Episodes this season. Was Al Pacino really that great in Spector when he sounded like himself the whole time? Was Connie Britton really that great on Nashville, when she does the same thing she does in every role she has?
Where is Rob Lowe for Behind the Candelabra? Jeremy Piven for Mr Selfridge? Cloris Leachman playing her own mother on Raising Hope? Lifetime’s Steel Magnolias and Lindsay Lohan for Liz & Dick?
What do you think of the noms? Who’s missing? Who shouldn’t be there?

Now that CBS is airing the Emmys again, they asked Neil Patrick to host that awards show again too like they did the Tonys. I am sure if CBS had the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the Grammys, they would have him do that t…oh wait they do have the Grammys so why isn’t he hosting that like he is hosting the Tonys and the Emmys?
BTW if you think that the How I Met Your Mother star will confuse the awards shows up, you are would be mistaken because here is what he said about doing both “And what perfect timing – I’ll just do the exact same script I’m about to use for the Tonys. ‘And the Emmy for Best Revival of a Musical goes to ‘Breaking Bad!’ See, told you it works.â€
You can see him host the Tonys on June 9th, the Emmys on September 22nd and in the final season of How I Met Your Mother some time around then.
You know CBS if and when David Letterman retires, NPH would be a great candidate to replace him!
Tonight America and the World is going to find out something I have known for years, Jimmy Kimmel is the funniest man on television. They are going to learn this because the late night host is going to host The Emmys on ABC at 8p est/5p pst.
Kimmel has a big advantage because he has a sincere love of television. But did you know that Kimmel has very quick wit and can respond to anything that is thrown at him without even there being a moment of silence. It is his love of TV and a quick humor that is going to make him the perfect host tonight. And it doesn’t hurt (in my opinion) that his Jimmy Kimmel Live staff are there to back him up tonight.
Now those are my thoughts about Jimmy Kimmel, but here are few of his about the Emmys, his show and a few other things. I recently was in a press circle with him at the TCA ABC Summer Press Tour Day and here is how he answered our questions. By readings his responses you will get to know him a little bit better and see why he will be one of the greatest Emmy hosts in a long time. Plus you will get to see just how humble and naturally funny he really is.
Does he think it was given that he was asked to host:
“I don’t think it was a given that I was asked. I was happy to have been asked. I won’t say I was surprised I’ve been asked, I figured they would ask me. I would’ve been very angry if I hadn’t been asked. So maybe that’s why they asked me.”
Does he plan on hurting someone to be memorable:
“I don’t want to hurt anybody. I never ever want to hurt anyone. Honestly if I find out that someone’s feelings have been hurt, I feel badly about it for the rest of my life. So that is never my intent. I want to be funny. Sometimes when you are funny people do get their feelings hurt, but I am going to try to avoid that.”
Did he practice an Emmy speech as a kid?
“No, I didn’t. I did not have any delusions of grandeur as a kid. I never imagined being on television. I just really wanted to have one in color. That was my goal.”
What is the best thing to happen to him this year?:
“Well the Emmy nomination was very exciting for us because as a staff we start to feel like the Bad News Bears. Not that we felt like we deserved an Emmy nomination, but we did feel like we deserved an Emmy nomination. Everybody was very excited. It’s fun to see staff. I have to say, I probably, I convinced myself it doesn’t matter and I have to say it was exciting to see how excited the staff was because it reminds you it’s there show too and they are invested in it as you are. So it was a fun day.”
On being the only late night who has not done stand up at some point in his career. (He didn’t realize he that he is the only one.):
“I came up through radio. I think it was good preparation for me. It definitely taught me what it was like to do a show everyday 5 days a week. It prepared me for the grind.”
Why talk shows fail.:
“The #1 reason talk shows fail is the host doesn’t know how much work they are. A lot of people go in with a lot of arrogance thinking they are going to be able to show up at 3 o’clock in the afternoon and chit chat with people and be funny every night. It’s not that easy. You really have to pour yourself into it to do it right, I think.”
If he were President, what would be the first thing he would do?:
“I would find out if there were UFOs…I’d go right into the Roswell files and then I would resign.”
I think the last answer gives you the best idea of what an awesome host he will be tonight, so tune in to The Emmys tonight on ABC and see what else he comes up with to honor television’s biggest night. And once you realize that is as funny as I have been saying for years, check out Jimmy Kimmel Live weeknights on ABC at 12m.
Today was the day that the Emmy nominations were announced and I think they basically suck. For the most part the Drama noms are as elitist as the Oscars. Although I am happy Kathy Bates was nominated for Harry’s Law even though NBC didn’t have faith in it. When it comes to the comedies, happy for Modern Family and Chuck Lorre’s Thursday night show. It was Jon Cryer’s best year on Two and a Half Men and Mayim Bialick is great on The Big Bang Theory. I am also extremely excited that not only is Jimmy Kimmel going to host TV’s biggest night, but that Jimmy Kimmel Live finally got a much deserved nomination.
I am not a TV snob, but the Emmy noms are. So if you want to see what else got nominated then click here!
Jimmy Kimmel Live has been ignored by the Emmys, but that is no longer the case because the late night host is going to host TV hottest night. This is not the first time he has hosted an awards show, but it is definitely his biggest. This honor continues to be a part of his big year, he also got to interview Oprah Winfrey for the first time, he will be hosting the White House Correspondents Dinner next month, a few viral videos being seen by millions and rating for the late night show are growing.
Some people don’t consider him part of the late night game, but you know what the other hosts should be watching out for him because he is making his mark. I know this is a weird thing to say, but I am so proud that he is getting this much deserved honor.
UPDATE: Jimmy Kimmel gave a great quote about what we can expect from him on TV’s big night, “I hope to be able to do for the Emmys this year what Eddie Murphy did for the Oscars.” Now I am even more excited about the Emmys. That is until they announce who is nomonated.
