The Wonder Years celebrates the Summer of ’69
June 14th, 2023 under ABC, Dulé Hill. [ Comments: none ]

The Wonder Years, one of last season’s best new shows, is finally back on ABC tonight at 9p. And the second season is just as darling, informative, and funny as the first.

The Williams are an African-American Alabaman family, who are stuck in the wholesomeness of the way the times were, but also wanting to experience the exciting changes that are happening all around them.

It is the Summer of ’69, and we are going to the moon. Woodstock is going to change the music scene forever. And Stonewall is going to finally open the closet and allow people to come out!

For the Williams, it means they will be in two different states. Not because there are problems in their marriage but because Dean (Dulé Hill) has the chance to write a song for Marvin Gaye. So he and his son, Dean (Elisha Williams), are in NYC, living the dream.

However, not everything is going as they planned. Big Dean is having writer’s block, and his son hasn’t made a single friend. But that is all going to change when they meet one of their neighbors. He is going to open them to a whole new world, and that is going to make their summer something to remember.

They are not the only ones having a memorable summer; so are his wife, Lillian (Saycon Sengbloh), and their daughter, Kim (Laura Kariuki). Lillian’s sister, Jackie (Phoebe Robinson), comes for a visit, and she takes them for a ride they will never forget.

Jackie is a free spirit, unlike her sister, and because of that, the kids love her. However, Lillian wants her to tame her ways. And she is going to do that in the second episode that airs at 9:30p.

Lillian takes Jackie and her family to church, and she quickly regrets it. But not as much as when she gets a sister a job at her company. Can the wild sister finally be tamed?

And she is not the only one being wild. Little Dean and Keisa (Milan Ray) are sneaking around because she is dating his friend. Who will Keisa choose?

A lot of things happened during the Summer of ’69, both directly and indirectly, to the Williams family. And I can’t wait to watch how the rest of the year plays out for them.

I grew up watching the original Wonder Years, and I loved it. But this one is even better. So I don’t understand why ABC didn’t just hold it for the Fall instead of being all reality. I think the show deserves better than it’s gotten.

So help it find a new audience because this show deserves to stick around. It has a cast that feels like a family and writing that draws you in and keeps you wanting more! We get to experience the era that took us out of the dark ages and ushered in a light we so desperately needed. The Wonder Years does this by telling stories of how one family who is stuck in the middle is going to live in a world that is trapped in the past and welcoming of the future at the same time. Give into the scary change, or stay where it is safe. That is for them to show us. And we are here to watch them experience it all.

BTWF: Dulé Hill for Corn Pops

Before Dulé Hill used his common sense in Psych, his sister was using hers to get his Corn Pops out of the locked car. How cute was the 18-year-old in that 1994 commercial?

Psych’s third movie is a charm!
November 18th, 2021 under Dulé Hill, Psych, Tears For Fears. [ Comments: none ]

Back in 2014, USA Network cancelled Psych, and they realized they made a huge mistake. So, they made it up to the fans by giving us two movies. However, they didn’t air the second film, so they gave it to their streaming service Peacock TV. That telemovie did so well that Peacock gave them a third one.

So, you are cordially invited to Gus’ (Dulé Hill) wedding to Selene (Jazmyn Simon), which starts to stream today. Well, that is if the wedding happens. You see, Shawn (James Roday) finds out that Selene’s name really isn’t that, and he tells Gus.

Now the two of them are on a search to find out who is baby mama really is before he walks down the aisle. What mayhem will they cause? What will they find out about her? Will it be enough for the Groomzilla to call off his wedding?

While they are doing that, Lassie (Timothy Olyphant) is still recovering from his stroke, and Henry (Corbin Bernsen) is helping him do that both physically and mentally. It is a good thing they have each other.

It is also a good thing that Jules (Maggie Lawson) has Karen (Kirsten Nelson) to help her out as they try to find Shawn and Gus.

And there is Curt Smith from Tears for Fears. All I will say is he deserves the Emmy because you will be head over heels for him.

You will also be head over heels for Psych: This Is Gus. Psych is one of the most underrated television shows in the history of TV because of his humor, wit, originality, and chemistry. I am still hoping that one day they will bring it back as a series. But for now, these specials are a good fix.

They give you a season’s worth of feels in two hours. How often can you say you get two hours worth of enjoyment? You don’t, but you do with Psych. So don’t be like USA Network and tell them to “suck it!” Be like Peacock and watch it! I don’t know what that means but watch it anyways.

Psych recreates This Is Us for This Is Gus
November 11th, 2021 under Dulé Hill, Psych, Timothy Omundson. [ Comments: none ]

Psych is getting its third telemovie on November 18th, and the cast had some fun for the promo poster for This Is Gus. They took away the G and copied a look made famous by the This Is Us cast.

I have never seen James Roday, Dulé Hill, Timothy Omundson. Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, Kirsten Nelson, and Jazmyn Simon look so serious and sad, and I like it. However, only in print because I love the zany characters that they play even more. I know I am not alone because USA and Peacock keep asking them to do more, and we keep watching.

ABC picks up The Wonder Years and Home Economics for a full season
October 26th, 2021 under ABC, Dulé Hill. [ Comments: none ]

ABC is loving The Wonder Years so much; they asked it to stick around for a full season. Is the news a surprise? Nope. I think it is better than the original mostly because Dulé Hill embodies everything his character should for that era.

What news does surprise me is that ABC also picked up Home Economics for an entire season. Not only is the sitcom terrible, its ratings match. I guess they have nothing waiting in the wings.

Not only for this season but the next one too. I think The Goldbergs and/or The Conners might be announcing their final seasons in a few months. Or at least they should because they are way past their expiration dates. Ever since the real Adam F. Goldberg left the show, it lost everything that made it so endearing.
