Salvation is back less focused on the meteor
June 25th, 2018 under CBS. [ Comments: none ]

I love disaster movies. Anytime that I hear a new one is out, I have to see it. Last season, when I heard that CBS was doing a series about a meteor plummeting towards the Earth, I knew I had to watch it. And I did.

I stayed with it, even after it seemed to be more about politics than about the end of the world. Well tonight at 9p, Salvation is back for its second season. If someone were to tune into the show without watching the first season, then they would have no idea that a meteor is about to destroy the world. They would think it is a show about some mysterious group who just launched a nuclear bomb at America in order to get what they want. They want the most brilliant minds to build something to protect them from the impending doom. But that is not really highlighted on the show.

I am not going into specifics about the season because, to be honest, I was bored and was barely paying attention. No offense to CBS, but for the last few years, they have tried to do Sci-Fi shows. And every year, they keep screwing them when they return for a second season. Under the Dome had one of the best first seasons, and then it just went to hell for the second and third seasons. Same for Extant, Zoo and now Salvation. Thus, I say to CBS, either make sure the show can do a successful second, third and so on seasons or make them a one season event.

As someone, who prefers Sci-Fi over procedurals, I really hope they stay out of this genre from now or at least until they can get it right. Because even Jennifer Finnigan cannot save Salvation.

Having said that, I probably will stick with the show. It will just be white noise like some of the shows I watch like Empire.

CBS pulls the plug on Code Black
May 24th, 2018 under CBS, Marcia Gay Harden, Rob Lowe. [ Comments: 1 ]

Michael Saltzman broke the sad news that his show Code Black will not be back next season on CBS. He wrote, “Dear #CodeBlack fans, the sad news came today that we were cancelled. It’s been a true joy to make this show and watch your response every week. Thank you for all of your passion. Truly, our best episodes have yet to air. We hope you’ll watch and enjoy them. We made them for you.”

I have seen the remaining episodes and he is not overexaggerating how good those episodes truly are. Will fans be upset with the, now, series finale? He addressed that and said, “We always suspected this would be the last season. We wrote it to end that way.” Again, having seen that episode, I think fans will be very satisfied with the ending.

I am sad to see this medical drama go because it was a different take than the other shows like it. Because of that, it was a fast-paced enjoyable hour of television. Plus, it had a really great cast that includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzman, Ben Hollingsworth and Rob Lowe. I wish CBS would have kept it around as a summer show, but at least we have the remaining episodes that air Wednesdays at 10p.

To be honest I don’t know what to make of CBS’s lineup. I think they should have had Murphy Brown on Mondays and made it revival Monday with Magnum PI. Like most people, I believe no mustache, no watch. It is interesting that Bull moved to Mondays, I thought it would go to Sundays. I still think they should do an all NCIS Tuesday, but that is me. I am curious how being on CBS is going to change Dick Wolf’s vision with FBI. The rest is the same, and that works for them. So why change it?

Man with a Plan, Life in Pieces, Elementary and Instinct all move to midseason. Something tells me the comedies will be back sooner rather than later.

Jermaine Fowler’s sweet message to the fans about Superior Donuts
May 14th, 2018 under CBS. [ Comments: none ]

On Saturday, CBS made the mistake of cancelling Superior Donuts, and today the show’s star and creator, Jermaine Fowler, posted a message to the fans.

Instead of being upset about the cancellation, he is grateful he was able to do the show for two seasons. He also wanted to thank us for watching. And most importantly, he wants us to continue having conversations like the ones that the show made us have.

That is what made this sitcom so great. They had a diverse cast and because of that, they were able to tackle issues from all points of views. It was not one-sided, but several different sides of the issues. I am going to miss that. But I won’t miss craving a donut every time I watched it. That was just cruel. But other than that, it was a great show that you missed out on.

Back to Fowler, he is turning 30 on Wednesday. Think about that. He got a show on the air by the time he was 28 years old. What were you doing at 28? I am sure this will not be the last time we hear from him. Hopefully, he will be part of another show soon. Maybe Jerrod Carmichael will hire him to join Rel as Lil Rel Howery’s friend? That will make that show a bigger powerhouse than it already is.

Those Criminal Minds at CBS are no longer eating Superior Donuts
May 12th, 2018 under CBS, Fox, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5_mNQKSuZ8
The morning started off nicely because Fox renewed Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, but then came CBS. They cancelled Superior Donuts, which was a good comedy that took on taboo topics, and showed both sides of those issues responsibly. They also pulled the plug on Scorpion, I think the season finale twist did them in. That and the ratings, but I will go with the former.

It wasn’t only bad news from the Eye, they are sticking with Criminal Minds, Man Without a Plan, Instinct and Life in Pieces. Who watches those shows?

NBC also revealed that they are doing an all-star version of America’s Got Talent for the winter. NBC also picked up Blacklist for a season 6.

Over at CBS, they are sticking with Elementary for another season. But they are not sticking with 9JKL, Kevin Can Wait, Living Biblically and Wisdom of the Crowd.
