Ryan Philippe, star of the upcoming Flags of Our Fathers, told IGN that rumors of his playing Harvey Dent, a.k.a. Two-Face, in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins sequel, Dark Knight, are not true. "Chris Nolan is great and I thought the first one was amazing," Philippe said during an interview for Flags. "But it is just a rumor at this point; I don’t know if they even have a script. But who knows at this point." Philippe also noted that he is amused by the preponderance of rumors surrounding his career, most of which are news to him. "It’s funny – I always wonder how things like that kind of start," Philippe said. "It’s interesting, [because] I’m working down in Austin right now shooting a movie and on the radio it will come on, ‘Ryan Philippe is playing this person.’ And I’m like, ‘Really? That’s the first I’ve heard.’"

Now that the role of Joker is unofficially in the hands of Heath Ledger, rumors are heating up regarding the other major baddie in Christopher Nolan’s Untitled Batman Begins Sequel. Harvey Dent, Gotham’s young assistant D.A. ultimately transforms into one of Batman’s greatest villains — Two Face. Word is Dent will not become Two Face until the third film, making it so whoever signs up for the role must do so for at least two films. So far, a ton of names have been mentioned: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Josh Lucas and Jake Gyllenhaal, to name a few. Personally, I think it would be hilarious if Gyllenhaal nabbed the role — Brokeback Batman, anyone? The latest name being circulated around the Bat-cave is that of Crash star and Mr. Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe. Ugh. Actually, make that a double ugh.

At least Katie Holmes won’t be in it?

Heath Ledger to play The Joker? |

A report on film website Latino Review, which was first to break the news that Brandon Routh would star in the latest Superman flick, says it has been informed by a "very trusted source" that the Australian heart-throb has been offered the role of The Joker in the sequel to Batman Begins. Ledger follows Robin Williams and Mark Hamill as actors rumoured to reprise the role that Jack Nicholson played in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman feature. But the idea of the 27-year-old playing The Joker has some movie critics scratching their heads."Ledger seems spectacularly unsuited to the weirdness of The Joker," writes Josh Tyler on the Cinema Blend website. "If you’re casting Ledger in a Batman movie, I’d start by considering him for Robin, not the caped crusader’s most lunatic villain.
Stuff
Warner Bros. has to be joking to cast him as The Joker.

Batman; The Musical by Jim Steinman? |

Holy Broadway, BATMAN! The Caped Crusader is set to be the subject of a new JIM STEINMAN stage musical. Composer Steinman, the man behind rock anthems by MEAT LOAF and BONNIE TYLER, among others, has been toying with the idea of creating BATMAN, THE MUSICAL for years – and now it looks as if his plan will be realised. The BAT OUT OF HELL hitmaker shelved the Batman musical idea, which he hoped to create with quirky film-maker TIM BURTON, two years ago (04) to allow both to concentrate on other projects. But now Steinman has put the venture high on his priority list after letting fans hear two news songs he has written for the musical. The first, NOT ALLOWED TO LOVE, is a dark duet penned for Batman and CATWOMAN, and the second WHERE DOES HE GET THOSE TOYS? – a tune for Batman villain THE JOKER and sung by Steinman himself – was debuted on Steinman’s website over the weekend (15/16JUL06). There are no official details as to when Steinman’s Batman musical will hit the stage, or if Burton is still attached to the project.
