A few months ago, Fox announced that Jamie Foxx and his daughter, Corinne, would be hosting the game show We Are Family.
Well, things changed, and the Foxxes are out. And the Andersons are in. Anthony Anderson and his Mama Doris will be hosting the family musical competition show.
“I jumped at the opportunity to host We Are Family and can’t wait for you to see all the celebrities, their relatives and the many surprises we have in store this season – and with my mama by my side, you never know what’s going to happen!” said Anderson.
So what is the show that Anthony jumped at the opportunity to host with his mom? We Are Family will feature a studio audience entirely comprised of 100 contestants playing through multiple rounds of clues and gameplay to win up to $150,000 each by correctly guessing which celebrity the performer is related to before they are revealed. Celebrities appearing on We Are Family will range from musicians and professional athletes to actors and beyond. Viewers will be encouraged to play along at home with their families to see if they can figure out the famous face behind the talented relative
We Are Family debuts on January 3rd. And I will be watching because Mama Doris did a good raising her son, and I will support everything they do! Plus, they are a lot warmer than the Oscar winner.
We know that Anthony Anderson can act and sing opera, but did you know that he is also a triple threat? He is, and you can see it in this video of him giving into the spirit and dancing to MC Hammer’s 2 Legit 2 Quit in Cape Town.
And now that we know he is a legit dancer, he can’t quit doing it. Someone needs to call him from Dancing with the Stars and book him on this upcoming season.
Before Anthony Anderson was front and center, he was in the background in Succes-N-Effect’s Blueprint music video. Even though the 20-year-old was not the star in that 1991 video.
We know that Anthony Anderson loves his sassy mother. So he is taking Mama Doris on a trip of a lifetime to thank her for all she has sacrificed to give him piano, opera, and acting lessons.
Since slides are so last century, they found a way to share their amazing trip with all of us. The Andersons called up E! and asked them if they wanted to capture their bonding time on the other side of the pond. And they said yes. So we are getting Trippin’ With Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris.
Their journey begins tonight at 10p, in London. It starts off tame enough, but it doesn’t last. The mom and son duo hop on a double-decker bus to get a tour of the city. While Anthony loves getting to know about the area, his mom is starting to fall asleep. So the actor hijacks the tour, and makes snooty London sound cool, like Compton, because that is where they are from! And London can use some of that.
After a long day, they get some rest. They will need it because they are going to walk the catwalk at African Fashion Week when they wake up. Because Mama Doris is going to be the Queen of the Runway.
And that is not the only thing she is Queen of. Did you know she turned down meeting President Barack Obama so that she could play Bingo with her friends? She did. Bingo is her game, so her son found a place in London where people play it.
Now that the last card has been won. It is time for Anthony to take his mom to the English countryside. So they travel to Kent, England, for episode 2.
What is on the agenda for them? They are going to get some etiquette lessons. Can you teach two Americans class? Let’s just say the woman has her work cut out for her. But don’t feel too bad for her. She asks them a question that shuts them up. It shut me up too, and I wasn’t even there.
After learning how to be proper, it is time for them to let their hair down and play some Skeet. The competitive family competes to see who can shoot more clay targets. The winner gets something they really want. Can you guess who wins?
Now that a winner is determined, it is time to go to a football game. Not our football, but theirs. That is where two men teach Mama Doris how to root for the home team. You know those etiquette lessons they got? Well, all of that training was thrown out of the window!
And that is the end of their time in England. Next week, they are off to Paris, the city of love. Just not that type of love for them.
And I love this show. Mostly because I just adore how much they love each other. It is nice to see a 51-year-old man who wants to spend time with his mama. And if she were my mom, I would want to spend as much time with her too.
As much as I enjoy watching their relationship, I also love seeing all the places they visited. They do touristy things, but they also take us to remote locations. So we get more than the tour bus tour! And who wants to see what everyone else can see?
But really, it is mostly about their loving relationship, where they spend the majority of their time picking on each other. Except on this show, the backdrop is just as fun as they are.
So where else are they going on their six-week excursion? They will be heading to France and Italy over the next six episodes, and Europe will never be the same just when they were getting back to normal after the Griswolds came to their continent in 1985.
The actor shows up to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and Bear picks him up in a helicopter. As soon as they take off, Bear throws their bags out of it. If that is bad enough, Bear then throws Anderson and himself out of the plane, and they are now on the search for their bags.
This was the first time I was nervous for Anderson. The second time is when Bear tells him he has to climb down a cliff. I don’t know about the black-ish star, but I am starting to poop my pants for him. Luckily, he gets his clean when they go into a lake to get to the other side of it. That is something he didn’t like because the water is freezing.
Guess what was on the other side of the water? Their bags! Now, it is time to set up their camp for the night. As soon as the hammocks are ready, it is time for supper. Not to eat it, but to catch it. Imagine what it is like when a boy from Compton goes fishing.
Finally, it is time for sleep! However, when Anderson wakes up, Bear is gone. Now, he has to go find him. Can he do it?
Spoiler alert: I ran into Anderson last week, and he told me this is a “really good episode.” He wasn’t lying.
Not only did we get to see how strong he is physically, but we also learned what makes him so mentally strong. His mother plays a big part in that, and she is not the only one. To find out who else inspires him, you need to tune in for a literal death-defying episode.
I have a new appreciation for him because he does things I would never ever do.
