Ryan Seacrest Tweeted this picture of Regis Philbin and him hanging out in Las Vegas before tonight’s Daytime Emmys. Looking at this picture of the two of them together, I think that Ryan is starting to look a lot like the Reeg or at least he could pass for his son. I wonder if the American Idol host is trying to copy his look so he can take over as Kelly Ripa’s co-host if Regis ever gives up his day job. After all it is one of the few positions he has yet to inherit, he already took over Casey Kasem’s America’s Top 40 and looks like he is set to take over Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve. What else is left for him to take over to dominate the American airwaves?
For those of us who still care about American Idol after last season, we are anxiously waiting to see who they will get to replace the irreplaceable Simon Cowell. So yesterday when Ryan Seacrest Tweeted, “Just got audition cities for @americanidol 10: Nashville, Milwaukee, New Orleans, E. Rutherford, Austin & S.F. Tmrw announcing a big change!”, I was hoping that maybe we would get the new judge(s) announcement. No such luck because Fox and American Idol announced that the “big change” is that they are lowering the audition age to 15. I don’t think the change is going to make any difference because as we have seen in years pasts the older contestants always do better than the younger ones because of maturity. That and as we are learning with Justin Bieber, their Baby voices are still changing.
So if you are between the ages of 15-28, here are the audition cities.
Nashville, TN on Saturday, July 17 at Bridgestone Arena
Milwaukee, WI on Wednesday, July 21 at Bradley Center
New Orleans, LA on Monday, July 26 at TBA
East Rutherford, NJ on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at IZOD Center
Austin, TX on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Frank Erwin Center
San Francisco, CA on Thursday, Aug. 19 at AT&T Park
So now that Idol has announced that they will start auditions on July 17th, do you think that they will announce who will be sitting at the judges table in 2011 by then?
It is not secret that American Idol’s ratings are down this year and now they want to know why. If you go to AmericanIdol.com, you can take the survey and let them know what you think about the show’s format, the contestants, the mentors, the host and the judges. They ask questions like, should they have stayed with three judge format? Do you like the judges and your opinions on them? Do you think Ellen DeGeneres was a good hire? Do you like the mentors? Would you like to see more of the contestants daily activities? And so on…
It took me about 10 minutes to take, and if you are like me and feeling the show less and less every season (and even more this season) then let them know. Especially because The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Fox has still not renewed the show. With the loss of Paula Abdul this season and Simon Cowell the next one, it is more important than ever to let them know how to fix the show so you will still watch without those two judges.
Two last notes, sadly two of the questions on the survey weren’t, would you like Brian Dunkleman to come back and co-host the show? My answer would be yes! And who would you like to replace Simon Cowell? My answer would be Harry Connick Jr because he shockingly really impressed me as a mentor! He was funny and gave good advice and I wasn’t really a fan of his until last week.
Star Magazine is reporting that Crystal Bowersox and her boyfriend Tony Kusian exchanged vows in Las Vegas while they were there with American Idol for Elvis Week two and half weeks ago. Even though the magazine makes it sound like they are married, they are NOT. According to Graceland Wedding Chapel the two just had a fun with their Elvis and did a joke commitment ceremony with him that included Elvis Presley references in their mock vows.
While she might not have tied the knot, the Graceland Wedding Chapel told me that new parents Michael Lynche and his wife Christa did renew their vows while they were there.
Tune into Fox tonight at 9p to find out if Crystal Bowersox and Michael Lynche will be performing again on American Idol next week or will they be spending a lot more time with their loved ones?
I love conspiracies, so here is my latest one. So it is looking like for the second week in a row Dancing with the Stars will beat American Idol in the ratings and Fox is justifiably nervous. The show also had its lowest performance night since its first season on Tuesday in the overnights and that is not a good thing because we still have several more weeks in the competition to go and Fox doesn’t want those numbers to decline any more. So what is the best way to get people to watch again after an extremely boring season with lame contestants, the loss of Paula Abdul who was replaced Ellen DeGeneres who is basically a dud and the upcoming departure of Simon Cowell who is the only reason to watch? Well you could get one of the most popular contestants, who is not being named as a possible winner, have him be eliminated and then have the judges save him so that there can be a double elimination the following week. So why is next week so important? Glee is back and they need to make sure after a four month hiatus the much hyped show can still do well in the ratings. After watching that episode I can tell you it is excellent, but is word of mouth enough to get people to watch? They really need those American Idol fans to stick around and watch, but if is no one is checking out AI will people change the channel mid-way through Lost or miss who is going home on The Biggest Loser to watch Glee return? I have to admit my DVR is set to record Glee, but no way I am missing Lost for Glee. Plus they really need to get the ratings up next week because I don’t think having Adam Lambert act as their mentor, who is so last season, will be as big of a draw as 19 Entertainment would like him to be.
Now back to Big Mike, although the judges love him and he had the great story of missing his daughter’s birth because of Hollywood week, I think he is quite boring and can see him being in the position that he was in last night. But there are a lot of other contestants I could see going before him and shocked that they are still there because I can’t even remember their names or that they still are on the show.
So basically my conspiracy theory is that they Big Mike was on the chopping block so that the judges would save him and we would have a double elimination next week to help the ratings for both American Idol and Glee. Or I could just be talking out of my a$$ and need to stop watching shows about conspiracy theories like Who killed JFK? Did a Kennedy kill Marilyn Monroe and Who killed Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman? OK well the last we know…
