Back in 1979, Gary Numan became an international sensation because of his song Cars. Now, 41 years later, he is still going together with cars. Well, at least in this photo anyway, and that is why I had to post it.
Now, let’s talk about how good the 62-year-old singer look. He hasn’t aged a day, just like his biggest single.
Back in 1980, we got to know Michael O’Keefe as the caddie in Caddyshack. Now, 40 years later, the most famous caddie in the world wants to be a caddie at this year’s US Open. Something he did in the early ’70s at the same course where the golf game is going to be held this year.
O’Keefe explains why he wants to do it in an essay he wrote for Golf.com. “Why now? If not now, I may never have another chance! I’m 65 and not getting any younger, though my wife tells me I’m still devilishly handsome.” Then he added, “I may be 65, but I act like I’m 30. Or, at least, I train like I’m 30, an age at which I was still acting out in demonstrably destructive ways.”

Cursive’s frontman Tim Kasher decided to buy a Cameo from John Ratzenberger and have him tell us what he thinks we can do. You know, because he played Cliff Calvin the mailman on Cheers, and his character loved to give his opinon whether we wanted it or not.
What is his idea? Why wait until Christmas to send gifts to your family. Go to the post office today, and send them stamps. It is the gift that keeps giving, and it is something they will use to send you a fruit cake they have been holding onto for 27 years. Voila
Back when I was in high school, our English teacher gave us a poem to read. We all thought it was about a man’s final moments on his death bed. Turns out, it was actually about him losing his virginity. Art’s interpretation is in the eye of the beholder.
Why am I telling you this? Back in 1986, a movie called Pretty In Pink came out. The film was inspired by the 1981 song of the same name. However, Richard Butler, the lead singer of The Psychedelic Furs, says that John Hughes mistook the meaning of the song.
In the coming of age of flick, it about Molly Ringwald being pretty in a pink dress. Butler told Sky News that it is not the pink he was talking about in the song.
“John Hughes – God rest his soul – kind of got the wrong end of the stick with that song.
“He made it to be literally about a girl that was wearing a pink dress and it wasn’t about that at all. It was about a rather unfortunate girl. Me saying pretty in pink meant somebody who is naked. It was a metaphor.”
Is Butler seeing red because the iconic filmmaker got it wrong? He told the interviewer, “…given that, the movie did us a lot of good. It was a double-edged sword because it increased our audience but a lot of people that were the darker set of our fans thought: ‘It’s a brat pack movie scene now and we are not really into that.'”
You can’t win them all.
If you think about it, Hughes’ mistake turned out to be a good thing for them. Who knows if they would still be touring (when bands can tour) today if it was not that misunderstanding of a birthday suit for a pink dress? Their original fans would have left them anyways, but that movie will be a coming of age movie for many decades to come. Therefore, that tune is giving them new fans all the time.
Now that you know the real meaning behind the song, listen to it again. You will hear how different it is than you remembered. It is like the red light in your head went on. Mind blown.
Back in the ’80s, if you were a teenager, then you were watching Head of the Class, a sitcom about gifted students who were all in the same high school class. The honor students made being smart in school look cool. Thus, you and your friends would debate after each episode if you were a Simone or a Darlene, or who was cuter Arvid or Alan? We also all wished our teacher was as awesome Mr. Moore. It is such a timeless sitcom that it still airs in syndication now.
Having said all of that, it makes sense that someone would want to reboot it for the new millennium. That person is Undateable, Spin City, CougarTown, and Scrubs’ creator Bill Lawrence, and he is bringing back the show to HBO Max, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As much as I love that Lawrence is the person doing the remake, I personally like it better when reboots include the original cast. Therefore, I reached out to two of the cast members to see what they thought of the news.
Khrystyne Haje, who played the sweet girl next door Simone, told me, “I absolutely loved the whole Head of the Class experience. The show brought me so much joy & opportunity. Our cast was kismet. I was inspired by their talent and got some of the deepest friendships in my life as a result.” Then she added, “I also love the message of Head of the Class. It still needs to be shared. I’m grateful that it’s a show the family can watch together. Everyone can learn & laugh together. That. Is. The. Best.” You can still see Haje’s long red curls in several commercials and she just finished a movie that is in post-production.
Dan Frischman, who was the lovable nerd Arvid, said he thinks that it is, “Great that the show will have a new life with new students.” He is so looking forward to it, that he is offering to direct an episode. The actor directed some episodes of Sam & Cat. When he is not directing television shows and live theater, he has been entertaining us with his fun magic acts on YouTube. Believe me, you will want to check them out because they are mesmerizing.
He is not the only one who went on to do stuff behind the scenes. Brian Robbins, the bad boy on the show, is now the President of Nickelodeon. Before he got the job he created All That and its spinoffs, and One Tree Hill. Dan Schneider, who was always getting in trouble, came up with iCarly and Victorious.
Some of the classmates are still working in front of the camera, Tony O’Dell guest-starred on Cobra Kai, and Robin Givens is a regular on Riverdale.
Not only was the show successful, but so was the cast. Which is why I think we should start a petition for them to appear on the reboot. Since they graduated in 1991, it is time for their 30th reunion, which can be held, at Millard Fillmore High School in Manhattan. Take a look at the recent photo of them, and tell me they are not camera ready.
