BTWF: Aretha Franklin in Room 222
August 13th, 2018 under Aretha Franklin, Before They Were Famous, MeTV. [ Comments: none ]

Before Aretha Franklin got The Blues Brothers to Think, she was getting the teachers and a student of Room 222 to do it. Aren’t you just in awe of the then 29-year-old’s vocals in that 1972 episode?

While I know she was already an established singer at this point, this is her scripted role and the only she ever did for television. MeTV has a little more information about her appearance on a very busy night of musical television.

BTWF: Robert Redford on Maverick

Before Robert Redford was winning fights in the Old West with Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, he lost one on Maverick. How cute was the 23-year-old’s face before it got smashed in in that 1960 episode?

A rotary phone race between three generations
July 18th, 2018 under MeTV. [ Comments: none ]

Before there were cell phones and push-button phones, there were rotary phones. For you babies out there, they royally sucked. You would have to put your finger through the hole of the number you wanted to dial, then drag that number until the end and repeat until you dialed the whole phone number. Screwed up one digit, and you would have to start all over again. Like I said, it royally sucked. I hated using it at my grandmother’s house.

Anyways MeTV, decided to have some fun and challenge a group of people from three different generations to battle it in a dialing race? Who will win: the Baby Boomers, the Gen Xers or the Millennials? The one time, the old guys in the room are the winners.

Even though I love all of the old programs on MeTV, I think they need to create a game show of Retro Races. How awesome would that be? They can have people compete to see they can fast they can cue up a song on the record player, set up a TV show to record on your VCR and so on. It would be totally groovy.

Want to own Jackie Gleason’s Mothership?
July 5th, 2018 under MeTV, Old Hollywood. [ Comments: none ]

Jackie Gleason was such huge success, thanks to The Honeymooners, that he was able to make whatever type of house he wanted. That is exactly what he did in Westchester, NY when he asked an architect to build him a house in the shape of a UFO back in 1959. Since rich people like to name their houses, he called his The Mothership.

The Mothership is up for sale according to MeTV and you can own the roundhouse for $12,000,000. Zillow says the 8-acre property has 3 buildings, 5 bedrooms, 4 full and 2 half bathrooms, 2 bars, 2 pools and a cardroom. How sweet it is!

I just wish I had the money to buy it because it seems like a dream house in a dream locale.

BTWF: Sylvester Stallone on Police Story
May 7th, 2018 under Before They Were Famous, MeTV, Sylvester Stallone. [ Comments: none ]

Before we got to know Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, he played a cop named Rocky on Police Story. He looks the same now as he did when he was 29 in that 1975 episode.
