BTWF: Joel McHale on Diagnosis Murder
February 16th, 2023 under Before They Were Famous, Dick Van Dyke, Joel McHale. [ Comments: none ]

Before Joel McHale was solving murders in The Happytime Murders, he was murdered on Diagnosis Murder. He looks the same now as he did when he was 28 in that 2000 episode.

Animal Control will have you laughing like a hyena
February 16th, 2023 under Fox, Joel McHale. [ Comments: none ]

Fox picked up Animal Control to series without asking them to shoot a pilot first, and there is a good reason why. The show is the funniest new sitcom of the year.

Tonight at 9p, you will meet Frank Shaw (Joel McHale), a grumpy animal control officer. He is a lone wolf who doesn’t like to work with anyone. But he has to. So he is given a new partner.

Shred (Michael Rowland) is a former champion snowboarder who decided to transition to animal control after injuring his knee. He is a ray of sunshine to Frank’s dark cloud, and his partner hates that, so he will torture him.

And during his first week, Shred screws up when he goes into a house to deal with a weasel on his own. What can go wrong? The weasel runs into the fireplace and comes out on fire. Therefore, the animal sets the living room on fire. On a positive note, at least he escaped when Frank entered the house.

There is another set of partners at the office. Amit (Ravi Patel) is a nice guy who is exhausted from being a dad to kids and animals. He works with Victoria (Grace Palmer), who is more like one of the boys than the boys. Amit and Victoria’s lives are complete opposites which is why they work so well together.

And then there is Emily (Vella Lovell). She is their boss. She is overly nice and fights so hard for her team. That is why they take advantage of her and get her to do what they want.

Together they make a great team who can take on any animal that comes their way, and there aren’t a lot of cats and dogs—something my cat did not like about the show.

Let’s get back to the animals. In the first three episodes, they take on hungry ostriches, bunnies on hallucinogenic mushrooms, and a kangaroo that can kick ass, or should I say nuts? And I can’t wait to see what other animals they have to bring back to base as the season goes on.

And as the season goes on, you will see this work family take care of each other. Shred will keep chipping away at Frank’s ice-cold exterior while Frank rains on his parade. Victoria will get Amit to loosen up, and he will make her more domesticated. And Emily will try to keep them all from getting fired for various reasons because her animal control is more like Animal House.

The show has a lot of heart, chemistry, laughs, and animals! Who doesn’t love animals? Probably the cast after having to work them. But since we don’t, we get to sit back and enjoy the show that is as warm and fuzzy as a bear in a hot tub.

You can watch Animal Control on Fox Thursdays at 9p or stream it on Hulu the day after it airs.

Bruce Willis’ family gives an update on his condition
February 16th, 2023 under Bruce Willis, Demi Moore. [ Comments: none ]

Last year, Bruce Willis’ family announced that he was retiring from acting because he is suffering from aphasia. Today, they gave an update on his diagnosis.

As a family, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for the outpouring of love and compassion for Bruce over the past ten months. Your generosity of spirit has been overwhelming, and we are tremendously grateful for it. For your kindness, and because we know you love Bruce as much as we do, we wanted to give you an update.

Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.

FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know. Today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the years ahead. As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research.

My heart goes to his wife, Emma Hemming, their daughters, Evelyn and Mable Ray, his ex-wife Demi Moore and their daughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah. I lost my father to dementia and Parkinson’s. It is incredibly difficult to watch them decline and know there is nothing you can do to help them.

I hope that Willis is able to enjoy Rumer’s baby, who will be his first grandchild because babies are great medicine.

Who knew the story behind Tetris was so interesting?
February 16th, 2023 under Apple TV+. [ Comments: none ]

We have all played Tetris and found ourselves addicted to the game. But did you know the story behind how it became a global juggernaut is more interesting than the game itself? Because of that, Apple is turning the tale into a movie.

Tetris tells the unbelievable story of how one of the world’s most popular video games found its way to avid players around the globe. Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton) discovers Tetris in 1988, and then risks everything by traveling to the Soviet Union, where he joins forces with inventor Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to bring the game to the masses. Based on a true story, Tetris is a Cold War–era thriller on steroids, with double-crossing villains, unlikely heroes, and a nail-biting race to the finish.

We know how it ends, and I can’t wait to see how it began when it starts streaming on Apple TV+ on March 31st.

BTS has a Dynamite Lego set
February 16th, 2023 under BTS, Lego. [ Comments: none ]

Seinfeld and Friends have been immortalized in Lego, and now BTS is joining them with a set based on their Dynamite music video.

This is excellent news for all of the BTS Army. While the boys are in the Korean military, they can play with their seven Lego figures and pretend the band is still together.

The 749-piece set includes a Disco, record store, donut shop, ice cream truck, basketball hoop, and palm trees.

So if this is something you must have, you can order it for $99 starting on March 1st.
