Remember when we thought that the Golden Globes were dead because their members are almost all white males? Well, it is back on NBC on January 10th, and they wanted a host that will make us think they believe in equality. So they asked Jerrod Carmichael to do it.
The comedian is brilliant enough to do it. But he might be too smart for the awards show’s audience. And I am also talking about the ones who will be there physically.
“We’re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards. His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live,” said Helen Hoehne, President of the HFPA. “Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.”
I hope he kicks things off by kicking the Hollywood Foreign Press in the balls during his monologue. He has the potential to make Ricky Gervais look tame. But will he be brave enough to go there? I hope he does.
And I hope that Brendan Fraser is off limits because the actor does not want to be associated with them. Rightfully so.
Back to Carmichael, I am happy for him because it is a big deal to be asked to host something of this magnitude. Maybe NBC will realize they made a mistake cancelling The Carmichael Show and bring it back for another season. It is not like Tiffany Haddish and Lil’ Rey have done anything since then.
If you have never seen his sitcom, you need to check it out on Hulu. It is one of the best shows of this century.
Sally Field starred in two of the biggest sitcoms in the ’60s, went on to win two Oscars, hasn’t stopped acting in memorable projects, and always has our hearts because she is so gosh darn lovable.
However, reporters are still obsessed with the love affair she had with Burt Reynolds over 40 years ago, and she wishes it would stop.
Case in point. Yahoo Entertainment was doing a career retrospective on her, and the reporter asked her what it was like to meet the man she declared her worst on-screen kiss when they did Smokey and the Bandit together. She sighed and said, “Let’s see what I can say about that. Yes, of course, it was. Everybody knows that. You know that. Everybody has had me talking about it ad nauseam. Yes. Yes. It was. It absolutely was. It’s there on the screen.”
So, now can we stop asking the actress about the late actor and focus on her and her incredible career? Unless she wants to tell us, Reynolds had a small dick and was awful in bed. Then, I am down for that question. But after that, we can move on.
It is December, and we just learned what is the first broadcast scripted show that won’t be back for another season on Fox. That title goes to Monarch.
Never heard of it? It was a Country Music Soap Opera that starred Trace Adkins and Susan Sarandon. Well, they lied about the latter because they killed her off in the first episode. Not that that was a bad thing. But they kept pushing that she was starring in the series.
When it comes to the show, I tried watching it, but after three episodes, I stopped. I just couldn’t do it anymore, and I have low standards. Since it is all about me, that is why it won’t be back. Not that it did terribly in the ratings.
Fans loved Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot in the title role. However, the same could not be said for the sequel Wonder Woman: 1984.
Therefore, today’s news from The Hollywood Reporter should come as no surprise. James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new heads of DC Studios, have passed on Patty Jenkins’ treatment for a third film.
The trade also added that it is still uncertain if Gadot will still be doing cameos in future DC Universe movies. But, the actress might’ve answered that question yesterday by posting a photo as Diana Prince and writing, “A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you🙅🏻♀️🙌🏼💃🏻♥️”
Gunn and Safran are still trying to figure out the direction they are going to take the studio, but as of now, it does not seem to include solo movies for their two female superheroes, Wonder Woman and Batgirl. And as a woman, I think that sucks more than Batman vs Superman.
