The Serpent Queen is wickedly good!
September 11th, 2022 under Starz!. [ Comments: none ]

As England mourns Queen Elizabeth II, Starz is giving us The Serpent Queen tonight.

The Serpent Queen is the story of the French Queen Catherine de’ Medici (Samantha Morton and Liv Hill). Medici was born in Italy to wealthy parents who left her an orphan at a very young age. She did not have an easy upbringing, but that didn’t stop the King of Italy from marrying her off to Prince Henry of France.

The Prince was already in love with her distant cousin, and he was not interested in having sex with her. Therefore, she was not able to give him an heir. The longer it takes her to get pregnant, the better the chances she will be discarded.

However, the King of France fancied her brain, so he kept her around. Now, she will do anything and hurt anyone to become the Queen and give her husband, his future King.

How far will she go? Further than the other evil Queens whose stories we have learned.

While Catherine de’ Medici’s reign was ugly, Starz’s telling of it is beautiful. So sit back and watch a real-life Royal story that does not have a happy ending. And I prefer this to the fairy tales we grew up with.

My only negative is that they got English actors to play the roles of French and Italians.

Lea Michele’s not funny reason for cancelling on Funny Girl
September 11th, 2022 under Coronavirus, Lea Michele. [ Comments: none ]

On Tuesday night, Lea Michele began her first appearance as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl on Broadway. And yesterday, she announced that she was cancelling her first show of many.

UNFORTUNATELY. I HAVE OFFICIALLY
TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID. IN FOLLOWING PRODUCTION PROTOCOLI CANNOT RETURN TO THE THEATER FOR 10 DAYS.

THANKFULLY STAYING HOME TODAY AND CATCHING THIS EARLY PROTECTED SO MANY MEMBERS OF OUR COMPANY FROM BEING EXPOSED.

FUNNY GIRL HAS BEEN AND STILL IS TACKLING A TREMENDOUS WAVE OF COVID WITH CLOSE TO A DOZEN COMPANY

MEMBERS CURRENTLY OUT. WE ARE ALMOST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS AND OUR SWINGS AND UNDERSTUDIES ARE DOING SUCH AN INCREDIBLE JOB TO KEEP OUR SHOW ON ITS FEET.

THIS WEEK HAS BEEN A DREAM COME TRUE AND I CANNOT WAIT TO GET BACK – YOU BETTER GET READY. SEE YOU SOON.

According to the show’s social media, the extraordinary understudy “Julie Benko will be performing the role of Fanny Brice for all performances through Sunday, September 18th.”

Personally, I wish they would just Benko the role. She has earned it, and the audience loves her.

Disenchanted looks enchanting
September 10th, 2022 under Amy Adams, Disney, Patrick Dempsey. [ Comments: none ]

Did Enchanted need a sequel? Nope. But we are getting one this Thanksgiving with Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey reprising their roles.

Is that a bad thing? By the looks of the trailer, far from it. It is the type of me that can be enjoyed by the whole family. And we need more of those. Because if you saw the stuff my nieces force me to watch, you too would be looking forward to something as darling as this film, especially since I am going to have to watch it over and over and over and over again.

The live action Little Mermaid looks beautiful
September 10th, 2022 under Disney+. [ Comments: none ]

Dinsey shared the first video from the live-action version of The Little Mermaid at the D23 yesterday. And this is what CGI was made for. It was made to make animated productions come to life with vibrant colors.

Plus, Halle Bailey sounds like the heavens opening up, which for her, our world is the heavens. And that is why she wants to be part of it.

Normally, I hate live-action versions, but this one I will want to go see in May.
