Do you think Carrie Underwood looks any different?
April 15th, 2018 under Carrie Underwood. [ Comments: none ]

Back in November, Carrie Underwood fell down her front stairs and received dozens of stitches on her face. So many, that in January, she said that she might look different.

Tonight, five months after her accident, she performed for the first time at the ACMs. We got to see if her face looks any different. It does not. Even if she did we would still love her.

Timeless changes up time traveling tonight
April 15th, 2018 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

Ever since I saw HG Wells’ The Time Machine as a kid, I have been obsessed with movies and TV shows that deal with time travel. I have seen them try to change it up, and most add a little something here and there. Tonight at 10p on NBC, Timeless does something I have never seen before.

Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) travel back to 1934 to save a teenage John F Kennedy from Rittenhouse. In the process of saving the future president, they are being chased and have to do the unimaginable. They bring JFK to our time.

Since the teen was passed out, they think they can get away with not telling him what year it is. It appears like they get away with it, but he is smarter than they think. He escapes the bunker and goes into modern day. He runs to a convenience store for safety and meets some other teens who take them with him. Those kids don’t know who he is. If they did would, would they even believe him?

Wyatt, Lucy (Abigail Spencer) and Jessica (Tonya Glanz) set out to find him. They need to do it before Rittenhouse kills him and before he learns he destiny.

As we know from other time travel shows, you cannot change anything in the past because it will change the future. Therefore, you cannot change past in the future by telling someone from the past what is going to happen. Or can you? What if you could would you tell one of the best presidents of America, what is going to happen him. Would you tell him how and when he is going to die so you could prevent it from happening? It is a conundrum they will face.

JFK has been featured in several time traveling movies and shows. Quantum Leap sent Sam back to save him, but that was not his mission. He was there to save someone else. There was a Twilight Zone episode whereby saving Kennedy someone else dies in his place and WW III begins. Then there was Timequest that actually saved him with no consequences. These are just three of the many examples because we all want to know what the world would be like if he lived. Personally, I think Bobby Kennedy would be the better brother to save, but that is me.

Back to tonight’s episode, that is why I am so impressed that Timeless takes on something that has been done time and time again, and finds a way to do something new with the storyline. Something that makes sense and works. Timeless is doing some groundbreaking work in this genre this season and I wish people would watch what they are doing. For the love all of things time travel tune in tonight and every Sunday at 10p on NBC and watch Timeless.

Those Fockers, Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller were on Saturday Night Live!
April 15th, 2018 under Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Saturday Night Live. [ Comments: none ]

This is what I am picturing. Earlier in the week, after Michael Cohen’s office was raided, someone in SNL’s writer’s room suggested that they get Robert De Niro to play Robert Mueller. Since the Oscar winner is no fan of Donald Trump, I am pretty sure he jumped at the offer.

Sometime after that, someone suggested that they get Ben Stiller to play the disgraced lawyer. They did not only ask because Stiller looks like him, but also because they can recreate that lie detector scene from Meet the Parents.

That is exactly what they did on Saturday Night Live yesterday, and I hope both men are on speed dial to reprise their roles in the future. I cannot wait for the day when Alec Baldwin and De Niro, play Donald Trump and Mueller in a cold open. Partially because it will be funny, but mostly because the investigation is nearing the end and our national nightmare will soon be over. Although, President Mike Pence is a pretty terrifying concept too.

Be prepared to ugly cry with Jane the Virgin tonight
April 13th, 2018 under Jane the Virgin. [ Comments: none ]

Tonight at 9p on The CW, Jane the Virgin delivers its most gut-wrenching episode so far. In fact, just thinking about it makes me tear up.

Now that Xo has healed from the surgery she got to remove her breast, it is time for her to go to chemotherapy to get rid of any of the breast cancer that might be left in her body. She tells her family that she is going to use cold caps (I never heard of these before this episode), which will lessen her chances of losing her hair. She knows it will be painful, but she is strong. Rogelio (Jaime Camil) is such a supportive husband that he will do whatever she wants even though he does not want to see her suffer.

When she gets to chemo, she immediately makes a friend. For the first time since she was diagnosed, Xo (Andrea Navedo) has someone to talk to that understands what she is going through. She and Donna (Amy Brenneman) do not let the struggles of cancer get them down and help each other get stronger and healthier.

Talking about strong, when Alba (Ivonne Coll) strong arms Mateo, Rafael (Justin Baldoni) lets her have it. The two of them get into such a fight, that it looks like they will never talk to each other again. Causing Jane (Gina Rodriguez) to be in the middle. Can she work her magic to get her Abuela and her boyfriend/baby daddy back together?

When it comes to together, it looks like the case against Petra (Yael Grobglas) is almost over. JR (Rosario Dawson) can see the finish line, even though Petra’s mom (Priscilla Barnes) has come forward with testimony against her daughter. Will the charges finally be dropped, so that Petra and JR can move on with their lives?

As they prepare to move on with their lives, Rogelio is trying to move his telenovela forward into production. His co-star River Fields (Brooke Shields), is a Greengo and does not understand how Spanish soap operas work, and she wants to Americanize it. In other words, take everything out that makes it so good. Rogelio tries to fight her, but everyone keeps listening to her because she is the bigger star in America. Will he be able to save his show and his wife?

I cannot praise this show enough. What they have been doing with the breast cancer storyline is more than awards-worthy (and yes Navedo and Camil deserve awards for their acting because each week they have been hitting it out of the park), it is also educational. Not only are they being very responsible with how they are handling such a sensitive subject, they are also showing us how each family member is handling it differently. Most shows just focus on the person going through it, but they show us how a mom handles it differently than a daughter who will handle it differently than her dad. It is about being strong around the person when all you want to do is break down and cry. Which is what I am doing right now. That is how good this show has been recently, just thinking about it is making me cry again.

Therefore, watch it tonight at 9p on The CW, so I am not crying alone. Thank you Jennie Snyder Urman for this show and this storyline. I will send you a bill for the tissues!

Happy Friday the 13th!
April 13th, 2018 under SOW Greetings. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDPPmv9q-g0

I know Friday the 13th is supposed to be bad luck, but those movies always brought me joy. I love cheesy horror films with crazy deaths, and this series knew how to do it right.

Instead of my normal mashup of all of the death from the franchise, I decided to post my two favorites. They have one thing in common, decapitations. I know I lost my head laughing during these scenes and I hope you do too.

On this special day, put your hockey masks and party like it is Friday the 13…which it is.
