The Boogeyman is back tonight to haunt our nightmares!
August 11th, 2012 under Syfy. [ Comments: none ]

Think you just got over all of those nightmares that you had as a kid that were caused by the Boogeyman, well he is back on Syfy tonight at 9p to do it all over again. Eddie McClintock stars in this Syfy horror movie that will leave you horrified for the rest of your lives.
When a group of kids accidentally set the Boogeyman free from his keeper, he is out to find a new one. But before he does, he will go on a killing spree that is of Biblical proportions. You see this Boogeyman is from a very long long long time ago because he is Cain. Yes, the Cain from Genesis who murdered his brother Abel and now he wants a new brother/keeper. It was that twist that got McClintock to sign on for this spooky movie. He discussed this plot point on a conference call earlier in the week, “anytime you throw in biblical characters into a horror story it always seems to make it more real and a little more frightening because we’re taught to be so afraid of G-d and all that stuff.” So when this urban legends comes alive with that past, you will be so scared that you will want someone to sleep with you for the rest of your life or a really long time. Especially since this movie recreates a lot of his scariest tales.
As scary as this movie is, McClintock adds his unique humor to break the tension. The Warehouse 13 star plays Michael Samuels, the town Sheriff who is also the single dad of two boys. One of those boys has been chosen to be the new Abel and now Samuels will do anything to stop that from happening. Will he be able to do it or will he lose his youngest son to The Boogeyman forever? You have to tune in to find out in one of the scariest movies that I have seen in a really long time.
And did I mention that Jeffrey Lando, the director created the most frightening looking and ugliest Boogeyman you will ever see? I still can’t close my eyes without seeing his fugly face.

The Political Animals season finale is one of the finest hours of television ever!
August 10th, 2012 under USA Network. [ Comments: none ]

The season finale of USA’s limited run series Political Animals doesn’t air until August 19th, but I will tell you now it is honestly one of the most amazing hours of television I have ever seen. I am not going to spoil an episode that is over a week away, but I am going to start telling you now to watch it.
It is my job to watch a lot of television and I have to admit as time goes on, I find myself not giving any show my full attention. Well today when I got the email that the final two episodes of Political Animals was available online, I immediately cued it up on my computer. The first episode which airs on Sunday, I watched like a lot of the other preview shows I get. But then when it came time for the season finale, something happens that I stopped what I was doing and made the video full screen to give the show my full attention. The show had my complete attention for the remainder of the episode. This is something that has never happened to me before. I always find a way to be distracted, but there was no way I was going to let that happen this time. I sat in awe watching this episode because the writing and the acting of their words is so brilliant that you feel like you are watching a real life news story play out. Forget Newsroom, the News Networks can learn from Greg Berlanti what makes excellent television. What keeps people watching and not flipping the channels. The cast and crew of Political Animals make politics engaging again and since we are months electing a President, this is what America needs.
So this Sunday at 9p, sit down with your family and friends and watch the second to the last episode of the season with them. And tell everyone you know to do the same. And after you and them watch a quality hour of television, tell even more people to watch the season finale. We need excellence on TV and we need more people to watch this excellent show. We need more shows like this, so please watch so that USA will make this limited run show, not be so limited!
Now I return you to your regular scheduled reading on my blog.

Eddie McClintock talks about his Boogeyman and the Syfy movie too!
August 10th, 2012 under Syfy. [ Comments: none ]

Tomorrow night at 9p on Syfy the Boogeyman is back and Eddie McClintock has to try to stop the creature that scared us all when we were little kids.
So when he was a little kid, was he afraid of the Boogeyman? He told me on a conference call what scared him when he was younger, “Well, you know, I grew up on, you know, I Was a Teenage Werewolf and Wolfman and, you know, (Chainey) and Lugosi and, you know, all the Universal horror films. So when I asked my parents if I could go see the original Friday the 13th on an Easter Sunday, I think I was in seventh grade and I went to a matinee – I don’t know how I was ever allowed into the film because I was just a little kid and I went with my best buddy. And I remember walking home we had to walk through – because I’m from Ohio so we had to walk through a field and I just thought what could be underneath – because there was like a chest high grass. And I just started thinking what is under – what if something jumps out at me. And that kind of carried over. I had bunk beds in my room and my room was at the top of the stairs. And I ended up sleeping in my parents’ room for three weeks. That movie scared me so badly my dad went to see it on his own so that he could see what it was that scared me. That I would say, the original Friday the 13th, Jason or his mother, she scared me. Because then I was like what, the guy’s mom, it’s not a monster, it’s a person and she’s talking to the moon? That scared me. So I guess that was my Boogeyman.”
He also talked about movies that he grew up with as a kid, “On Friday nights when I was growing up in Cleveland there was a show called Big Chuck and (Hoolihan) and they would show creature features on Friday nights. And it’s some of the best memories that I have of growing up is staying up late with my dad and, you know, watching these movies. So when I had an opportunity to do that on the Syfy Network I really just jumped at it. I just – I wanted to be able to again maybe possibly give some little kid who loves scary movies a chance to have a good time with his family, his brothers or his dad or whoever.” Even though as a kid he grew up seeing horror movies on Fridays, he explained how Boogeyman differs from the other Syfy movies that air on Saturday night, “So, you know, I love – even though I love movies about half men, half mosquitoes or off the cuff just happen to also be part ferret, I wanted to – if I was going to do one of these movies I wanted it to be more of a straight up like horror than, you know, and I just thought Boogeyman, you know, this is more of a straight up and down horror film like what I’m used to growing up with before they started, you know, animals. And so for me it’s more of a downstream horror film than normally what you’ll let’s say have been given on the network previous to this. You know, also I wanted to make sure that people knew we weren’t taking ourselves too seriously which seems to be a running through line for most jobs I do.” There was one person who meant serious business in this movie and that is the Boogeyman who’s the scariest one I have ever seen in any movie that has portrayed him.
Now it wouldn’t be an Eddie McClintock feature, if it didn’t have a touch of his sense of humor. He explained how his comedic brilliance was worked into to the terrifying movie, “You know, when I arrived in Bulgaria Jeffery Lando our director said to me, he goes, well Syfy basically said, you know, if you want to change things and make things funnier or do whatever you want to do you’ve got permission, you know, as long as we see eye to eye. And fortunately he and I got along great and so there were chances for me to kind of in my own not as funny, not as talented way to be able to give a shout out to Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi. And hopefully people will see that there are actual scares and bumps to this and then you might even get a few chuckles, you know. The boys who play my sons are good together and Amy Bailey who plays my partner is great. I think we did an honorable job.” When you watch this movie you will totally agree that they did do a very honorable job.
So how much of his character in the Boogeyman differ from the character we see him play every Monday at 9p on Syfy in Warehouse 13, he said “Well, you know, Officer Samuels doesn’t have like a sixth sense, a vibe like Pete does. He’s more serious than Pete. He’s a single father, his wife was killed in an automobile accident, we kind of find that out. And, you know, he’s struggling to deal with that and struggling to deal with being a single dad of two ornery sons.”
Now I couldn’t let him get off the conference call without finding out what is coming up on Warehouse 13, so here’s his preview “Pete makes some fart jokes, he acts like a fool, he saves the world. Artie grumbles, Claudia snarks, and Jo Ann (Myka) OCDs.” In his defense the show and the movie’s publicist (yes they are one in the same) was on the call too and wouldn’t let him spill any beans.
So here is what I will spoil for you about Boogeyman, make sure all the lights in your house are working because after you watch the Boogeyman on Syfy tomorrow at 9p you will not want any room to be dark for at least a few days, I mean nights!

Dallas will be back on TNT in January with Rebecca…Barnes!
August 10th, 2012 under TNT/TBS/TCM. [ Comments: 1 ]

Wednesday’s season finale of Dallas was full of a lot of jaw dropping moments, but the biggest one was when it was revealed that Rebecca Ewing is actually a Barnes. That’s right Christopher’s wife is his cousin and Cliff Barnes’ daughter. The day after the episode I was on a conference call with Julie Gonzalo and she answered our questions about her shocking lineage.
How long did the actress know she was Barnes? She said, “I knew before we shot the pilot. I remember getting the part and when we – after we all met and after reading the script and before we even took off to go to Dallas to shoot the pilot Mike and Cynthia let me in on the secret that I was a Barnes but that was it. That was all they told me. They were like you’re Cliff’s daughter but don’t play it and don’t tell anyone. So that was what I got. But that was it.” So did she tell any of her cast members or did she keep it a secret from us like TNT did? Shhh don’t tell, she revealed who she told her secret too, “I did spill the beans to Jordana because I was like I have to tell someone.” She then added what it was like keeping the secret from her cast, “But yes, no it was interesting. There were moments that like oh where’s this going, where’s this character going, where’s that going and I’m like I know where I’m going, I just don’t know how. But we never really talked it about. I think we were so invested in every script, we were so into like oh did you read it, did you read it last night, did you get it last night? I was like I got it at three in the morning but I still read it. We we’re so on the day.” Then she said how they reacted when they read the finale, “And myself Julie as a person lives day by day and moment by moment, like I don’t really get ahead of myself too much so to me it wasn’t about like we needed to keep it a secret like that because there was so much stuff going on in each script that I don’t even have. I think the impact will be when everybody reads it and it was and it was nice. It was really interesting to see it.”
So now that we know she is Cliff Barnes’ daughter and his sister Pamela was married to Bobby Ewing when they adopted Christopher that means she was married to her first cousin. How does Julie feel about that? She told us “Yes the reality of it all is that I am married to my first cousin, sure not related by blood but it is kind of weird. It’s interesting. It’s interesting to come from to know the reality of this role and I don’t know where it’s going and that’s to be completely honest with you. The idea that she is married to her cousin I don’t know. I think she is in love with him. She really is in love with him, she fell for him. She fell for her mark as we like to call it.” The she added more about the Barnes/Ewing rivalry that has been going on for decades, “And it’s great that Ken character Cliff had a line in the finale last night saying I can never trust you, you’re just like your aunt. I couldn’t trust her around the Ewings. I think there is. I think there’s like this superior energy that attracted the Ewings and the Barnes for evil and good and you see that in the original with Patrick and with Bobby and Pam and you see it in the Cliff and J. R. feuds and there is an attraction whether it’s positive or negative. So I do believe that Rebecca does have feelings for Chris, she did fall in love with him. But now I think the tables have been turned, the cat’s out of the bag and she might be a bit pissed. So I don’t know what the future holds, I really don’t. I wish I did but I can only be blessed that the writers are so talented and they’re so willing to write such beautiful storylines for myself and the rest of the cast. So I’m leaving it to their hands.”
Does she think Rebecca will get back with Christopher who dumped her when he found out that she lied about having a brother (he still doesn’t know they are cousins)? Her feelings on that are, “I don’t know. I don’t know. I think at this point she knows that things are pretty bad with Christopher especially that last scene that they both had. I think that there might not be a way out. I don’t want to say that she’s fully going into the dark side. I don’t know if she’s fully going to go evil. I don’t believe in villains. I believe that they’re all coming from a place that truth. Whether you want to take that as good or bad that’s your prerogative I guess. But I don’t know. I think she always saw it coming. I think that, you know, Elena has always been something very, very dear and special to Chris and she’s not stupid. Rebecca’s not a stupid girl. She’s a very, very smart girl. She’s a very calculating girl. You can tell that she’s going to be now. She can be very manipulative. In a way she fooled everyone. She fools Tommy, she fools Chris, she fools the audience, she fooled a lot of people so you can’t underestimate this girl. I just don’t think she’s going to be way too happy about it. But I wouldn’t want to be on the bad side of her.”
We will find out if we see her bad side when the show comes back to TNT in January? Is it 2013 yet because I can’t wait to find out what happens next on the first reboot to actually get it right!
