December 22nd, 2006 under Heroes. [ Comments: none ]

NBC is preparing a marketing blitz to help give the second phase of "Heroes" a strong liftoff. The sci-fi-style series is taking a short break following its debut in September but will return to the network Jan. 22. If it’s a hit with men, then a football promo makes sense. If it’s a hit with men, then a football promo makes sense. "Heroes" is the No. 1 new show among 18- to 49-year-olds and the No. 1 non-sports entertainment show among men 18-49. With a 6.7 rating/16 share and 8.7 million viewers, it’s the No. 5 show on TV overall. The series’ fall finale aired Dec. 4. The show revolves around characters with special powers, such as a painter who can draw the future and a cheerleader who can’t die. Naturally, they’ve been chosen to help save the world. NBC’s promotional efforts include a plan to give away 10,000 T-shirts at a Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles football game televised by NBC on Christmas Day. Attendees who wear the T-shirt during the game and manage to get on TV will win $100. NBC’s sports announcers will also be promoting the show. A 13-minute catch-up episode centered on the characters and their special powers will be screened ahead of the series’ return next month snd will be available for distribution to Netflix’s 3 million subscribers, along with the pilot episode of NBC’s upcoming drama about an Irish clan, titled "Black Donnellys." The show is scheduled to replace "Studio 60" in March. "Fans are hungry for whatever they can get, but this one is for the people that have heard about it but not gotten into it," said John Miller, NBC Universal TV Group’s chief marketing officer.

Armed and Famous actors giving back to Muncie!
December 22nd, 2006 under Armed & Famous. [ Comments: none ]

With all the scrutiny the Armed & Famous celebs have been under in this town, it took a reader like Susan Burke to remind us that maybe these Hollywood types have hearts after all. Burke, 48, is one of the law breakers — "I blew through a stop sign" — who had a run-in with a celebrity cop since they’ve been in town. Her law enforcer? Erik Estrada. "When I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t believe who was coming toward me. I about hit the floor," said Burke, a long-time fan of Estrada’s CHIPS. Burke said Estrada was incredibly kind and, though she signed a waiver (and got his autograph), didn’t get a ticket. Since being pulled over, Burke’s spoken to a cop who told her some of the great things the celebs have done for Muncie since coming to town — including Erik buying a bed and recliner for a family in need and Trish (Stratus) signing autographs at a local fire station. "You hear all the negative stuff about these guys, but then, come to find out, they’re doing good for this community too," she explained. "And I really feel like what they’re doing, they’re doing from the heart." That’s food for thought for those of you who are Armed & Famous grinches this holiday season.

The Star Press (story) and Armed and Famous (photo)

The show has gotten a lot of criticism because the producers have been paying people that are busted to be on the show, so it is nice to see that they are something positive in the town and were not asking for press by doing so!
BTW the show premieres on CBS on January 10th and I can’t wait!!!

Drugstore Cowboy director arrested for DUI
December 22nd, 2006 under Arrested, Mug Shot. [ Comments: none ]

Director Gus Van Sant was arrested early yesterday morning on a drunk driving charge in Oregon, The Smoking Gun has learned. Van Sant, 54, was popped at 1:40 AM by Portland cops and booked into the Multnomah County jail, where the below mug shot was snapped. According to a police spokesman, Van Sant was stopped at a traffic light when cops noticed his 2006 Porsche Cayenne’s headlights were off. Van Sant was then pulled over and officers detected "glassy eyes, slurred speech, and the smell of alcohol," said Sgt. Brian Schmautz. The famed director failed field sobriety tests and blew a .19 on a Breathalyzer (more than twice the state’s legal limit of .08). Van Sant, who was nominated for an Academy Award for 1997’s "Good Will Hunting," has also directed "Elephant," "Drugstore Cowboy," and "My Own Private Idaho." He is scheduled for a January 17 court appearance on the misdemeanor driving under the influence charge.

The Smoking Gun

My Private Idaho was one of the worst movies ever. So it is kind of like he is doing time, like I felt when I saw that movie.
