Rap mogul RUSSELL SIMMONS and his wife KIMORA LEE’s troubled marriage has gone to the dogs – they’re both committed to raising awareness about the dangers of chaining pets up outside. The couple, who recently split after seven years of marriage, are donating time and cash to help People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) activists highlight the plight of pets left out in the cold. Model-turned-designer Kimora has donated $20,000 (GBP11,100) to the cause, while Def Jam Records co-founder Russell has shot a public service ad to warn people about the dangers of leaving their dogs tied up alone. He says, "You should take your dogs inside… Your dog’s not going to be smarter or tougher or more resilient because you make him suffer."

Former DALLAS star LINDA GRAY is using every ploy she knows to land herself a role in her favourite TV series DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. The actress, who played SUE ELLEN in the cult American soap for 11 years, now wants to become a feature on Wisteria Lane alongside the programme’s current stars TERI HATCHER and EVA LONGORIA. Gray has already met with the show’s scriptwriters, who are themselves big fans of hers, and insists there’s a real chance she may be cast. She says, "Well, I said, ‘Hell, if you are such big fans, why am I not in your show?’ They stared at me like they didn’t know what to do with me, but I told them I should be on their show."

Mickey Rourke once had an unusual way of dealing with his anger – he cut off his finger. The actor was taken to the hospital and had to endure an eight-hour surgery to save his finger. Rourke is no stranger to violence — he trained as a boxer in his youth and took a five-year break from his acting career to take the sport up professionally. The eccentric star says, "I cut my little finger off because I thought I didn’t want it. I was angry about something so I decided I didn’t need the end of the little finger on my left hand. I didn’t cut it off completely – it was still hanging on a tendon – and an English friend, Gary, carefully carried the end of it as we went to hospital to try to rectify the situation. It took the surgeon eight hours to sew it back on. I still can’t bend it properly."
