ANTM writer’s to walk off the show?
July 20th, 2006 under Tyra Banks. [ Comments: none ]

The dozen writers on "America’s Next Top Model" may walk off the show as early as today. The scribes have threatened the job action after the fledgling network denied their request for representation by the Writers Guild of America West. The guild staged a protest Wednesday with about 25 demonstrators outside the production offices of Anisa Prods. and 10×10 Entertainment in Los Angeles and have planned another protest today. WGA spokesman Gabe Scott said all the "Model" scribes have signed authorization cards to be represented by the guild. In response, the CW and exec producer Ken Mok have told the WGA that it should ask the Natl. Labor Relations Board to conduct the election — a process that would probably take at least a year to complete. A CW spokesman had no comment Thursday about a possible strike but exec producer Ken Mok said in a statement, "We have advised the WGA that we feel the process established under the Natl. Labor Relations Act is the appropriate process to be followed if employees wish to be represented by a union. The process permits an impartial government agency, the Natl. Labor Relations Board, to conduct a secret ballot election so that all affected employees have an individual right to express their preference as to whether or not they want to elect a union." "We once again ask that the WGA follow the procedures provided by law," Mok added. "If, after doing so, the NLRB decides that the WGA is the exclusive representative of our employees, we would be happy to sit down and negotiate with them."

Two and a Half (million) Men?
July 20th, 2006 under Chuck Lorre. [ Comments: none ]

Charlie Sheen got his Emmy nomination. Now he wants his reward. The star of the hit CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men" is about to demand a big hike in his paycheck, two sources familiar with the matter say, possibly to as much $1 million per episode, or $24 million per year. That would be about five times what the actor currently makes and would vault him into the stratosphere of TV’s highest-paid actors. The six leads of NBC’s "Friends" made $1 million apiece in that show’s final seasons. Sheen’s co-stars, Jon Cryer and 12-year-old Angus T. Jones, are also seeking fat raises, although neither makes as much as Sheen. The negotiations with Warner Bros. Television, the studio that makes "Men," are expected to start officially on Friday and could take weeks or even months to resolve. Technically all three actors are under contract at least through the 2006-07 season. But Warner Bros. earlier this month concluded lucrative deals to syndicate the comedy on cable network FX and elsewhere. The cast members are now coming forward for their share of the loot, some of which may be paid in the form of advances against future profit participation in the show. A Warner Bros. spokeswoman declined to comment. Calls to representatives for Sheen, Cryer and Jones were not immediately returned.

I love this show, but I do not think he is worth a million an episode. Sorry Charlie! Now Chuck Lorre, he is worth a million an episode!

The walls of Hollywood Landmarks coming down
July 20th, 2006 under Old Hollywood. [ Comments: none ]

Four historic Sunset Boulevard buildings may be lost to developers as the real estate boom spurs construction of thousands of new housing units in Hollywood. Preservationists are vowing to take developers to court if certain landmarks are threatened to be torn down, the Los Angeles Times reported. But real estate brokers say Hollywood has an office shortage. "Hollywood is one of few places in L.A. that can elegantly accommodate growth," said Tom Cody, a principal at home builder Gerding/Edlen Development Co. The site of the Nickelodeon Theater, which dates back to the Great Depression and once featured Ziegfeld Follies-style dancers, is slated for residential development, Another location is the Columbia Square broadcasting complex, constructed in 1937, which has been the home of television stations KCBS-TV Channel 2 and KCAL-TV Channel 9 and radio station KNX-AM (1070). A third site is the Old Spaghetti Factory restaurant, dating back to 1924 that has been an acting school and radio station for KMPC-AM (710). Finally, there’s the 66-year-old Hollywood Palladium, which would be developed with residences, stores and a hotel.

It is so sad that so many buildings in old Hollywood are being torn down by people who have no appreciation for the history.

After a series of heart tests and round-the-clock observation, the 72-year-old actor was allowed to go home three days later.
