Sean Penn in trouble for smoking?
September 13th, 2006 under Sean Penn, Unadmirable People. [ Comments: none ]

Pressure is building on Ontario’s anti-smoking police to give Hollywood star Sean Penn a ticket after he was pictured lighting up at a news conference. "He should be charged," Health Promotion Minister Jim Watson said today at his own news conference to herald the first 100 days of the province’s tough new anti-smoking law. Almost 500 tickets have been issued to smokers and establishments but, so far, not to Penn or the hotel where he appeared during a news conference to promote his new movie, All The King’s Men, at the Toronto International Film Festival. Critics said it will appear the new Smoke-Free Ontario Act, which outlaws smoking in indoor public spaces, doesn’t apply to the rich and famous unless something is done. "It was such a flagrant breech of the law," said Michael Perly, executive director of the Ontario Campaign for Action on Tobacco. "It absolutely should be a target." Ontario’s chief medical officer of health said it’s up to hotels, bars and other establishments to tell patrons not to light up. If patrons persist, they should be ticketed, Dr. Sheela Basrur said. But it appears inspectors from the Toronto Public Health department have left Penn alone. Basrur said an investigation should begin immediately. Inspectors should also be more vigilant with major events like the film festival in future, Basrur said, noting tickets issued to individuals are typically for $105. Officials for the festival and Toronto public health could not immediately be reached for comment.

John Leguizamo needs to get over himself
September 11th, 2006 under Books, Unadmirable People. [ Comments: none ]

John Leguizamo played a cruel prank on Carlito’s Way co-star Penelope Ann Miller after the pair fell out – by shrinking her costumes. The actor took an instant dislike to Miller during the shooting of the 1993 film. In his upcoming autobiography “Pimps, Hos, Playa Hatas, And All The Rest Of My Hollywood Friends,” Leguizamo writes, "You really have to know Penelope Ann Miller to dislike her. She’s the kind of girl who would flirt with anyone in the world as long as people are watching."Leguizamo and the wardrobe department decided to get even with Miller – by taking in her clothes an inch at a time.He writes, "Every day her outfits are getting a little tighter, a little tighter. She goes on a starvation diet. Watch the movie, you’ll see she gets thinner and thinner."

Biggest a-hole quote of the day

SOPHIA Loren is way past her shelf life as a sex goddess at age 71, according to designer Stefano Gabbana. "I don’t think much of Sophia Loren posing for the recent Pirelli calendar. What was that all about? I mean, she is a beautiful woman – but a beautiful elderly woman," the Dolce & Gabbana czar tells London’s Sunday Times. "You need to know when to say enough is enough and make room for the next generation."

She went on to reveal that she has been getting such extra help with her looks since the age of 29. ‘I’m not going to lie to myself: past a certain age, creams work on the texture of your skin but, in order to restore elasticity, all I can really count on is vitamin injections, Botox and collagen,’ she tells this week’s Gala magazine.Crawford in the past has insisted that a ‘miracle mixture’ of ground coffee and olive oil kept her skin in its enviable condition.
