Neilsen monitoring commercials
July 11th, 2006 under TV Scripted Prime Time. [ Comments: none ]

Nielsen Media Research plans to measure how many people actually watch TV commercials starting in November, a move that could result in a decline in advertising rates, The Wall Street Journal said on Tuesday.Nielsen, which tracks what people watch on television, plans to provide for the first time ratings for TV ads, the Journal said. At the moment Nielsen rates entire television programs, on which TV ads feature. Both TV networks and advertisers expect Nielsen’s new tracking to show viewership drops noticeably when commercials are broadcast during a program, which could fuel advertisers’ push for changes in how ads are incorporated into shows.A drop in viewership could also accelerate the flow of advertising dollars out of television to the Internet and new digital media, the newspaper said.

This makes so much sense to me amazing they did not do this earlier.

A second generation to enjoy V!
July 7th, 2006 under 80s, TV Scripted Prime Time. [ Comments: none ]

That’s "V" as in the letter "V," not the Roman numeral for "five." Otherwise, I guess the sequel would be "VI."
Now, the original V aired when I was about seven, so I never watched much of the original miniseries, or the TV series that followed. It’s not like I couldn’t have watched it as a seven year old, but I was kind of a wuss when I was a kid and those scary lizard people were too much for me. If any of you would like to go back in time and heckle me as a seven year old, feel free to do that. Seriously, that kid needs some toughening up.
So anyway, TV Filter hepped me to information about a possible miniseries sequel to the original series, helmed by original writer and director Kenneth Johnson. Right now it seems they’re trying to secure the finances needed to do the series, but before that happens you’ll be able to purchase the novel based on Johnson’s screenplay by early 2007. According to the IMDb trivia page for V – The Second Generation, several original cast members have signed on to the project, including Robert "Freddy Krueger" Englund. This is IMDb, so I don’t necessarily trust the information completely, but if all of this turns out to be true, it could be a very cool thing for fans of the series.

I so loved this mini-series and series so much! In fact that is where I developed my crush on Robert Englund!

Roger Ebert is serious condition.
July 2nd, 2006 under Movies, Sick Bay, TV Scripted Prime Time. [ Comments: none ]

Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert was in serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Sunday following an emergency operation to repair complications from an earlier cancer surgery.

Ebert’s vital signs appeared to be good after the hourslong operation, said Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper, co-host of the "Ebert & Roeper" movie review show.

On June 16, Ebert underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth on his salivary gland. Around 8 p.m. Saturday, a blood vessel burst near the site of the operation.

Ebert, 64, has had four cancer surgeries, including two on his salivary gland in 2003.

Before the June 16 operation, Ebert told Sun-Times columnist Robert Feder the salivary gland growth was a "slow-growing and persistent cancer. You live with it."

Ebert, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and Roeper taped six shows in advance so their syndicated program would continue while Ebert recuperates.

The Coreys are back! The Coreys are back!!!
June 21st, 2006 under TV Scripted Prime Time. [ Comments: none ]

Stop the presses! The apocalypse is clearly upon us! According to Variety, once-inseparable onetime Tiger Beat pinups Corey Feldman and Corey Haim have landed a series together. The producers of Wife Swap have cast the erstwhile Lost Boys in The Coreys, an improv comedy in which they would play semifictionalized versions of themselves. (Think Curb Your Enthusiasm; just don’t be so enthusiastic about it.) The train wreck in the making is currently being shopped around to cable networks – although I suspect that for cab fare and a Schlitz, the guys would be perfectly happy to do it in your living room.

You so know VH1 is going to pick this up!
