Remember when we thought that the Golden Globes were dead because their members are almost all white males? Well, it is back on NBC on January 10th, and they wanted a host that will make us think they believe in equality. So they asked Jerrod Carmichael to do it.
The comedian is brilliant enough to do it. But he might be too smart for the awards show’s audience. And I am also talking about the ones who will be there physically.
“We’re so excited to have Jerrod Carmichael host the historic 80th Golden Globe Awards. His comedic talents have entertained and thrilled audiences while providing thought-provoking moments that are so important in the times we live,” said Helen Hoehne, President of the HFPA. “Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls for to kick off the awards season.”
I hope he kicks things off by kicking the Hollywood Foreign Press in the balls during his monologue. He has the potential to make Ricky Gervais look tame. But will he be brave enough to go there? I hope he does.
And I hope that Brendan Fraser is off limits because the actor does not want to be associated with them. Rightfully so.
Back to Carmichael, I am happy for him because it is a big deal to be asked to host something of this magnitude. Maybe NBC will realize they made a mistake cancelling The Carmichael Show and bring it back for another season. It is not like Tiffany Haddish and Lil’ Rey have done anything since then.
If you have never seen his sitcom, you need to check it out on Hulu. It is one of the best shows of this century.
First off, I love Jerrod Carmichael ever since I saw the pilot for The Carmichael Show. Personally, I think he and his sitcom were robbed of the recognition and the awards they deserved for the show.
Now, having said I wish he would’ve lost at the Emmys yesterday instead of winning Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel. What? How can you say that?
Before the show started, the comedian told Vanity Fair what would happen if he lost. “I want to make clear. I want to win. And I am not just happy to be nominated. That is a lie. That is like bullshit. I am only here to win,” he said. “And if I lose, I will leave immediately. Like there will be an empty seat at a table. I am a sore loser. I will not be a fair sport. And I will get the fuck out of here. I’ll be out here eating In’n’Out. If I lose, I will see you in the drive-thru.”
Could you imagine if he lost? Carmichael would’ve used P Diddy’s fur coat as a cape and flown out of there faster than you could’ve said Rothaniel. But he won an award, and we were robbed of the opportunity. Maybe next time…
Jerrod Carmichael is recently out, so Howard Stern wanted to know if the comedian has found love when he was on the Shock Jock’s radio show today.
As of now, Carmichael is single and ready to mingle on Grindr. And he has the perfect weapon to get a man. What is it? It is a photo of him with Taylor Swift at Lena Dunham’s wedding. The actor says that it works on the men in New York City.
What also works on them are the promo photos Carmichael took when he hosted Saturday Night Lie earlier this month.
Personally, I don’t think he needs any of that. Carmichael is super nice and uber-talented. If you have never seen The Carmichael Show, you are missing out on one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. He is beyond brilliant, and any man would be lucky to have him.
Kevin Hart and Lil Rel are two of today’s biggest comedians, and together they are starring in the Netflix drama Fatherhood. Since the streaming service wanted to lighten the mood, they asked the two actors to tell each other dad jokes.
How did they do? I think they should hit the road and make that their act. I think Hart was funnier here than in his standup acts. Rel’s standup, on the other hand, makes me laugh a lot.
I have been watching Rel since he was on The Carmichael Show, and I am so happy that he has become the leading man he deserves to be.
On October 7th, Amber Stevens West gave birth to her daughter, Ava Laverne, on her birthday. You would never know that was just 18 days ago by looking at her at the premiere yesterday of the movie Love Jacked that comes out tomorrow. She looks almost like she did before she got pregnant.
When it comes to her Monday night sitcom, a source told me that they started production early so they can have a long hiatus during her maternity leave. Meaning we will not know it by watching the show every week. If you are not watching Happy Together on CBS, then you are missing out on a very funny comedy that makes you laugh out loud.
