Undateable is one of the smartest comedies on television, but how smart is the cast? Tonight at 10p, Rick Glassman, David Fynn, Ron Funches and Brent Morin test out their smarts on GSN’s Idiotest.
The four comedians will try their best to answer the clues that are given to them, while the host Ben Gleib tries to maintain control of his game show. Who has the harder task? The host obviously because these four funny men have a hard time trying to determine the obvious from the answer in questions like what in the picture has a 5 o’clock shadow or a which is the smallest hole they can get the pictured balloon through. The latter one leads to a hysterical joke from Gleib, thus helping them realize that this is his show and he’s the boss.
Why are stars of Undateable putting themselves through this Idiotest? It’s all for a good cause, the winning team will get to donate $10,000 to the charity of their choice. Glassman and Fynn are playing for the Red Cross and PATH: People Assisting the Homeless, and Funches and Morin are playing for Autism Speaks and Boys and Girls Club. Both teams and their charities are winners, just one is a bigger winner.
Tonight’s episode of Idiotest makes you use your brain two ways. The first is testing your wits as you try to guess which item in a photo answers the given question. Not everything is at it appears, so you really have to focus to determine the correct answer. The second one is allowing yourself to laugh for a half hour straight because that is what these 5 men accomplished. So be prepared for your brain and cheeks to hurt for a long time afterwards, and it is one of the few times where I say pain is a good thing.
Tune in Idiotest tonight to watch the cast of Undateable try to prove that they are not idiots and then keep tuning in every Tuesday at 10p to see everyday citizens to do the same thing. Plus, it is fun to use your brain in different way than it is used normally. It’s a muscle that needs this type of workout.
One of the many things that makes Undateable so highlarious is that the cast enjoys trying to make the other cast members lose it on live television. Yesterday during the East Coast live show, when Shelly asked Danny to strip down, Ron Funches had no idea what he was going to see next. Chris D’Elia was left standing in his tighty whities with Bunches of Funches face on top of his peepee! What happened next? You just have to watch the episode on NBC.com, the NBC app or OnDemand. It is well worth it, plus Weezer was the musical guest.

Last week, we saw the cast of Undateable dressed up for Halloween as a Centaur, Winne the Pooh, the Captain from the Titanic, Pizza Rat, Jewish Wolverine and sexy Steve Jobs, and this week we are getting to see them as lovable puppets. Ron Funches, who is already a lovable puppet, modeled his mini-me and it is too awwwwdorable for words.
If this is what this week’s episode on NBC is going to be like, then Friday at 8p can’t come soon enough. Plus, it will be interesting to see if this week’s prop will mess them up during the live show. It is so much fun to watch them crack up uncontrollably during the live show. In case you didn’t know, Undateable is live every week. The only scripted show that has been able to say that in over 20 years.
via Ron Funches Undateable is the first sitcom in over 20 years to go live for a full season, and that should be enough of a reason to get you to watch. But there are many more reasons to check out this highlarious show. It is the funniest and most relatable comedy on television today is another reason. What about the fact that they are using social media to interact with their fans 7 days a week? In fact, they are taking interacting with us so seriously, that they actually have a cell phone you can call to speak to someone from that show. That’s right, if you dial (313) 525-2014, someone from the show will pick up.
Still not sure if you want to want to watch this show every Friday at 8p on NBC after all of that, what about how sexy David Fynn looks wearing just the phone number to call. That is actually more than he normally wears on the show. Tuning in now, aren’t you?
Undateable is already doing the unthinkable by going live every week on the East Coast, and now they decided to take it even further. NBC announced that not only will they go live at 8p ET every Friday night; they will also do a live show for the West Coast. That’s right, they will do two live shows every week, which hasn’t been done since, heck I don’t know when, if ever.
Why are they doing this? I am assuming that the cast and crew really enjoy what they are doing and want to keep this sitcom on the air. Actually a few weeks ago, Ron Funches, who plays Shelly, told me just that when I asked him how he reacted when they found out they would be doing the whole 3rd season live. He said, “We were just very excited that we were going to be able to come back. It was always up in the air, so just knowing we were going to come back, come back in the fall with a bunch of support, is nice.” Then he added, “If we have to do it live, if we have to do it underwater, then we’ll do it that way.” As of now, there are no plans to do the show underwater. But how cool would that be?
One thing they are doing is they are interacting with the fans on social media and promoting the show even on their days off. Funches explained why they are interacting with their fans by Tweeting, using Periscope and even a real phone (313-525-2014), “We’ll be just doing anything we can to keep this show alive and in people’s minds.” Then he added, “That is what it has been all about. The only we survive, is that we have a lot of fans online that get the word out. We are not going to run away from that now. We are fully invested in it. That’s how we are alive, fans are like we like this show.”
For the most part, Undateable is Funches first big role and he is loving his time on the set. He described it as, “It is a lot of fun, especially if it is always something you wanted to do your whole life. You are like, oh man, this is cool. Because sometimes you are like this is for real and then you look up and, oh no, this is real fake.” One thing he can’t fake is his friendship with everyone there. He told us he loves that he gets paid to come in and chat with his friends.
We are happy, he’s getting paid to make us laugh with his signature giggle every week. His giggle is just one of the many reasons to tune in, but there are so many others. What other show would do Summer Nights like that? What show would go live not once, but twice every week? What show would give us new ways to have fun with friends like Slow Motion Celebration? There’s just so much to enjoy and the risks they are taking by going live every week shows how far they are willing to go to get us to watch. Because actors don’t like us to see them mess up, and already this season we have seen all but one of them screw up. Don’t worry Brent Morin is making up for that one person who hasn’t. Poor Brent!
So tune in tonight to see if this is the week that Bianca Kajlich will finally break. More importantly tune in for a show that will make you laugh and laugh and laugh some more. I promise you will it enjoy so much, you will want to have a Slow Motion Celebration when it is done and so much more!
