NICOLE Richie, facing jail for allegedly driving stoned the wrong way down a highway, has reached out to dad Lionel and asked for help – in the shape of a driver! The concerned crooner has asked his super-skinny 25-year-old adopted daughter how he can help after her run-in with the LAPD earlier this month. We’re told: "After his wild youth Lionel feels he doesn’t have a right to lecture. "He wanted to let Nicole know that if she needed anything like counselling, more rehab, he would be happy to help her. "Nicole confessed that the only thing she could think of that would help her right now was a chauffeur."

As someone who drove on the 134 last night, I really hope that Lionel gets her that Christmas present! 

Don’t invite Nicole Richie and Hilary Duff to the same party. Duff has bad-mouthed Richie — who she thinks is a “skank,” according to Us Weekly. Joel Madden, who is dating reality show star Richie and who used to date the “Lizzie McGuire” star is apparently at the center of the friction. Madden and Duff split in November, and although Madden has been loyal to Richie, he keeps calling his ex, according to the mag, but she doesn’t return his calls. “[Duff] can’t believe he’s dating Nicole and thinks she’s a skank,” a source told Us, adding that when Duff heard about Richie’s arrest, “she asked if Nicole had been coming from Joel’s. … She kept saying she never knew Joel at all.”

Usmagazine.com has learned exclusively that Nicole Richie is telling friends that the reason she was on the painkiller Vicodin during her recent arrest was to treat menstruation cramps. Richie, 25, was arrested early Monday morning for driving under the influence of marijuana and Vicodin, after she was seen driving the wrong way down a California highway. Vicodin is an opiate and Richie’s involvement with the drug raises concern because she was once hooked on heroin, and former addicts who dabble in other drugs risk relapse. But pals of the Simple Life star insist that Richie has changed her ways since completing drug rehab in 2003. "She knows she made a mistake, but overall she’s in a better place," says a close friend of Richie. "She has come a long way from her heroin days." The celebutante is said to be upset over media reports that she’s addicted to pills, and is insisting to friends that she only "occasionally" takes Vicodin once a month at the start of her menstruation cycle. Richie is also upset that the police listed her at 85 pounds because "she’s so proud of her weight gain," says the source, who adds that Richie has gained about ten pounds in the last two months and now weighs around 95 pounds. "She doesn’t know where the cops came up with 85 pounds and it’s annoying to her." The embattled reality star spent Tuesday afternoon on the L.A. set of a music video for Good Charlotte with Joel Madden, 27, the band’s front man and Richie’s current flame. She is now resting at her West Hollywood condo. Richie’s rep has no comment.
