The Lights are not going out on Friday Night Lights!!!
November 13th, 2006 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

NBC said Monday it has ordered a full season’s worth of "Friday Night Lights" episodes, its second endorsement in a week of a freshman series that so far has attracted more attention from critics than viewers. The drama, based on the book and film of the same name, focuses on the coach and football players from the high-school team in rural Dillon, Texas. "We’re proud to reward an authentic, poignant series," said Kevin Reilly, NBC entertainment president. The show has averaged 6.1 million viewers this season. It stands at No. 81 in Nielsen Media Research’s season ratings, or just below ABC’s Friday-night rerun of "Grey’s Anatomy." NBC said it was encouraged that the show had a bigger audience in the second half hour than the first in its first five showings on Tuesdays, an indication that those who were watching liked what they saw. It also did well among young viewers during a special tryout on Monday, Reilly said.

NBC announcing new lineup this week?
November 12th, 2006 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

Despite shaky ratings and some increasingly harsh critical comments, NBC announced last night that it would order additional episodes of the new drama “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.” The show has been one of the most talked-about new series of the fall season because it was the first new drama from Aaron Sorkin since he created the award-winning “West Wing.” “Studio 60” began the season with strong ratings, but by the second week it began dropping. In the last few weeks, Hollywood has been filled with rumors that NBC was about to cancel the show. But yesterday Kevin Reilly, the president of NBC Entertainment, concluded negotiations with Warner Brothers, which produces the show, and with Mr. Sorkin for nine more episodes, which will take the series to the end of the current season. “I’ve spoken with Aaron and I’m very happy with his plans for the rest of the season,” Mr. Reilly said. “I have seen the word ‘hit’ being attached to shows with lower ratings than that,” Mr. Reilly said. But he did not commit to keeping “Studio 60” in the 10 p.m. Monday time period it has occupied since the beginning of the season. That spot is coveted because it follows NBC’s newest hit, “Heroes.” Mr. Reilly said that he would announce a new NBC schedule next week and that “Studio 60” would “not necessarily stay on Monday.”

Touchdown! Friday Night Lights and What About Brian get full season orders!!!
November 10th, 2006 under ABC, NBC. [ Comments: none ]

This just in! A source close to ABC tells me that What About Brian has been picked up for the entire season. And the news gets even better for Brian fans (of which, I must confess, I am not one): I hear Sarah Lancaster was back on the set last week shooting an episode. Not sure how permanent her return is or what brings Marjorie back to town. In other (and much more exciting) back-nine news, I have it on good authroity that NBC is thisclose to giving our beloved Friday Night Lights a full-season pickup. (The crowd roars.)

Ausiello Report

As much as I hated Friday Night Lights when it first started, I am now hooked on this show. And What About Brian? is a guilty pleasure for me, Monday’s episode should be a tear jerker so get your tissues ready.

So much for all that cancellation talk. Just got word that NBC has given Aaron Sorkin’s struggling Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip a full-season order.

Yahoo! All I ask is that never bring back Christine Lahti…she needs to stop getting jobs because her husband is the EP of the show!

Another failed show for Alicia Silverstone?
November 6th, 2006 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

NBC is looking to cut back the order of midseason comedy series "The Singles Table," sources said. The 20th Century Fox TV-produced show, originally picked up for 13 episodes, has now been asked to produce six half-hours. Five episodes, including the pilot, have already been completed. "Singles," from writers-executive producers Bill Martin and Mike Schiff, is a single-camera comedy revolving around five strangers who bond after sitting together at the singles table at a mutual friend’s wedding. The show’s cast includes John Cho, Jarrad Paul and late addition Alicia Silverstone. Observers noted that an episode order cutback would be pricey for NBC given the international sales already in place for the show and the episode fee guarantees associated with high-level talent like Silverstone.

Sounds like this show is not that good if they cut the order.
