For the last year we have been talking about the contracts for the cast of The Big Bang Theory being up at the end of this season and the show possibly ending because of that. That no one realized another popular show is in the same boat. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast of Modern Family’s contracts are also up at the end of the season and as of now, they have not started to renegotiate new ones.
The trade says that the older 6, Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Jessie Tyler Ferguson and Ed O’Neill, make around $350,000 as well part of the show’s profits. When you think that some of the casts of Friends, Seinfeld and Two and a Half Men were rumored to get $1,000,000 an episode at the end of their runs, you would think the ABC sitcom actors might try to get a lot more they are currently making.
Plus, what it is interesting, some reports say that some of the TBBT cast also make $350,000 an episode. Both shows are the top two sitcoms on television. Even though, they are two different networks and owned by different studios, it will be interesting to see if they will look at the other when it comes to their negotiating games. They would be smart to work together to get fair deals for themselves.
Now having said that, I think they would be stupid to be greedy. If you think about, most of these cast members will be typecasted and will most likely find it hard to find new jobs when the shows end. Look at the casts of Friends and Seinfeld and how hard it has been for most of them to find other lasting jobs. Plus, when it comes to Modern Family, the younger stars are becoming more famous than the adults and could try to get a lot more dinero. All that could cause problems for the show that is in its 8th season.
When it comes to me, if I think it should end. I have to say, even though I watch it, I would be OK with it ending. It hasn’t been as good and it is one of ABC’s weaker sitcoms. Speechless and American Housewife have proven they could be the network’s future. Would you be sad to see Modern Family go if negotiations don’t go well?
