Spectrum announced today that it is not moving forward with a third season for LA Finest, according to The Hollywood Report. The Bad Boys spinoff, which stars Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union, has quite an interesting history. The pilot was made for NBC, but they turned it down. Spectrum decided to get into the series business and picked it up. When Fox needed some programming for the fall, due to the coronavirus pandemic, they picked up the first season to fill their airtime. The show’s second season premiere was delayed due to the Black Lives Matter movement after George Floyd’s death.
It was the little show that could until it couldn’t.
L.A.’s Finest was supposed to debut its second season today on Spectrum Originals. However, they decided to hold off on premiering the Bad Boys spinoff, that stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, until later this year, according to Variety.
The cable provider did not explain why they are delaying the cop drama, but it is assumed because of the current climate of protests against the violence and systemic racism towards black people by corrupt cops. It is just not the best time to air a show glorifying police officers.
Even though L.A.’s Finest is a Spectrum Original show, the first season is slated to air on Fox in September. I have a feeling the cable provider will debut season two right after season one finishes on broadcast. Which would be smart. Why wait for season two, if you can watch it immediately? They might even get a few subscribers to uncut the cord.
Bad Boys was good, but they have nothing on the television spinoff LA Finest. Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union bring their sass to Spectrum OnDemand today. The networks might have rejected it, but Spectrum was smart to make it their first scripted show.
Syd (Union) moved from Miami to LA to have a calmer life as a detective after being shot and left for dead. That past makes her the tough cop that she is, but she does not share her former life with anyone including her partner.
Nancy (Jessica Alba) also has a troubled past, but she turned her life around. She is now married to Patrick McKenna (Ryan McPartlin) and together they are raising his teenage daughter Izzy (Sophie Reynolds). Patrick just got offered the job to be the District Attorney and that is going to affect the McKenna household
You don’t care about that. You want to know if they are going to be explosions, car chases, shoot outs, fights and all those other things that come with Dick Flicks. The leads might be females, but they have bigger balls than most of their male competition.
So Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are filming Bad Boys 3 as you read this, but that movie is not going to come out for another year. Plus, it is a one-time showing.
Its spinoff, L.A. Finest starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union will debut on Spectrum OnDemand May 13th. Not only that it is 13 episodes. If this trailer is just a tiny glimpse of what we can expect from the show, then who is going to want to see that movie? These actresses will show them who is boss! They are.
Boys might like their explosions and car chases, but they like it even more when there are two sexy women causing them. Thus, what is not to like about L.A. Finest?
