Mindy Kaling brought Scooby Doo’s Velma’s story to life in an animated series on Max. And to say the fans hated it would be an understatement.
Yet somehow, the show will be back for another season. Suzanna Makkos, Executive Vice President, Original Comedy and Adult Animation, Max and Adult Swim, made the announcement today at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
I guess people are hate watching it, and that is why I got renewed. Because I don’t know anyone who wanted more. Did you?
The full trailer for And Just Like That’s season 2 is out, and it looks painfully bad.
I am a Queer As Folk girl, so I didn’t watch Sex and the City. But I have a lot of friends who did. They also watched And Just Like That and were not fans of the sequel series.
After watching the trailer for season 2, I think they are going to like it even less. What happened to the fun they used to have?
If they get a season 3, they need to bring back the fun, fashion, and food! Less of the dramatics.
Before we get to that and the return of Kim Cattrall, we need to get through the season that starts June 22nd on Max.
A few months ago, I rewatched Gremlins and Gremlins: The New Batch with my nieces, who were watching it for the first time, and I got to see how much they loved it. Now, I can’t wait to share the animated origin story with them.
The first two episodes of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai debuted on Max today, and this is something that everyone can enjoy as a family or by themselves. Because who doesn’t love Gremlins?
Gizmo, our favorite Mogwai, is in the secret land of Mogwais, but somehow an eagle swoops in and tries to kill the lovable animals. Thankfully, Gizmo escapes, and he winds up in Shanghai, China, during the 1920s. Unfortunately, when he arrives there, he is taken in by a circus that keeps him locked up.
Sam Wing, 10, (Izaac Wang) and his grandfather (James Hong) visit the circus and decide to save Gizmo because they know the power of Mogwai gone bad.
They bring Gizmo back to his grandfather’s magic store. However, they know that he has to go back to the land where he came from so that everyone can be safe.
Just as they get to the store, they are greeted by the evil sorcerer Riley Green (Matthew Rhys). He is going to do everything in his power, which is very powerful, to get the legendary and immortal Mogwai.
There is going to be a fight between good and evil in the store, and Sam barely escapes with Gizmo. The two of them, along with teenager Elle (Gabrielle Nevaeh Green), who used to work with Riley, are going to go on a dangerous trek that will have them encounter some of the scariest people and Chinese Folklores imaginable to man as they try to get Gizmo home.
And if that is not scary enough for them, Riley and his Gremlins are never too far behind. Did I mention that Gizmo got wet before he escaped? And did I mention that his offspring ate after midnight? Well, that happened, and they are just as scary as the ones we saw in the movies. Although, I found them lovable.
Anyways. Does the story end when they get Gizmo home, or does it just begin? I can’t tell you that.
What I can tell you is that the first two episodes of the 10-episode series begin streaming today, and two more episodes will debut every Thursday until the season finale on June 22nd.
That, and the animation is beautiful. Even in their most harrowing moments, you can’t look away from the beauty of it all. The amount of care that went into the animation is evident. This is a love letter to something that means a lot to everyone involved, and it shows.
Plus, it is a story that people can love for generations. It has cuteness, adventure, family, and so much more. I didn’t know how much I needed a prequel to Gremlins, but I did. And this satisfies every longing I have been having since I have seen Gremlins: The New Batch in 1990. I promise it will do the same for you.
Now, I just have one request for Warner Bros. Can you release a Gizmo doll? I tried to buy one for my niece, and the only one available is a piece of crap. We all need the original Baby Yoda as a stuffed animal to hug at night.
Tomorrow on Max, get ready to watch the three-part documentary, How to Create a Sex Scandal, about a sex scandal that never happened.
Margie and John Cantrell took in several foster children throughout their marriage and raised them as their own. The couple started out in California but moved to the small town of Mineola, Texas.
In 2004, that small town was about to be rocked because they found out there was a Swinger’s Club operating in their area. And that was not the worst of what they were going to discover.
The Cantrells took in three siblings whose parents were deemed unfit to raise them. Shortly after they moved in, the Cantrells noticed they were acting odd. So they asked them what was going on.
The children told their foster parents they were being used as sex toys in the Swinger’s Club. So Margie called the authorities, and they investigated the crime known as Kindergarten Sex.
The three children told their story to the Texas Rangers, and their case went to court. By the end of their investigation, seven people, including the kids’ parents, were tried and convicted of the crime.
And that is where the first episode’s story ends. In the next episode, their case seems to unravel, and one of the newspapers is given a tip that this might not have happened at all.
The more the reporter looks into it, the more it seems that their story is made up. But why? That is when we find out that Margie is not as sweet as she said she was in part 1.
She was mentally and physically abusing the children. She brainwashed them to believe that this really happened to them. But it didn’t.
What happens when the Cantrells’ abuse is found out? That is what we find out in the final episode.
They say the truth is stranger than fiction, and this true story is definitely that. If you didn’t see the words coming out of the people involved, you would never believe that a whole town would believe the lies. But they did. And the lack of repercussions will surprise you.
You will hear from the three kids in the case, the Cantrells, the people they accused, the journalists who covered the case, and other children who accused the Cantrells of abuse.
Each episode has its own theme and tells the story as it took place. The first episode deals with scandal, the second shows how the case fell apart, and finally, the consequences for everything that happened in Mineola.
What I liked most about this three-part series is that it didn’t repeat itself every five minutes. Instead, they let the shocking tale play out and did not tell me repeatedly what I watched.
In fact, because it flows so naturally, you feel like you are watching a newscast that is telling the story in real time. And that is why I binged this without stopping. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next.
How to Create a Sex Scandal will keep you on the edge of your seat because you go from feeling sorry for them, to questioning what happened to those children, to I can’t believe it didn’t happen.
So if you want to watch something that seems too crazy to be true, then you are going to be hooked on this. It is the best docuseries I have seen in a long time.
Did you know that little Chrissy Seaver from Growing Pains is the voice of Ellie in the three The Last of Us video games? She is.
And on tonight’s season finale of The Last of Us, she will be playing Ellie’s mom Anna when she was pregnant with her daughter. How cool is that? I wonder if that is a video game to screen first?
Also, isn’t it incredible how much Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie on the HBO show, looks like Johnson when she starred with Betty White and Marie Osmond on Maybe This Time? It is uncanny.
