I will be honest with you, I hated all of Fox’s new comedies (although Dads is growing on me) and I am not fan of most of the fall dramas (midseason is a different story), but that all changed after I finally watched Sleepy Hollow this weekend. This show that debuts on Fox at 9p tonight is head (no pun?) and shoulders above all the other dramas for the fall.
Sleepy Hollow starts out with Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) on the battlefield in Tarrytown when a masked horseman suddenly appears out of no where. After several shots, he doesn’t go down until Crane chops off his head. Now the Headless Horseman goes down and Crane does too because he was mortally wounded in the fight.
Then the episode picks up in present day and Crane is awakened from his grave in a cave. He doesn’t know where he is and more importantly when it is. If that isn’t bad enough, there is a someone going on a killing spree by chopping people’s heads off and Crane will be the lead suspect.
Detective Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) is a week away from leaving Sleepy Hollow for Quantico, but her plans are derailed when she starts investigating the murders of people in her hometown including her partner.
While almost no one believes that Crane didn’t commit the murders, Mills thinks he might be telling the truth when he reveals only something that she knows. So she partners up with him and they learn there is so much more to the Headless Horseman.
The show takes on the legends from the book along with the myths of the town and a story from the New Testament to give us a modern day take of a classic that will have you hooked by the opening credits.
Where the show goes from the premiere, I don’t know and I can’t wait to find out. And I am sure you will feel the same way.
But before Sleepy Hollow debuts, Bones is back on Fox at 8p. Brennan is still having issues with Booth who refused her proposal for an unknown reason. He still can’t tell her that he said no to protect the lives of innocent people that Pelant threatened to kill if he said yes. So now in order to save his relationship, he will have to find a way to tell her without Pelant finding out. Will he be able to do it or will his love be lost forever?
Freddie Prinze Jr makes his first appearance on the show, and if you blink you will miss it. Well maybe more than blink, but his recurring role will be explained tonight after his brief debut!
The fall season hasn’t even started yet and Fox has already done an about face with one of their new shows. Enlisted was set to make its series debut on November 8th, but now the show won’t be shipping out until January 10th.
Even though Fox says in their press releases, the delay is because they want to “take advantage of our winter sports promotional platform,” I personally am not buying it. Enlisted was the only new Fox show I was looking forward to, and I was beyond disappointed with the unfunny pilot.
So what will replace Enlisted’s time slot during the 2 month delay? Raising Hope will be airing back to back episodes for the time being. So that means we get to watch Bones at 8p and Raising Hope at 9p. Not a bad deal because it is two of their better shows. Even though it has pretty much been their death night since they started programming shows to air on Fridays.
Are you bummed you will have to wait to sign up for Enlisted or were you really looking forward to tuning in for it on November 8th?
BTW I find the timing of this announcement really interesting. Less than 24 hours after The X Factor returned with a series low, the network announces they are moving one of their fall shows to midseason. Are they trying to clear a timeslot for The X Factor on Friday nights or are they deciding to concentrate more on the midseason when their two big shows, American Idol and The Following, return? Although I wouldn’t put much hope into the new and “improved” Idol.
Zooey Deschanel Tweeted a picture of her face covered in blue plaint and it really brings out her beautiful eyes. So why is she looking like she should be in Avatar, we don’t know just yet. We will just have to wait to find out when her “weird job” at Fox with New Girl returns to TV on September 17th.
Fox is taking Animation Domination to a whole new level, they are growing up and creating cartoons that are not kid friendly. You might’ve thought that Seth MacFarlane had already done that, but he is not even close to what they have come up with with Axe Cop and High School USA!
Tonight at 9:30p we get a sneak peek of these two new animated comedies that will air Saturdays at 11:30p and you don’t want to miss them. If you love FX’s Archer, then you are going to fall madly in love with Axe Cop. He is a cop that has a special axe and he can fight any crime. Next week’s episode at its regularly scheduled time, he stops something and that something is what I think of the show.
Then there is High School USA which is like what if The Archies lost all of their Sugar Sugar sweetness. You know what you will find out that you like them much better the way Fox re-imagines them. You’ve always wanted to see Veronica and Betty kiss and now you will get to see just that!
So if you are in the mood for a naughty cartoon, then Fox is giving it to you will Animation Domination High-Def!
Fox announced this fall/spring lineup and I am perplexed by where they placed certain shows. They are airing Bones on Mondays to launch Sleepy Hollow and then they are moving it to Fridays. When it moves to the dreaded night it will be the lead in to Raising Hope and another sitcom. Which makes no sense to me because they are not a good fit together. I mean for me it is a positive because my two favorite shows on the net are paired together, but I just hate that they are on the throw away night. Glee will air in its old slot before being given a long hiatus. The musical comedy will be replaced by a show that I think is an awful pairing with the results shows of those two singing competitions. It made sense that Glee was with The X Factor and American Idol, but a drama that skews older makes no sense to me. Even comedies would be better fit, but what do I know. I also think holding The Following until the midseason will cause the show to lose some of its following. It is their hottest show, so they should get it back on the air ASAP and not hold it until the spring. And where the heck is my Kitchen Nightmares? Fox needs more Gordon Ramsay in the fall because one show is not enough for me. Finally I think Fox made a huge mistake by keeping The X Factors results show on Thursday. I think Simon Cowell’s show is going to drop big time in the ratings and they will really regret their choice. Airing only on night has been working for So You Think You Can Dance, why won’t it work for The X Factor?
