Tis the season that television lovers hate. That is when they find out which of their favorite Broadcast shows will be back and which one won’t be. For me, I fall in to the latter category and today several shows fell in to it too.
Over at ABC, the good news is that Modern Family will be back for not one but two more seasons. Which should be its last two, hopefully. Creativity wise it has been going down hill for while. Then we have American Idol’s first causality. Even though Last Man Standing does better than most of ABC’s other comedies and it airs on Friday nights, ABC cancelled the show after 6 seasons. But don’t worry Black-ish will be back for another season as if it wasn’t going to be.
CBS was quiet, while its sister station The CW renewed iZombie and The Originals for a fourth season. I am getting brains on the grill in honor of the pickup. Maybe awards shows will finally start to recognize Rose McIver who is the most underrated actress. While I wait to announce the new shows until next week, I have to tell you Dynasty is coming back and I am preparing to love to hate it every week.
Fox made my day because they picked up The Last Man on Earth for another season, so we will find out what Baby Phil Tandy Miller is going to look like. Will it have eyebrows and half a hair of head. Don’t send out the Bat signal because they also renewed Gotham is coming back too.
NBC was very vocal. They picked up Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med, but have not announced what they are going to with Chicago Justice. They did tell us that Timeless’ time is up. They also said that Jennifer Hudson is joining Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton on The Voice. On a positive note, she won’t be on the American Idol reboot.
In case you were wondering why I have a song from Jesus Christ Superstar at the top of my post, that is because it is getting the live treatment this Easter on NBC. I am hoping they cast Josh Groban as Jesus, Vanessa Hudgens as Mary Magdalene and I can’t believe I am saying this but Taylor Hicks as Pontius Pilate. Who do you want to cast in the lead roles?

Remember last year when Fox picked up Sleepy Hollow for another season after they killed off Abbie Mills and you were like WTF are they thinking? Well, this year they got it right because they said off with its head and finally cancelled it. Something that was long overdue.
The show had a great first season because the chemistry with Ichabod Crane and Mills was perfect. Then they added all these other people and lost their way. Finally, they killed off Mills not once but twice and the show needed to die like the Headless Horseman. Now, no one can save the once great show.
Another Fox show that was never great was Rosewood and today the show about coroner was sent to the morgue.
While Fox was saying off with their heads, NBC proved to us they were taken by Taken and picked it up for another season. What you never heard that the Peacock adapted the big screen movie for the little one. Don’t worry not too many other people know about it either.
Pitch was one of the most anticipated shows this season, but Fox gave it a crappy timeslot after the failing Rosewood and against Thursday Night Football. Obviously, it had a problem finding an audience but not a loyal fan base. Sadly, us fans got some bad news from the show’s creator Dan Fogelman yesterday who Tweeted, “I was informed today that #Pitch won’t be getting a 2nd season on Fox. Obviously we’re all crushed – thank you to our amazing fans. And thank you to our incredible cast & crew. Loved every minute. No way around it: we took a bad hop grounder to the face today.” Then he added, “All that said: this team put something original and high quality on TV and should be very proud of it – I certainly am of them #Pitch”
Kylie Bunbury, who played the first professional female baseball player, also took to social media to talk about the cancellation. She said, “My heart is heavy. 💔 Pitch will not be returning. I don’t have some eloquently thought out caption, because I’m still processing it all. Ginny Baker has profoundly changed my life and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play a role that resonated with so many people.
“I wasn’t ready to let go of Ginny, but more than anything I wasn’t ready to let go of my Pitch family- the cast, crew, creators and writers, thank you for the magic.
MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!- Thank you to all of the fans who took the journey with us! Your support and love for the show has always moved us deeply! I love you all. ❤️
Ginny Baker out ✌🏽⚾️”
We are grateful for the time we had with the show. Hopefully, one of the streaming sites will consider picking it up. I think it can find an audience, it just needs someone to believe in it like the Major League believed in Ginny Baker.
It has been months since we had an all new episode of Lucifer, but he is finally back on Fox tonight at 9p.
It has been two weeks since the last episode took place and no one has seen or heard from Lucifer (Tom Ellis) since he disappeared. Life has moved on for everyone in Los Angeles and he made a big change in his life too. When he finally returns, he has a big announcement. He got married and her name is Candy. No one is sweet on the Las Vegas showgirl except for Lucifer, so that will make things interesting for everyone. Especially, Chloe (Lauren German) who finally realizes she has feelings for him.
When Lucifer comes back she tries to shut him out of her latest investigation, but Candy comes in helpful. Lucifer and Chloe go to marriage counseling to investigate their latest murder case and she winds up revealing the feelings she has for him, but is he smart enough to figure it out?
Then there is his family especially his mother (Tricia Helfer) who don’t like their new in-law. Charlotte doesn’t have time for that because she has come up with a way to get them back up to Heaven. But that will play out more next week.
I watch a lot of television shows and Lucifer is one that I have to watch live. I hate waiting for new episodes because I adore it so much. It is witty, funny and one of the rare procedurals that keeps you guessing until the end of each episode. Plus, every now and again we get to hear Ellis sing. Tonight, he croons out a sexy version of Bangles’ Eternal Flame. Ladies, it will have you swooning as he serenades us through our television screens. Kind of like something the real Lucifer would do.

Do you love Shark Tank, but wish they only did toys? That is what The Toy Box on ABC at 8p tonight is all about, but with a twist!
Each week, 5 inventors pitch their toys to 3 judges to see if they will advance to the next round. Those judges are Dylan Candy’s creator Dylan Lauren, toy critic Jim Silver and Pixar Animation Studios’ creative director of Consumer Products, Jen Yan. After looking at their inventions, they decide if they should move on the toy box or go home to play with their toy.
What is the toy box? The business people who have moved on, face their toughest critics. Four judges, who are children, and they know what makes a toy work and what doesn’t. They are Aalyrah Caldwell, Noah Ritter, Sophia Grace Brownlee and Toby Grey. They might be in school, but they mean business. They ask the masterminds questions and then play with the toys before they deliberate who moves on.
Each episode, one person advances to the final round. The winner of that round gets their product produced by Mattel Toys. Something that they have given up their homes and children’s education to do. It is crazy how far these people have gone to make their dream a reality.
Toys like a soccer ball that opens up into other balls, a doll that talks in 3 languages, a ballerina doll that you can pose like one, 2 different takes on pinatas and many more toys that make you feel like a child again. On that note, this fast paced competition show is hosted by Modern Family’s Eric Stonesteet who is forever a child.

Do you love court shows and wish you could be on the jury? With You the Jury that debuts on Fox tonight at 9p you get to do just that.
Each week a a plaintiff pleads their case and their lawyers will question them and the person they are suing. After both sides have presented their cases and all their evidence has been heard, it is time for closing arguments. Unlike a real trial, the people involved in the case give them. Then it is up for you to decide who wins and who loses.
It sounds like a great idea on paper, but the modern day set makes it all seem cold. It feels more like Who Want to Be A Millionaire than You The Jury. That and Judge Jeanine Pirro is awful as the host because she is stiffer than a gavel. Plus, her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
My verdict is guilty as charged. It’s a good idea turned bad.
