Lucifer and The Gifted are our gift! 9JKL is throwback to funny comedies!
October 2nd, 2017 under CBS, Fox, Lucifer, Marvel Comics. [ Comments: none ]

Lucifer is back on Fox tonight at 8p and so are his wings. Lucifer (Tom Ellis) wakes up alone in a desert after being kidnapped and now he needs a way back to Los Angeles. Once he gets there, he goes to see Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) and she did not even know he was missing. Turns out he is was not the only one who was kidnapped, but he was the one who survived. Now they have to investigate the other victim’s murder.

Meanwhile, Lucy and his brother, Amenadiel (D. B. Woodside), have a heart to heart about who is their father’s aka Gd’s favorite son. This will make things awkward for them and they don’t have mom to bring peace between them since she is in her own universe.

Back to the force, there is a new sheriff in town aka lieutenant and his name is Marcus Pierce (Tom Welling). He does seem to like Decker, Lucifer or Detective Dan (Kevin Alejandro) and you can tell he is going to give the three of them trouble.

Oh and did I mention that Lucy finally decides to show his true face to Decker?

I seriously cannot express how much I love this show. It is one of the very few shows I must watch live because I cannot wait to for each new episode. It has everything you desire!

Then at 9p, The Gifted, based on the Marvel comic, debuts and it will quickly become one of your favorite shows. In the world of The Gifted, there are people who are just people and people who are mutants who have powers. Those abilities cause them to be on the run because the government wants to lock them up and throw the key.

They have abilities like Blink (Jamie Chung) who can transport herself by opening a whole in the air. Polaris (Emma Dumont) who can control magnets. Eclipse (Sean Teale) who can manipulate protons. Because of their abilities, they have a knack of running from the law and protecting their own kind.

Something the Strucker family is going to need. Reed (Stephen Moyer) the patriarch is a district attorney who puts the mutants away. He is going to be confronted with the fact that his son and daughter are just like the people he locks up. Andy (Percy Hynes White) can bend metal. When he is confronted by the school bullies, he loses it and exposes himself in a Carrie at the prom type of scenario. His sister, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) can control air and water to protect herself and uses that get her brother out of the school. When they get home, they finally tell their mom (Amy Acker) the truth. Just as they do, the cops come knocking on their door. Instead of turning them in, she flees with her family. Now they are run from the law and the other mutants team up with them.

Remember how good Heroes was its first season, this is very comparable. It is suspenseful and full of action. It is a perfect fit with Lucifer and because of that Fox has a very strong Monday night. Stronger than the mutants.

Then over at 8:30p on CBS, Mark Feuerstein’s real life comes to on 9JKL. Back when he got the job on his last show Royal Pains, he moved back to NYC and lived in between his parents and brother. His family did not have boundaries then and they are not going to have them now.

His mother (Linda Lavin) and his father (Elliott Gould) love having their son home. So much so they are not going to leave him alone. They will be there when he wakes up, comes home and basically anytime he is in the apartment. His brother (David Walton) and sister-in-law (Liza Lapira), who live on the other side of him, are just as bad. Good thing have a cute baby because so he cannot remain mad at them.

In fact, he cannot remain mad at any of them because afterall they are family and family is always there for you. But they sure as hell can be annoying as hell. And for us, as funny as hell. I can see this being my family which is why I live 3,000 miles away from them. It is that relatable factor that will have you enjoying this show and laughing with them. That and it is truly hilarious.

Don’t ghost Fox because you want to watch it on Sundays!
October 1st, 2017 under Fox, The Simpsons, Will Forte. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrsSVGf0sgQ
Game of Thrones is on hiatus for a really long time, but The Simpsons is back on Fox tonight and every Sunday at 8p. Not only will that give you something to do until that other show comes back, but tonight on the season premiere they merge both shows. That’s right they pay homage to the show with dinosaurs. When Marge’s mom (who knew she was still alive) gets sick, Lisa and Homer need to find an amulet to make her better. The older Simpson daughter needs to use her magic in a place where you cannot use it. What will she do? You will have to tune into a show that a 25 is just as good as its first and tenth and 17th season.

Then at 8:30p, Adam Scott and Craig Robinson are recruited to investigate the paranormal on Ghosted. Recruited is the wrong word, kidnapped from the jobs they do not want to be at, are the right ones. Leo Wright (Robinson) is a former LAPD cop, who was the best missing person’s investigator, until his partner was killed. Now he is a mall cop. Max Jennifer (Scott) was a Harvard professor, who wrote a book about the multiverse, and he lost his job when everyone thought he was crazy because he believes his wife was abducted. He works at book store to make ends meet.

Their lives are about to change when an agent in Bureau Underground, who investigate the paranormal and anything outside the science realm, goes missing. Before he did, he recorded a video and told his co-workers to find Wright and Jennifer to help locate him. Now, they are brought in to find him. What will they find out?

Think of this like a lifelike version of Scooby Doo, but with adults, no van and no dog. It is a lot of fun because it brings together two actors who work perfectly together. As long as you do not remember they did Hot Tub Time Machine 2 2gether!

Finally at 9:30p, The Last Man on Earth is back. But they are not on solid earth, instead they are on boat trying to escape the nuclear cloud that is coming their way.

The episode picks up where it left off, with Pamela Brinton (Kristen Wiig) just shooting Pat (Mark Boone Junior). She is not alone, she has a special A-List guest star with her. Because what would a season premiere be without one shocking(ly awesome) cameo?

Once they get rid of Pat, it is time for Pamela, Tandy (Will Forte), Carol (Kristen Schaal), Melissa (January Jones), Todd (Mel Rodriguez), Erica (Cleopatra Coleman) and her newborn, Gail (Mary Steenburgen) and Jasper (Keith L. Williams) to hit the high seas. They are on their way to Mexico and it looks like it will be smooth sailing. That is until, they think they are anchored in for the night, but they are not. Now they have no idea where they are after floating all night long. Where will their adventure take us?

We will have to tune in every week for a show that finds a way to surprise us in every episode. Whether it be a death, a cameo or a twist you never saw coming. LMOE is one of the most brilliant and enjoyable shows on television and more of you should be watching this gem!

Tonight’s TV theme is spoiled rich kids with awful parents on The Mick and L&O: True Crime
September 26th, 2017 under Fox, Kaitlin Olson. [ Comments: none ]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiHY1nhYjs4
The Mick is back for its second season tonight on Fox at 9p and it is even funnier this time around. The episode start offs shortly after the season finale left off and they have been living at a ritzy hotel since their huge mansion burnt down.

While the older kids, Sabrina (Sofia Black-D’Elia) and Chip (Thomas Barbusca) have been living the life of luxury, Mickey (Kaitlin Olson), Alba (Carla Jimenez) and the youngest sibling, Ben (Jack Stanton) have been sharing a hotel room. Things seem like they are still going well for them until their money manager forces them to move out of their 5 star hotel and into a Motel 6. Needless to say they do not like it and come up with a plan to bribe the money man to get back into their luxurious hotel.

If you are a fan of the show, then you know it will be beyond belief how far they will go to get their way. Let’s just say sink to their lowest yet. So will it work? You will just have to tune in for a family comedy that is not necessarily family friendly.

Then at 10p but over on NBC, is another television show about rich spoiled kids. This time it is the Menendez Brothers who killed their parents back in 1989 and tried to get away with murder.

Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers starts off with Erik (Gus Halper) and Lyle (Miles Gaston Villanueva) calling the police to tell them that their parents have been shot. Then the show moves forward from there covering their arrest and court case along with some flashbacks into why the brothers killed their parents.

Here is my deal with the show, it does not need to be done as a anthology series. The case and their story is not interesting enough for 8-1 hour episodes. It works as a 2-hour telemovie and I have seen them all, and that is it. Anything after that, is overkill. OJ Simpson worked because, it played out over a long time and we as a nation lived it every day. But not many of these cases warrant more than a telemovie. I do not think that the Andrew Cunanan story for FX is going to work because that barely played out over a week and it is barely a blip in history. They need to do stories like the Son of Sam, Charles Manson and Jack Kevorkian. Stories that we still care about that took hold of the public for months if not years. If NBC really wanted to make The Menedez Brothers work, they needed to start with their family life and midway through get to the murders. Otherwise, it is a been there, seen that. Because we have. And Lifetime just did a movie about them that told me as much as the first 2 episodes of this show do.

I like anthologies, but they need to be cases that need to be told in 8 hours because 2 is just not enough. Plus, it needs to be stories we want to know more about like Ted Bundy, Scott Peterson or Jodi Arias. What do you think?

As if we needed another singing competition show?
July 3rd, 2017 under Fox. [ Comments: none ]

We have The Voice on NBC, ABC stole American Idol from Fox and now Fox reportedly wants back in the singing competition business.

According to Variety, they are working with Armoza Formats to bring yet another show with people vying to be instant Rock Stars. The trade described the show as, “one in which the show’s four finalists are selected in the premiere episode. New contestants then challenge the finalists each week to steal one of the four slots. The winner is named in the season finale.”

I just cannot care. I am so over all of these singing shows that are the same thing but with different faces. The contestants sing, the judges try to be funny and then a winner is chosen only to never be heard from again. We do not need another program of this type. I hate to say this, but I am also learning from ABC’s retro lineup that not everything old is new again nor should it be. Therefore, I do not know what the solution is, but I do not think a singing and/or dancing competition is the answer.

Do you think it is time for the fat lady to sing or should she keep belting it out?
