Not only is Kristen Schaal a new mom on The Last Man on Earth, she is one in real life too. On February 11th, she announced on social media, “After years of trying and some experimental fertility treatments, Rich [Blomquist] and I had a baby! Everyone meet Ruby!” Today, she debuted Ruby, and she is a true gem!

The couple who wrote the book, Sexy Book of Sexy Sex, have been married for 5 years and this is their first child. Although, some might say their book was their first one!

Charlie Walk will not be part of The Four’s season finale
February 1st, 2018 under Fox. [ Comments: none ]

Days after Charlie Walk was accused of sexual harassment, he is out of the two jobs. According to Rolling Stone he was placed on leave from Republic Records during the investigation. They label said, “Republic Records is committed to a safe workplace environment where employees are treated fairly and respectfully,” and because of that they hired an outside law firm to do the investigation.

Then hours later, his lawyer issued a statement about his role on Fox’s music competition show, The Four, with Diddy, Meghan Trainor and DJ Khaled. Attorney, Patricia Glaser, gave this statement to the magazine, “Out of respect for the contestants, my fellow judges and everyone involved with the show, I have made the decision not to attend the finale of The Four,” Walk said. “I do not want my presence to be a distraction. Needless to say this is very upsetting. Although I continue to support the ‘Me Too’ movement, there has been an extreme rush to judgment against me in this particular case which is unfair and inconsistent with anything that even actually happened. I welcome any investigation so that in short order these unfounded and hurtful accusations can be put to rest.”

The accusations come from Tristan Coopersmith, who said that he made that vulgar comments to her and inappropriately touched her when she worked for him.

When it comes to Fox, he will be part of tonight’s pretaped episode, but will not be part of next week’s live season finale. They have yet to announce a replacement, but I say they just go with host Fergie, who has been there since day one. That and she has been doing music longer than most of the contestants have been alive, so she knows her stuff.

Fox dispatches a second season of 9-1-1

Even though 9-1-1 has just aired 2 episodes, Fox has already picked up the show about first responders for a second season. The news is no surprise because the Ryan Murphy series has been killing it in the ratings. Which is no shock to me because I am already loving the drama that stars Connie Britton, Peter Krause and Angela Bassett. It is the perfect mix of showing us what it is like to be on the dangerous job and life when you are not on it.

See Fred Armisen in a new light on The Last Man on Earth tonight
January 7th, 2018 under Fox, Will Forte. [ Comments: none ]

When we last left off with The Last Man on Earth, we caught a quick glimpse of Fred Armisen as he made his debut on the brilliant, touching and funny sitcom. Tonight at 9:30p on Fox, we get to learn a lot more about his character Karl in a standalone episode.

Karl is a guy who lives on his own. The type of guy who goes out on dates with a Leighton Meester type, but goes home all by himself.

Then one day he makes a mistake and he flees to Mexico to start a new life. On the way there, he meets our special guest star of the night and they share an unforgettable moment. When he settles in Mexico, he begins his new life. Just when he decides to change his ways, the virus happens. Now everyone around him is dead and he is living all by himself.

That is until Tandy (Will Forte) and Tood (Mel Rodriguez) find him. What happens next, we will have to wait until next week to find out.

What I am not telling you, is why I will never be able to look at Armisen the same way. Why? You will just have to tune in to find out. Not only for that but all because LMOE is a witty comedy with so much heart, it will leave you starting the work week off with a huge smile on your face. As long as you don’t hone in on the fact that it is post-apocalyptic show about a virus that wiped out almost everyone on Earth and the few survivors are trying to repopulate the world. Survivors who get to live out some of their fantasies because who is going to stop them? See a fell good way to end your Sunday nights.

The X-Files is smoking, 9-1-1 is thrilling and Grown-ish is bore-ish
January 3rd, 2018 under Fox, Freeform. [ Comments: none ]

The X-Files is back on Fox tonight at 8p for its 11th season and so is a fan favorite. The Smoking Man (William B. Davis) is back and he reveals so much. Opening the door to so many questions answered and several more asked. So so many reveals.

Then there is Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny), the latter will be rushed to the hospital and suffer from unusual brain activity. What is going on in her head? When she wakes up she will tell Mulder and it sets up the mythology for this season.

Thankfully, it is not all mythology because I prefer the standalone episodes. Like next week, when The Lone Gunman (Bruce Harwood and Dean Haglund) return from the dead with a message from beyond the grave for their old friends.

The best episode of the 5, they released to the press, is the fourth one. That is when a mysterious stranger seems to know intimate details about Scully and Mulder. This episode also teaches us about the Mandela effect. What that means, you just have to watch.

Finally in four weeks, the unthinkable happens. I will not tell you what, but I will tell you it is something fans of the show have been waiting for since the first run.

We can say that Will & Grace and other revivals got it right, but it was really The X-Files who perfected it leading to their returns. This season is as good as the first 10. Fans, like me, are not disappointed that this show has come back for 2 more seasons after it was cancelled 15 years ago.

Then at 9p on Fox, Ryan Murphy produces a show that is very unlike him. 9-1-1 is about the first responders doing their job after the 9-1-1 operator gets the call.

Abby Clark (Connie Britton) gets the calls that put all of the wheels in motion. She is the first person they speak to, and they first person they forget about. She does not see their lives being saved, instead she hears the click on the phone when help arrives. But that does not stop her from doing the best job possible, even with everything going on at her home.

Fire Captain Bobby Dash (Peter Krause) tries to keep his men and women in order, and that it not easy. Especially with people like Buck (Oliver Stark) who is an over eager newbie. He does what he wants and that can put the others at risk.

Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) is a field Sargent with the LAPD and she is one tough woman. She will do everything to get her suspect and her experience comes in helpful when trying to apprehend the bad guy.

On tonight’s series premiere, Abby gets a call from a young girl that there is an intruder in the house and she is all alone. To make matters ever worse, she just moved and does not know her address or her mom’s cell number. Abby calls Athena to help her, but she is helpless until they find out where the girl is located. Abby is able to get a better idea where the girl is when they ping the cell tower, but it is still not good enough. The women come up with a plan to get a better idea where she is located, but will they get to her in time.

We often thank the first responders when something awful happens, and this show gives us a glimpse of how all the agencies work together to save the day. 9-1-1 is a rush of adrenaline because it covers so much in so little time. Kind of like the life of a first responder.

I will openly admit, I went into Grown-ish already hating it because Freeform cancelled Baby Daddy over it. But I gave the show that premieres tonight at 8p a chance.

The Black-ish spinoff uses a technique that the original show uses, but on this one it is does not work. You know how Anthony Anderson narrates parts of Black-ish to help you understand what he is thinking and it helps move the show forward? On Grown-ish, you are like STFU Yara Shahidi. She keeps talking about everyone and everything instead of just letting them be. To the point, I do not know who anyone is and I do not care. Plus, she is such a whiner that it makes it hard for you to like Zoey. That was even when she was doing Black-ish. To me the twins and Junior are the more interesting children.

When it comes to the rest of the show, it is about Freshmen trying to survive on the own for the first time. If the show concentrates on all of them instead of just Zoey, it might work. The show is centered around her, but it does not have to be all about her. Until it is not, I do not know how long this show can last. I am sure they will do everything to make it a hit, but at this point it will fail out pretty quickly.

Freeform needs to stay with their strengths when it comes to comedies. Over the top multicams with very funny casts. Not a half-hour dramedy without an identity. It is trying to hard to keep the Black-ish formula, instead of trying to be its own voice.

On a positive note, it is not Freeform’s worst comedy. Alone Together is one of the worst shows ever made. It is so painfully bad, I cannot believe anyone let them make it. It makes people hate Millennials even more than they already do.
