Ramy Youssef received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and for Directing for a Comedy Series, and sadly he lost both to Schitt’s Creek last night. We saw what happened when Eugene Levy, Andrew Cividino, and Dan Levy won, but we didn’t see what happened when Youssef lost.
The comedian showed us what happens when you lose during a pandemic, and the award show is being done virtually. There is a person in a hazmat suit outside your house waiting to give you the gold statuette. Then when your name is not called, they go away.
As the host of TV’s big night said, “No one goes home empty-handed, they are already home.”
I would not know whether to laugh or cry when the award holder left. Thankfully, Ramy laughed like we laugh with his show that I have never seen. Just like I didn’t see the Emmys.
Let’s be honest, Tyler Perry is never going to get an Emmy for his acting, writing, or producing. Yet, he is getting one. For what? He, along with his foundation, “will receive the 2020 Governors Award in recognition of their unparalleled contributions to shaping the television medium,” on September 20th.
“I’m grateful for and humbled by this recognition from the Television Academy,” said Perry. “I’ve always prided myself on the work we do at the studio, our diverse representation of people from all walks of life, and the community we’ve built. My hope is that through moments like this we can remind others of the power of ownership and show that when the world doesn’t offer you a seat at the table, you can build your own.”
If any celebrity deserves it, it is him. Even before the pandemic, he would buy things for strangers all over Atlanta. He was the first one to give Cosby actor Geoffrey Owens a job on one of his shows after we found out he worked at Trader Joe’s. Then when COVID-19, the entertainment mogul made sure his shows were able to get back to work and get back to it safely.
Perry has a heart of gold and deserves to be recognized for it. At least the Television Academy got something right this year.
The Emmys sent out a letter to the nominees telling them that this year’s event will be virtual according to Variety. As if anyone thought the Emmys were going to go on as is like they have in the past during the coronavirus pandemic.
Anyways, in the letter, they tell them they are going to bring the cameras to them on September 20th. They can dress up to the nines, or they can wear PJs. They can go live from their house or somewhere else. They don’t have to worry about looking good because they will handle that too. All they have to do is prepare to go live when it comes time for them to accept their award.
That makes me wonder if they are going to do that for all of the nominees or just the winners? I think it sucks to be the latter. Imagine you are waiting for the call that they are going to set up at your location, and they never show. At least, they will know they lost ahead of time, unlike Jimmy Kimmel who still has to host even though he will lose again. Awkward.
Seriously, I really feel bad for the losers who don’t get the 5-star treatment. When it comes to the ones, who will get the treatment and lose, at lease they can shut the feed off and drown their sorrows in wine and ice cream immediately. They don’t have to sit there in their clothes that are too tight and cry on the inside. They can cry in their homes with their loved ones. Unless they don’t have anyone else like Jennifer Aniston and have to cry all by themselves. Now, I am actually sad for her. Over it.
Just like I am over this year’s Emmys that completely ignored Amazon’s Hunters and NBC’s Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt were both nominated for Emmys today. She was nominated for The Morning Show, and got one for playing Dr. Anthony Fauci on Saturday Night Live.
Since they won’t be able to have another red carpet reunion (due to the coronavirus pandemic) as they did at the SAG Awards, I think they should watch it from one of their homes together. Could you imagine how everyone would go crazy over that? At least something would make TV’s biggest night worth watching.
If he is not up for it, then the Friends should all watch it together at the Friends’ set on the Warner Bros lot.
Isn’t everything about Jennifer Aniston and her reunions? Who will she reunite with on September 20th? Tune in to see. We know it won’t be her TMS co-star Reese Witherspoon, who was a three time loser today. Three chances and no nomination to call her own. I guess the Emmy voters don’t know who she is.
UPDATE:Jennifer Aniston made a funny when she reacted to her nomination. The actress wrote, “Verified
What a morning waking up to this news! I am so proud of my @themorningshow family. This team worked so, so hard to make the best show we possibly could, and I am truly honored to be a part of it. Thanks for this acknowledgment and congratulations to EVERYONE 👏🏼 🥳⠀

“Now, I’m just gonna have to figure out what MASK I’M GONNA WEAR 😷🤔💃🏼!!”
I wonder if she hired Brad Pitt’s people to give her a sense of humor so she can win the award?
Dylan McDermott received an Emmy nomination for his work in Netflix’s Hollywood today. The second time he has been nominated for one. The last time he got the honor was in 1999 for The Practice.
After a 21 year drought, you would think he would be excited about it. And you would be right. He was so happy, he did a dance. Not one that would win an Emmy, but it definitely won our hearts.
I am rooting for him because I thought he gave an Emmy worthy performance for the work he did on the period drama. Then again, I thought that he and Dermott Mulroney deserved it for LA to Vegas.
