Over the last few decades, superhero movies and shows have gotten darker and darker. That is about to change with Shazam when it comes out on April 5th. This film is making them fun again. A trend that I hope continues because I am tired of all of the doom and gloom. Superheroes are supposed to give us hope, not despair.
The third episode of Doom Patrol is up on DC Universe and it is a positive one. I say that because we get Negative Man’s back story. We find out what Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer) was like before he was taken over by negative energy and what it was like when it ruined his life.
Before we get to that, Doom Patrol gets a tip that Chief (Timothy Dalton) is in Paraguay. Therefore, Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), Elasti-Girl (April Bowlby), Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Cyborg (Joivan Wade) and Negative Man get on the school bus and embark on a road trip. As we remember, the last time they went on one, a whole city was destroyed and its inhabitants died. Will this trip go better?
This time, it is them in trouble after the negative energy gets out of Trainor and causes their bus to break down. That is when his back story starts the night before that fateful fight. He is in the back of his truck making out with his lover (Kyle Clements) and he gives Trainor an ultimatum. Trainor doesn’t take it and goes back to his wife (Julie McNiven) and sons.
Then as the episode goes on, we find out what happened after his plane crashed leaving him severely burned all over his body. We see how after being left with disfiguring burns changed him and made him the Negative Man he became
Back to our Patrol, they finally make it to Paraguay and Nazi man’s puppet show. Is Chief there? What happens when they confront him? You do not want to miss it.
I went from watching Matt Bomer on Will & Grace to him in this episode, and how he has not gotten an Emmy is beyond me. He can so effortlessly go from comedy to drama, it leaves me in awe as I watch him. Very few actors can do it as well as him.
Plus, I enjoy everyone else on this show. I love watching superheroes curse and not be perfect. That is why I get such a kick out Doom Patrol. You can tell they are having as much fun making it as we do watching it.
I have to start off by saying I am so over comic book shows and movies. Because of that, I was thinking of skipping Doom Patrol. Then I saw some reviews about the show that is on DC Universe, and I am like I so have to check this out. As soon as I heard some cursing and saw a sex scene, I knew this was the superhero show I was going to love. And I do.
The first episode was posted last week, so I am late to the game. Since it is a streaming site, you can watch the first two episodes now. It is the type of show you want to watch after a long work week or actually anytime.
The series starts off with Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser) a married race car driver with a kid who is sleeping with the maid. Not exactly perfect, far from it. He gets into a car crash and his brain is put into a robot making him Robotman.
Niles Caulder (Dalton, Timothy Dalton), also known as The Chief, is a top medical scientist who gives hopeless people “a miracle”. He also protects them from themselves and the outside world by keeping them in his house at a remote location.
Back to Cliff, he is the newest member of The Chief’s home, even though he has been there for years. The Chief needs to get him used to his new body which is very stiff. He will not be able to do it alone, so he will need help from his other residents.
Rita Farr (April Bowlby) is an actress from the ’50s. She had an accident on set that turns her into Elasti-Woman because she can stretch her body. Because she was an act-tress, she is so over her new home and the people in it.
Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer) was a dashing pilot living a double life. He wanted to hide from his troubles so he went flying as much as possible. One day he flies into negative energy and his plane crashes. He survives, but his whole body suffered catastrophic burns. Not only that, he now shoots out energy from his chest which is why we call the man covered in bandages Negative Man.
Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) got her name because she lives up to it. She has 64 different personalities and each comes with its own ability. You know never know who she is going to be so it would be wise to watch what you say around.
Robotman and her hit it off even though she says some pretty awful sh!t to him. Actually, they all hit it off. So swell, that they decide to leave their compound and go into town. It starts off innocent enough until one of them loses their control and the town is pretty much destroyed. Proving to them they should stay home.
Which catches us up to the second episode. They are in what is left in town and one of them goes missing. Luckily, we get a new member to join their patrol just in time. Victor Stone (Joivan Wade) was doing an experiment when something goes horribly wrong. The explosion kills his mom and half of him. You see Cyborg is now half human and half machine.
He is not like the others and he will inspire them to be more than what they are. Activating the Doom Patrol in ways they have never be activated before. Is that a good thing? We will find out every Friday.
This is kind of the Deadpool of group superheroes. Yes I know he is Marvel and they are DC, but it is the best comparison I can come up with. Don’t get at mad me. Be happy I at least I knew they were from two different universes. That is good for me.
Back to Doom Patrol, as you can tell this is unlike everything else in the genre. Which is great because it so needed a changeup. Therefore, if you are looking for something fun to watch, look no further than this show. So look it up now!
Jimmy Fallon challenged Jason Momoa to a trident throwing contest on The Tonight Show
yesterday and the game took an unexpected turn. The two men basically played darts with an Aquaman as a dart board and tridents for darts.
While they got as many tridents to stick to the board as they didn’t. The three that did stick, all landed on the guy’s crotch. Which makes you wonder what they have against the jewels of the sea. Especially, since they both are men. You would think they would avoid that area like the plague.
Back in 1990, John Wesley Shipp starred in a show called The Flash and played the lead Barry Allen. Twenty-four years later, he joined a show called The Flash, but he was not playing Barry Allen this time. Instead, he plays his father. That meant we would never see him in his Flash costume again.
Or so we thought…
Today, Stephen Amell aka Arrow shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the filming of the Arrowverse: Elseworlds crossover event and there is not one but two Flashes. Although Amell is dressed in the red suit and Grant Gustin is in the black one or basically, they switched secret identities. Why and how all of this is possible, we do not know.
Therefore, we will just have to watch the crossover event that starts with The Flash on December 9th, continues the next night with Arrow and concludes the following night with Supergirl. I do not know about you, but this one photo has me psyched for this super three-night affair.
