Dr Phil was a guest on The Late Show on Friday and he basically gave David Letterman a therapy session on the show for free. Although I am not sure the CBS host was all that pleased with the daytime talk show host’s assessment of him. Oprah’s prodigy got Letterman to curse at him a few times (and it was deserved), admit on the air that he goes to therapy and he’s on antidepressants, but the saddest part came when Dr Phil told him his “life is pretty much over.” Granted it made sense why he said it, it still isn’t something you want to hear.
Now it might sound like this was a pretty deep interview with no laughs, shockingly there were a lot and you will want to watch the session to make you feel better when you go to yours after you see your family on Thursday.
Anderson Cooper was on The Late Show on Friday and David Letterman actually asked him if he has Gaydar. At first the CNN host joked that it was going off with Dave, but then he seriously answered the question.
When I watched that clip, I was like that is why Anderson wasn’t open about his sexuality until recently. Then I saw the first clip and I was like he opened up the can of worms earlier on during the interview. But still such a weird question.
Ricky Gervais was on The Late Show yesterday and David Letterman asked him to pick a question out of the Question of the Night cards. The man who gave us The Invention of Lying couldn’t tell a lie when the CBS late night put that offer on the table; and he said to him “You’ve just given up, haven’t you?” Letterman responded with a huge laugh and you know what they say about that? Their is truth in humor! Joking, he is still in it to win it…from Jay Leno!
To be honest the reason why I posted this video is because Ricky’s giggling is so infectious and on a day like today (Election Day in The US) we all need to laugh as hard as we can as much as possible.
Yesterday David Letterman had some kids stop by The Late Show set to go Trick or Treating and they definitely had on some interesting costumes that you have never seen before and never will again. Kids will go as almost anything on Halloween, but I am not sure how many of them are lining to dress up like what the children wore on the CBS late night show. Now even though they wouldn’t wear those disguises, I would totally dress my kids up as some them!
Which was your favorite? I loved the one with the two little girls towards the end!
As I reported The Late Show ain’t going to let a thing like Hurricane Sandy stop them from broadcasting tonight, so the CBS late night talk show is doing the hour without an audience. Here is a preview of what it is like for David Letterman to do his monologue without an audience and more importantly without any laughter. Plus CBS also released a clip of Denzel Washington appearing as a guest on the show at 11:35p. It is so weird to have a guest come out without any applause. I don’t think anyone especially them could imagine the difference. But they didn’t let the silence ruin their enthusiasm and they went on as though all of those seats were filled.
I respect The Late Show staff for going on with the show and not letting Mother Nature ruin their day. But I respect them more for putting the audience’s safety before the show’s needs.
Now I pray that everyone who works on the show either gets home safely or finds a safe place to wait out this Frankenstorm.
Since The Late Show with David Letterman did the show for us, let’s do something for them and watch it tonight on CBS at 11:35p. I am DVRing on all my TVs and I will stay up to watch it live to give it as many viewers at possible. Especially because they are losing a big chunk of viewers thanks to the power outages due to the storm.
UPDATE: David Letterman wasn’t the only one who did his show without an audience, Jimmy Fallon did the same with Late Night that airs on NBC at 12:37a. He did a cold open which was more like a windy one because he braved Hurricane Sandy for the opening. Then he went inside and did his monologue for the staff members that were sitting where the audience would’ve been. Have to say it is a completely different feel than the normal monologue and because of that it turned out really cool.
And just like the staff of The Late Show, I respect the Late Night staff for doing the show and putting the audience’s safety above the show’s.
