Let’s be honest, 2020 has sucked balls. And I am not talking cheese balls type of suck, worse than that. I don’t know what that means either.
Anyways, Rick Astley was going for a walk with his wife, Lene Bausager, and he decided that we needed a happy song to end the year. Therefore, he went into his studio, wrote a few songs, and finally decided to record Love This Christmas. Today, he released the holiday tune that we are going to sing this year and for many more to come. That is if we can make it to 2021.
How can you listen to this single and not feel the spirit of the season take over you? I am ready to decorate the house with tinsel, colorful lights, and mistletoe that won’t see any action again this year.
Seriously, Astley is like the feeling you get on Christmas morning when you go to the tree to open up all of your presents. He is pure joy. Now, we can box that feeling up with this happy melody.
Chris Stapleton has two new albums coming out this holiday season. Tomorrow, he is releasing Starting Over, and coming soon we are going to get A Very COVID Christmas.
The Country singer rewrote some of the holiday’s biggest Carols for 2020, and gave us a sample of the CD on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday. There are tunes like Oh CDC, Coughing Around the Christmas Tree, Grandma Got Corona From a Reindeer and so many more. It won’t be a timeless classic, but it will be one for the next few years.
Grab your immediate family in the house, get some Egg Nog heavy on the Rum, and sing his songs with them around the plastic tree. Since they are the only people you are going to see on December 25th!
I wish you a merry COVIDmas. I wish you a very COVIDmas. I wish you very COVIDmas. And a happy flu year.
Let’s be honest; every year, we find ourselves watching those cheesy Christmas movies on Lifetime. Hallmark, Up, Tubi TV, Netflix, and so on. We all know the formula, but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying them. Don’t you wish that someone would make a movie making fun of all of those holiday films?
On November 6th, our Christmas wish is coming true with Cup of Cheer. The film is about, “Mary, a big city journalist who heads off to her charming hometown of Snowy Heights to write an article about the town’s world famous Christmas cheer. But upon (literally) running into the grumpy but endearing Chris, the owner of Cup of Cheer, Mary learns that his charming hot cocoa shop is going to be shut down on Christmas Eve. And it’s her ex boyfriend that’s shutting it down. Using her big city smarts and her Christmas cheer, Mary unites the town in an effort to save Cup of Cheer, and to save Christmas.”
Seriously, the only thing it is missing is a Prince, and they would have everything covered. Maybe that will be in the sequel?
While Donald Trump is talking about canceling the holidays, we are getting some much-needed joy added to ours! See 2020 is not all bah humbug.
The must-see movie of the holiday will be available on DVD as well on digital, so it will be a great stocking stuffer. Better than the coal and fruit cake I normally give all my loved ones.
Cup of Cheer stars Steve Kasan, Shawn Vincent, Adam Jenner, Liam Marshall, Storm Steenson, and Alexander Oliver, and written by Jake Horowitz and Andy Lewis.
UPDATE: There is a Prince in Cup of Cheer. That means as they said on their Twitter page to me, “I guess we really do have everything now.” They really do! It is a real Christmas miracle.
Back in August, Dolly Parton announced that she is releasing a Christmas album with original songs and her take on some classics. Today, A Holly Dolly Christmas came out, and I got to hear the song I have been anticipating the most. The legendary Country singer sings a duet of Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas with Jimmy Fallon.
I knew we were going to experience Christmas joy in October because of the tune. I just didn’t know how much joy it was going to bring me. I can’t stop smiling after listening to their cover. How can you not feel happy after listening to them get playful with each other as they harmonize one of the holiday’s favorite singles?
I am off to listen to the rest of the album because this is what 2020 needs. That and as Conan O’Brien said, we might not make it to December 25th.
Even though the Goo Goo Dolls have been around for almost 25 years and recorded 12 studio albums, they have never released a holiday one. That is, until this year.
On October 30th, the band will be releasing It’s Christmas All Over. The CD features several classic holiday tunes along with two original songs.
Why now? They say, ” the album promises to deliver a much-needed warmth and hope to 2020.” There is something about their music, that makes me feel calm and happy. John Rzeznik’s voice is calming, and that is something we all need now as we continue to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
On that note, the record was recorded during the lockdown.
Christmas will be a lot cheerier this year because so many artists are releasing holiday albums like Dolly Parton or virtual holiday concerts like Josh Groban.
