Syfy announced today that Resident Alien will debut its second season on January 26th at 9p. Along with the season premiere, it is going to be joined by the new series Astrid and Lilly Save the World at 10p. Together the combo is creating a Wednesday night of must-watch TV.
Resident Alien is a huge hit, and people are loving the unlovable alien that is played by Alan Tudyk. I want to tell you more about the program, but it is something you have to experience blindly. All I will tell you is that you are going to love it and laugh a lot at things you shouldn’t. So, if you haven’t seen it, then watch the first season on Syfy.com, the app, and OnDemand.
Then at 10p, we get to meet Astrid and Lilly, two high school BFFs who aren’t very popular. After they go to a party and get humiliated, they do a spell that opens a portal that sets things in motion for the apocalypse. Now, they have to fight evil forces to save the World. Can they do it?
We spent the last few years dealing with an evil President who wanted to end the World and a pandemic that made it seem like a reality. So watching two shows that are about the end of the World seems fitting.
Tonight at 10p, you are going to fall in love with Resident Alien on Syfy. There is a new doctor in Patience, Colorado, and he is alien to their ways. I mean, he is an alien.
A few months ago, Captain Hah Re (Alan Tudyk) crashed down onto Earth, and he took on the body of Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle. Now, he is stuck here because he lost the device he needs to complete his mission.
The doctor recently moved to the small town and remained a hermit in his cabin. Therefore, no one noticed that the alien killed him and took over his body. However, when the town doctor is murdered, they come to Vanderspeigle to find out what happened. Now, not only does he have to pretend to be human, but he also has to pretend to be a doctor. Good thing he watched all of those Law & Order marathons. Will they be enough to convince the town that he is the man whose skin he is in?
Sara Tomko (Asta Twelvetrees) was the doctor’s nurse. She can sense there is something off with the new doctor, but she likes him and his quirky ways. Like him, she never felt like she belonged in her small town. Therefore, she is always there to back him up. Something that he is going to need quite often because Law & Order didn’t prepare him for interacting with humans.
There is one human he cannot interact with, and that is Max (Judah Prehn). He is an 8-year-old boy who can see that Vanderspeigle is an alien. He tries to tell everyone the truth, including his father, the Mayor (Levi Fiehler), but no one believes him.
Even the town Sheriff (Corey Reynolds) thinks the kid is lying. However, he doesn’t like the new resident. Then again, he doesn’t like anyone. He is one of those smalltown sheriffs that is really tough and loves being in charge. Thankfully Deputy Liv Baker (Elizabeth Bowen) is the opposite of him.
Vanderspeigle is going to need all the help he can get to fit in with all of these humans. Fitting in is something that is going to be hard for him. That is until he tries some alcohol. Drunk Vanderspeigle is the best thing.
Actually, everything is the best thing when you watch him trying to adapt to our ways. Tudyk is just so endearing as he plays this alien whose mission is to destroy Earth, but he cannot let the Earthlings know that. He is a douchebag, but a lovable douchebag.
Will the douchebag have a change of heart the more he interacts with humans? Will they rub off of him, or will they convince him he is doing the right thing?
Most Sci-Fi shows lose their likability after the pilot, not Resident Alien. It gets more and more delightful with each episode. It is unlike anything else on television, and boy do we need it.
I am enjoying this show so much; I am going to declare that it is the best new show of the season. Nothing even comes close to it.
Before Alan Tudyk was an alien trapped on Earth in Resident Alien, he was a patient trapped in a hospital in Patch Adams. He looks the same now as he did when he was 26 in that 1998 movie.
The season finale of Doom Patrol is streaming on DC Universe now and everything has been leading up to this moment.
Last week, when we left off, The Doom Patrol left the Chief (Timothy Dalton) after he told them that he created them. Since then they have gone their separate ways. Rita (April Bowlby) and Negative Man (Matt Bomer) are living together. She is teaching acting to students. While he is seeing how long he can handle having the negative energy outside of his body. Jane (Diane Guerrero) is on her own, but she is secretly getting help from Robotman (Brendan Fraser), who is watching over her. Finally, Cyborg (Joivan Wade) is back with his dad.
While we watch them survive by themselves, we see how The Chief created them in flashbacks. It is not going to be easy to watch Vic become Cyborg.
Then they are all going to hear a song nonstop (not going to tell you which one it is, but it is an earworm) that is going to bring them back together. The Chief asks them for a favor, but why would they help him? After all, he destroyed all of their lives. Eventually, they will have to give in because Mr. Nobody (Alan Tudyk) is planning to destroy them all. He will have a little help from a gigantic rat and a colossal cockroach (Curtis Armstrong)! Which is my nightmare so I will not be sleeping tonight.
It is going to be an epic battle and maybe not every one of our heroes is going to make it to season 2. Which they better get because this is the best superhero show on television. Tell me what other show has a mass orgasm, an openly gay character, lots of sex and cursing, and doing other things no show in the genre would dream of doing, Well they dream of doing it, they just can’t.
That is what makes DC Universe a must have app, they can be as bad as they want to be. Next week, they introduce us to Swamp Thing. I am one episode in and I am already loving it.
I just want to add, it was nice that Tudyk finally got an episode of his own. You can tell he has been having fun all season, but in this episode, he really went for it. Which is why he is a hidden comedic treasure.
Alan Tudyk shared a photo of his friend and Firefly costar Nathan Fillion without any hair on the top of his head, so has TV’s mystery writer given us a mystery to solve? In other words, has Castle been wigging it along? Yes, but only on Tudyk’s Syfy show ConMan that you should totally be watching on their app because it is hilarious.
Now back to Fillion and his hair, it is just as luxurious as ever. Don’t believe me, then click here!
