9-1-1 was picked up for another season, but…
May 1st, 2023 under ABC, Fox, Ryan Murphy. [ Comments: none ]

The good news is that 9-1-1 will be back next season. The bad news, it won’t be on Fox.

What? It’s Fox’s #1 show. But, like many aging series, it just got too expensive going into its 7th season. And they didn’t own it.

So who owns it? 20th Television, which is owned by Disney, which owns ABC. So the first responders drama that stars Angela Bassett and Peter Krause is moving over to ABC.

“Thanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, ‘9-1-1’ has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep ‘9-1-1’ in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.”

Shocking but understandable. It will be interesting to see how things will change on its new network. Hopefully, there won’t be too many.

I have a feeling that today’s pickup put all of ABC’s bubble shows in more trouble than they were in yesterday. So The Conners, which is in season 5 with a large cast, might not see a 6th one. I am also not sure if ABC will stick with The Rookie: Feds. Hopefully, because it is a freshman series, they will give it a sophomore season.

9-1-1 joins Station 19, The Rookie, Will Trent, The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy, and Abbott Elementary on the 2023-2024 schedule.

Back to Fox. The news isn’t all bad. They renewed 9-1-1: Lonestar for a 5th season. So I guess there won’t be any more crossovers for the 9-1-1’s

ABC didn’t pull the plug on The Good Doctor

ABC is going on a renewal frenzy this week. First, they picked up The Rookie for a sixth season. Then, they gave Will Trent a second one. And today, the network told The Good Doctor that it will be around for a seventh season.

The three shows join Grey’s Anatomy and Abbott Elementary.

Still waiting to find out if they will be on ABC’s 2023-2024 schedule are The Rookie’s and The Good Doctor’s spinoffs. I hope that if ABC has to choose one, they go with The Rookie: Feds over The Good Lawyer. The only way I will watch the latter is if they get rid of Felicity Huffman. After watching the backdoor pilot, I learned I am not ready to accept her again after the college scandal. And it is all about me and what I want.

Will Trent is still on ABC’s case!
April 19th, 2023 under ABC. [ Comments: none ]

ABC has been pretty quiet on the renewal front, but they are breaking their silence. Abbott Elementary was picked up a while ago, as was Grey’s Anatomy. But then this week, they said they were sticking with The Rookie. And yesterday, ABC announced that Will Trent. will be back for a second season.

“It’s official!! Will Trent renewed for Season Two!! 🎉🎉,” the show’s star Ramón Rodríguez said. “Thank you to all the fans for your continued support of this special show! Thrilled and honored to continue to put on that three piece suit and thanks to our amazing cast, crew, writers, producers, directors and everyone involved for helping make this show what it is!! Thank you @karinslaughterauthor for creating this great book series. Betty… get ready!🕵️‍♂️🐕”

The procedural follows Will Trent (Rodríguez), a GBI detective with a knack for solving cases. Even though he doesn’t like having a partner, his boss (Sonja Sohn) assigns him to work with Faith (Iantha Richardson). This pairing should have every criminal in Georgia afraid because they are unstoppable.

And if they are not arresting you, then Trent’s girlfriend (Erika Christensen) and her partner (Jake McLaughlin), who are detectives with the police force will do it.

Trent and his girlfriend go back to their abusive days in foster care. Their bond is unbreakable, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get tested all of the time.

And I should mention that the true star of the series is Betty, a toy chihuahua that wins over everyone’s heart!

Now that the show is back for another season, I hope they sneak in an episode based on Cocaine Bear because the GBI investigated that case.

If you are not watching, you are missing out on the best new procedural of the year. This is the only show I have watched when I donate platelets. That means it gets my full attention because I don’t want to miss a single clue.

The Rookie is still on ABC’s beat
April 17th, 2023 under ABC, Nathan Fillion. [ Comments: none ]

ABC announced today that The Rookie will be back for a sixth season.

The renewal is not a surprise because it does well on any night they put it on. That and after reading the synopsis for the season finale on May 2nd, it sounds like they are ending with a cliffhanger.

After one of their own is shot, the team suffers a series of close calls and realizes their division may be a target for a group of masked assailants. Whose life/lives do you think will be in danger? Is it wrong I am rooting for Jenna Dewan’s character to die?

The Nathan Fillion starrer will join Abbott Elementary and Grey’s Anatomy on ABC’s 2023-2024 schedule.
