Last season, not even a handful of shows were cancelled cancelled, so this time around, we don’t know what the Big 5 will do. Today, we found out that ABC has cut the episode order count of its midseason replacement show Imaginary Mary. The Jenna Elfman comedy was picked up for 13 episodes, and now they only want 9.
As much as I adore Adam Golberg’s shows, I was not looking forward to this one. In fact, I had forgotten about it until this news.
When it comes to which show that has already aired will be the first one to go 13 or less, I say that title will go to no no Notorious or Pitch, but I am rooting for the first because the latter one is so inspirational.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0wLCGwYZ3g Pitch swings and hits a homer tonight at 9p on Fox. The heartwarming drama is about the first female player who makes it up to the big leagues. If you think about, it looks like we have the first female President before we have a woman in the majors. Who would’ve thought? Both don’t seem like a reality, but Pitch makes it seem like it can be one.
Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury) is called up to the Big Leagues after many years in the Minors. There is so much attention surrounding her pitching debut, but can the first MLB female player live up to the hype, and survive the pressure. Her publicist is on her side as is some of her teammates and bosses, but then there are those that think she is just a gimmick. Is she? You will have to watch to find out. Pitch is a show that every parent needs to watch with his little girl so that she can learn she can be whatever she wants! That and it is one of the few dramas you can watch as a family.

I watched Notorious a few months ago, and I didn’t like it. I am opting not to watch it again because I disliked it that much.
If it was just about a News Producer (Piper Perabo) and a Lawyer (Daniel Sunjata), who are breaking news stories, because of their friendship; then fine. But then there is a case that develops during the episode and it doesn’t keep my interest because it is one we have seen before, so not fine.
That and I am not one of the people who drinks the Shonda Rhimes Kool-Aid, so it is not like I feel like I have to watch the meat in her sandwich.
I saved Speechless for one of the last pilots to watch because I thought I was going to hate it. They say you save the best for last, and turns out I did with the comedy that debuts tonight at 8:30p on ABC.
Maya DiMeo (Minnie Driver) will do anything for her kids especially her son JJ (Micah Fowler) who has Cerebral Palsy. She has moved her family around so that he can get the best education possible and she has built herself her a reputation for not taking any sh!t from anyone. Which is great for him, but not as much for other son Ray (Mason Cook) who has finally made some friends and fallen in love for the first time.
Since Maya found a school that will give JJ a voice, as in a person who will read his personal computer, she picks the family up and moves again. A voice JJ can’t stand because she is so cheery and sweet, the opposite of his mom. And his new voice isn’t exactly OK with their ways either.
Things are looking like Ray will get his way, and he gets some encouragement from his dad (John Ross Bowie) that he will try to work with him to keep his old life alive. How long will that last? Will he like his new school? Will JJ get a new voice? That one I will answer, he does and it is with the hysterical Cedric Yarbrough.
I don’t think I can sum this up brilliantly enough, so what I will say is that is loved this show so much, I re-watched it immediately after my first viewing. It is that good! Thus, you will want to DVR it, so you can watch the feel good comedy again and again!

While Speechless was the last pilot I watched, Designated Survivor was the first. The show that debuts at 10p, set the bar so high no other show even came close to the excellence of this one.
Kiefer Sutherland plays a Cabinet Member, who is fired just hours before the State of the Union. As a departing gift, he becomes the go to Designated Survivor in case anything were to happen while everyone who is anyone in DC all die at the same time. As he is watching the speech on live television, the screen go to hash and people come running into the room. He opens the blinds to see the Capitol engulfed in fire. It is then that he realize he is the next President of the United States. Now, he has to convince the survivors that he is up for the job, something they are not on board with.
Out of all of the new shows, this is the only on where you can see where it is going and you can’t wait to see what happens next. At least I know that is how I fell and I have been waiting months for the next move.
Talking about moves, Kal Penn has scene in the premiere with an expression that is so spot on, you will applaud him. Granted he is an actor turned White House employee who is now an actor playing an White House employee, so how much of a stretch is it for him.

As soon as ABC and Paul Lee parted ways, you knew that Mistresses was cancelled because he was the only one who was fan of the British remake. Due to the fact, the former ABC Entertainment President had already picked it up for the 4th season, they decided to air it. Now that that season is over, so is the show. Which comes as no surprise because it was never a ratings hit. Not even close to getting to the altar on that one.
Meanwhile, FX cancelled another show this week (Tyrant was first) that hasn’t gotten any nominations and that show is Denis Leary’s Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. While I loved the bitchin’ comedy’s first season, the second one lost its way. It was more about their loves life than Rock’n’Roll and that is what made the show so much fun to watch. Oh well, Leary will be back with something soon and it will be f*cking awesome. What he really needs to do is something on Netflix because he needs the freedom to be who he is and that is bad a$$ cursing MoFo!
The cast of Fresh Off the Boat is in Taiwan filming the season premiere, and Hudson Yang tried out some of the local cuisines while he was there. One of those places is a restaurant called Modern Toilet where patrons sit on toilets, get their poop shaped ice cream served to them in a ceramic looking potties and he couldn’t look happier.
I guess when in Taiwan, do what the Taiwanese would do! No matter how crappy it is.
Which is the exact opposite of the ABC sitcom. I can’t wait for ’90s era comedy to come back already and see Yang as Huang on October 11th.
