Earlier this month, Pat Sajak announced that he was retiring as the host of Wheel of Fortune after 41 seasons. And today, the game show revealed who will be replacing him.
Drumroll, please…It is Ryan Seacrest.
He said: “I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak. I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them. Pat, I love the way you’ve always celebrated the contestants’ and made viewers at home feel at ease.
“I look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition. Many people probably don’t know this but one of my first jobs was hosting a little game show called ‘Click’ for Mery Griffin 25 years ago so this is truly a full circle moment for me and I’m grateful to Sony for the opportunity.
“I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White.”
On his last note, I hope they keep Vanna because she is the heart of the show. And they better give her a big fat raise because she is going to need it.
I think his hiring is a mistake. He is going to be as popular as Mayim Bialik is as the host of Jeopardy. I don’t know why they rushed to give him the job when they have a year to name somebody, anybody else.
Whoopi Goldberg and Andy Cohen said it would be their dream job. And one of them would’ve been better.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they went with him because he is safe, and they know what they are going to get with him.
The problem with Ryan as a game show host is that he isn’t quick-witted and is no longer a lay people person. I don’t think he will be good with the contestants. He is too fake after over 20 years in the spotlight.
But he could surprise me. But I doubt it.
Wheel of Fortune had a chance to do something exciting, but instead, they went with an overexposed name because they are afraid to rock the boat.
Who knows, maybe we will get lucky, and he won’t wind up being the host of the show like that guy who was originally going to host Jeopardy before they gave the job to Ken Jennings and Mayim.
