Back when Morgan Cooper released a dramatic short of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, I was intrigued. Then when Peacock picked it up as a series, I couldn’t wait to see what they were going to do with Bel-Air. What the producers did, is give us a show that is so amazing; you will be like, how did this come from the sitcom we know so well?
Well, I actually, I don’t know it that well. I didn’t really watch it, but I know enough. Therefore, it was interesting to see how they changed it up and how they kept it the same.
Will (Jabari Banks) is a good student and star athlete in Philadelphia who is about to get recruited to college. He has everything until he gets arrested with a gun during a fight. His mom doesn’t want him going into a life of crime, so she sends him to Bel-Air to live with her estranged sister and her family.
When Will gets there, he meets his Aunt Viv (Cassandra Freeman), and she welcomes her nephew with open arms. The same cannot be said for his cousin Carlton (Olly Sholotan). Thankfully, his girl cousins, Hillary (Coco Jones) and Ashley (Akira Akbar), love their cousin, Will. Phillip Banks (Adrian Holmes) is a little standoffish about his nephew, but he knows he is doing the right thing by taking him in.
Uncle Phil is running for District Attorney, and all of his energy is focused on that. He doesn’t want Will ruining his chances of getting elected. However, he might be able to help. Uncle Phil is not getting support from people of color because he is out of touch with their needs in his multi-dollar mansion. Will is just what he needs to win them over.
Aunt Viv gave up her dream of being an artist to raise her three children. However, now, she is all about being the perfect politician’s wife and trying to get her husband elected.
Hillary is an online influencer, so she is living in front of the camera all of the time. Her parents want the college dropout to get a job. Since she is a popular influencer, that shouldn’t be that hard. Or is it? Not only is she good at telling people she doesn’t know what to do, but she is also able to do that with the family. She is the wise one who is keeping them all together. Her character is the most improved.
Carlton is the popular one at school, and he hates that his cousin has moved in on his territory. Not only in his house but also on his ex-girlfriend Lisa (Simone Joy Jones). Carlton gets so mad when he sees them talking he gets into a fight with his cousin, and that is the beginning of their war. And Uncle Phil is not going to have it, but even he can’t get these two to get along.
And then the biggest character difference goes to Geoffrey (Jimmy Akingbola). I am not going to tell you how, but I love what they did to him.
I also like the changes they made to the Will/Carlton dynamic. It gets more interesting as the show goes on. This is not Alfonso Ribeiro’s Carlton. He is dark. And I have said too much.
What I will say, is that this is not your parents’ Fresh Prince. Not only did they turn it into a drama, but they modernized it. What Will went through in the ’90s is not the same as today. So they updated everyone’s storyline but still kept that premise of the original. So it is loyal but fitting for today’s audience. Because of that, new and old fans are going to be hooked.
Peacock needs this to do well, and it is going to do just that. People are going to love the series, and they are going to want to stream new episodes every Thursday. In fact, they are going to hate having to wait a week to find out what happened next.
I have seen six of the ten episodes, and I am blown away by what they did. You can stream the first three episodes on Peacock now, and I promise you will love it as much as I do.
It is not only because of the storylines, but every actor brings it. It doesn’t even feel like they are acting. They feel like a family who are perfect on the outside but are far from it on the inside.
Bel-Air is the first remake to get it right. It is the same and different at the same time. It is everything you want it to be.
Well, it is just missing that theme song, but it has everything else.
Tubi is getting into the RomCom business with 10 Truths About Love, and it is the perfect movie for date nights. If you don’t have a date, it is just as perfect because you will feel like you are on one.
Carina (Camilla Belle) writes a love and romance column. She knows a lot about love because she has the perfect boyfriend, Tom (Karn Kalra), and she thinks he is going to propose to her. Instead, he breaks up with her.
To make matters worse, her boss just assigned her a co-worker who doesn’t have the same perspective about love and romance as she does. Liam (David Lafontaine) is the opposite of her. She likes lists, and he doesn’t. She believes in order, and he doesn’t. She believes in love, and he doesn’t.
However, when Liam finds out that Carina’s boyfriend dumped her, he says he will help her get him back. So together, they decided to write a column about that.
The more Liam tries to get Carina back with her ex, the more they realize that opposites do attract. However, neither one has told the other one that. Things get even more complicated when her ex tells her he wants her back.
Who is she going to choose? You are just going to have to watch this movie that is as sweet as the sweetest box of chocolates and as beautiful as the prettiest roses.
If this is what the RomComs on Tubi are going to be like, Hallmark and Lifetime have some serious competition, and I am all for it. Especially because they have so many other romantic comedies spend Valentine’s Day and any day with.
The In-Between is not your typical love story, but it is one that will leave a lasting impression on your heart. If you are looking for a romance movie to watch, then you are going to want to stream it on Paramount+ today, and any time you need a reminder that love never dies,
Tessa (Joey King) is a high school student who has lived more life than people twice her age. She never knew her father, and her mother is no longer in the picture. Because of that, she likes to take photos with a camera that uses film as compared to digital.
She has just moved in with a man, who used to date her mom, and his new wife. She is starting to know what love is, but it is going to take some time because she never really knew it.
One day she goes to the town theater, and they are showing a movie in French. However, there are no subtitles. So the only other person in the theater, a teenage boy, will whisper the translation into her ear. How romantic?
When the lights come up, the boy introduces himself as Skylar (Kyle Allen). The two promise to meet again at the theater. Sadly, they didn’t exchange information, and it looks like their one meeting will be just that.
That is until someone asks her to photograph the crew team competing against another school. When she zooms in and looks at the other team, she sees Skylar. This time the two exchange information, and so begins their love affair.
Slowly, Tessa is letting him into her heart. She is learning what love is, and things are going great for them.
Then one-night fate happens, and their love story changes. They meet up, and suddenly a car appears out of nowhere, and it hits them both. Tessa survives, but Sklar doesn’t.
Even though he is dead, he is still with her. He is trying to reach out to her from the beyond, and no one believes her when she tells them that.
Tessa meets a woman that explains that he is in the In Between. It is like a waiting room, and he will only be there for a limited time. As long as he is there, he can try to reach out to her. But she has to find a way to let him know she hears him. Will she be able to do it before it is too late? Can they have the perfect goodbye that was taken from them that fateful night?
The In Between doesn’t feel like a love story between two high school students. It feels like one that everyone of any age can appreciate. We all have that great love that we think even death cannot separate us. This proves to us it doesn’t.
We might say until death we do part in our wedding vows, but none of us want that. We want our love to go on for an eternity. This gives us hope that it does,
Granted, I might be so invested in that concept because I honestly believed that King and Allen were soulmates. You get so invested in their character’s love for each other that you don’t want it or the movie to end. However, you will be satisfied with the ending.
If you are sick of the same old love story, then this is the film for you. It is a mix of romance, drama, horror, and hope. Love never dies, and neither will your love for The In Between.
One of the cool things about being a talk show host is that people sculpt your bust with some interesting materials. Case in point, here is Drew Barrymore and her co-host Ross Matthews’ heads made out of Tillamook cheese.
The sculptors did such a great job; I can’t tell which is the cheesier one in the photo. Can you tell them apart?
