Georgia Engel passed away on Friday at the age of 70. According to ABC News, her friend said the cause of death is unknown because she was a Christian Scientist.
Engel is best known for playing the lovable, naive Georgette, who was smarter than everyone thought, on The Mary Tyler Moore. From that show on, she continued to act, sing and dance on television and on the stage. In fact, her last role was One Day at a Time just last year.
Between those two shows, her big welcoming smile was seen on Mork & Mindy, Coach, Passions, The Office, Two and a Half Men and Hot In Cleveland to name a few.
Along with those roles, she had a memorable one as Brad Garrett’s sweet and innocent mother-in-law with a little bit of a naughty side to her. To me that perfectly sums up the actress, she looks so sweet and innocent, but you can tell there is just some so naughty about her.
She just had a way about her that drew you to her. Her comedic timing came naturally. I have been watching her in repeats of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on Sundance Channel, and the newbie held her own against all of those comedic legends. In fact, sometimes she was even better than all of them. There was just so much light in that little package.
Today honor the Tinkerbell of the Hell’s Angels, as Don Rickles described her as, in one of her many great roles. Remember her with a smile as big as hers because I am sure that is how she would want to be remembered.
Before Erica Gimple owned a music store on Gd Friended Me, she went to the School of Performing Arts in Fame. She looks the same now as she did when he was 17 in that 1984 episode.
Even though Manifest started out with ratings that were sky high, those numbers quickly dropped along with the show’s creativity in my opinion. Therefore, it is kind of surprising that NBC picked up the show for a second season when they have so many other stronger shows that were already picked up.
Manifest joins The Blacklist, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, Good Girls, The Good Place, Law & Order: SVU, New Amsterdam, Superstore and Will & Grace on the 2019-2020 schedule. Missing from that list is This Is Us, but I am sure it will be back for a fourth season. If not, then fans of the show will send NBC execs on a 5-year plane ride.
On Febraury 3rd, Kristoff St. John passed away suddenly. That left The Young & The Restless in a tough situation. How would they handle the real life death of one of its longest characters. Today, they revealed how they will write off Neil Winters, a man who has been with them for 27 years.
Starting on April 23rd, Genoa City will be shocked to learn of his sudden passing. Over the next three days, they will remember their friend and family member. Shemar Moore, Christel Khalil and Eileen Davidson will return to say goodbye to him. Stan Shaw, Kristoff’s longtime friend and co-star from Roots: The Next Generations will appear as the Reverend at his funeral on April 25.
Then on April 29th, St. John will get a stand-alone tribute episode where current and past cast members like Victoria Rowell and Mishael Morgan will talk about the man that touched all of their lives.
This is a storyline no soap opera wants to do, but you know they will do a good job remembering someone that has been with them for over a quarter of a century. Get the tissues ready because we are going to need them.
