John Mayer learned another perk about dating Katy Perry yesterday. Not only does he get to feel her perks; but when he is given the opportunity to guest host The Late Late Show on CBS, he gets the first interview with someone everyone has been wanting to talk to since Sunday. Not Malcolm Butler. Not Pete Carroll. But the Super Bowl halftime sharks! More importantly the Left Shark.
So how has their life changed since Sunday? What happened to the Left Shark? And so on… He got none of those answers because sharks are not dolphins and they don’t talk.
So I need to reword part of this post and say that John Mayer got the first sit down with the Super Bowl halftime sharks! Not a bad exclusive for someone who made his debut as a talk show host yesterday.
He did such a good (well it was already scheduled), he will be back on the show tonight and tomorrow at 12:35a.
Ever since Jimmy Fallon hosted The Late Show on NBC, he has tried his hardest to facilitate a Saved By the Bell reunion to no avail. I asked him about a year ago, now that he was going to be taking over The Tonight Show if he would try to make that dream come true. He told me, “OMG! I gave up on that. I got bored with that one.”
That was then, and this is now. Tonight, the halls of Bayside High are alive again because it happened! It really really happened. Mark Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Tiffani Amber Thiessen and Dennis Haskins schooled the host about what it was like to be on SBTB and it is like totally awesome!
That’s right Zack, Kelly, Slater and Jessie put on their acid wash jeans and Mr Belding suited up for the occasion and not one of them has aged a day since they graduated from the roles that will forever be a part of childhoods.
I could tell you more about it, but you need to appreciate it for the masterpiece that is. There are so many dope moments in the nearly 9 minute bit that you want to drink them all up. Elizabeth Berkley said it best when she Tweeted to Fallon, “thank you for making this joyful moment for everyone happen! You brought us all back to an innocent time.” It truly was and I am glad for a little bit of time today, we were all innocent again thanks to someone’s fantasy becoming a reality.
With a little luck sometime I come across a really phenomenal Before They Were Famous, tonight there was a lot of luck on my side because I hit the trifecta. Here is a 27 year old Michael Keaton, a 31 year old David Letterman and a 34 year old Swoosie Kurtz singing and dancing on Mary Tyler Moore’s variety show Mary back in 1978.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t stop watching one of the greatest moments on television that barely anyone has ever seen!
I really hope and pray that David Letterman recreates this moment on The Late Show before he retires. What a fantastic dream that would be!
