The Simpsons is back for a record breaking 25th season tonight at 8p on Fox, and just like the characters, the show is ageless. But that doesn’t mean just because they don’t age that none of them will ever die. Tonight someone will bite the bullet (that is not a hint how they died…or is it?) and Springfield will never be the same.
Before we get to that, there’s a timeless Couch Gag done by Oscar nominated Don Hertzfeldt to open the show. Something that is so mesmerizing you don’t want to miss it, so make sure TV sets are tuned to Fox by 7:58p.
And time is something that The Simpsons know all about, and won’t mention again. Since the animated sitcom has been on the air for a quarter of century, there have been events that have been forecasted by it. As we know Lisa Simpson’s wedding date has come and gone and some say they almost predicted this year’s Super Bowl back in 2005. Earlier this week, I was on a conference call with Executive Producer, Al Jean, and I asked him about that. The EP, who has been with the show since day one, told us we will not be seeing the future on future episodes. In fact, he told us he was warned about dates a long, long time ago. He explained, “Brad Bird (Executive Consultant), when we did the first flashback to 1974, said you’re going to be sorry. Bugs Bunny was never locked into 1939, and now you’re going to be stuck with this. And we said oh, how long could the show last? Five, ten years? And he was right.” Twenty-Five years later this is something that they have a sense of humor about and we will see them making fun of being dateless in future episodes this season. Jean said, “the future is the future and the past is the past, and we will not do another show where we advance the time. We’ll stick to the continuity that we’ve described, as insane as it is. “
Now, it is time for the episode to start and the season begins with a Roast for Springfield’s favorite clown, Krusty. Although you wouldn’t know that by all the harsh things that Jeff Ross, Sarah Silverman and Carrot Top have to say about him. Their words hurt him so much; it will convince him to do something that will leave Springfield devastated.
But not as devastated as when one of their own dies. The episode that has been talked about for almost a year is finally here. Who will die is the biggest question the show has asked since “Who shot Mr. Burns?” almost 2 decades ago.
So who will it be? We know that it is a great character whose voice won an Emmy for the role. I would tell you more, but if I did, I would end up like said character. Jean did say that the person who dies tonight will stay dead. Since this is animation, the recently departed can come back in dreams or flashback.
Still not giving you a clue to who it is. But I will tell you their goodbye is a touching sweet one and so are the ramifications of their death for some of our residents.
There is a reason why The Simpsons is the longest running series on television, and has no foreseeable end date. It is because no matter how old it gets, it is still as fresh as when they were part of The Tracey Ullman Show way way way back when. So tune in tonight and every Sunday night for a show that is so popular that FXX recently dedicated 12 straights days to airing every episode of it and the network scored its highest ratings to date. If The Simpsons can do that with old episodes after 25 years, imagine what they can do with the new ones. You don’t want to miss a single one of them starting tonight.

Tonight at 9p on Fox The Griffins go to Springfield on the season premiere of Family Guy and it might be one of the best things ever. If you have ever seen any episodes of The Simpsons and Family Guy, then you MUST watch this episode because you are going to love it. Both shows do things that they’ve never done before when they are together, and for years you have wanted to see them do these things but didn’t know it. You get a bad a$$ Homer Simpson and tamer Peter Griffin, and it is just what you needed.
The episode starts off in Quahog and Peter is now a cartoonist for the local paper. When his cartoons offend his neighbors, The Griffins are chased out of town. After traveling all night, they finally stop at gas station. When they come out of the store, someone steals their car with everything in. Now they must walk to the next inhabited area and it is, wait for it, SPRINGFIELD!
The first place they stop at is the Kwik-E-Mart where they meet Apu. He shows them a thing called the doughnut, but they don’t have any money to pay for them. A kind stranger offers to buy them a dozen. That stranger is Homer Simpson and a friendship is sealed with some frosting.
The two families become quick friends and we get two watch their worlds collide. Homer and Peter are like Dumb and Dumber, but even better.
The two men come up with different ways to get The Griffins’ car back and you will see things that can’t be unseen. No matter how hard they try, they can’t find the automobile and looks like The Griffins will be stuck there forever. Which I think would be the best thing ever.
But back to the hour-long special episode. Everything is copacetic between the two men, until… When that moment happens, they will have the greatest chicken fight ever that goes on for almost 10 minutes. It is so epic that you don’t want to miss a single punch.
Actually, you don’t want to miss a single second of this episode. The town of Springfield gets to do things they’ve never done before, and it doesn’t feel wrong. There are so many jokes, guest appearances and so much more, that any fan of The Simpsons will appreciate what the people at Family Guy have done with their time in Springfield.
It is so enjoyable and loveable, that you will wish that Fox cancels Mulaney (this is just one of the many many many many reasons) ASAP and pick up The Simpsons Guy to series. Why can’t they? They seriously need to do it.
Don’t take my word for it, take it from The Simpsons’ Executive Producer Al Jean. On a conference call earlier in the week, he had this to say about the crossover episode “I’ve seen the whole episode, and I loved it. That’s probably my strongest recommendation.” Then he added, “I don’t want to reveal the jokes in it; but I thought it was actually sweet, and it made me laugh multiple, multiple times, so I’m glad it exists. If they sold a DVD of it, I’d buy it.” He isn’t the only one, all of us will want to own the DVD as soon as it comes out. You know, Fox will be rushing this out to the market because loyal fans of both shows will want it tomorrow, if not sooner. So don’t only watch this episode live, DVR it. This way you can watch it over and over again until it is available for us to own.
I seriously can’t praise this episode enough because it is that phenomenal. My hat is off to everyone involved with it because what they did will finally earn them that Emmy they said they have never won.

Resurrection is back on ABC tonight at 9p, and the second season opener doesn’t disappoint.
The episode takes place a week after the season finale, and Agent Bellamy (Omar Epps) has been gone for just that amount of time. He doesn’t remember anything since that day he went missing.
The first thing that he does when he gets back to Arcadia is tell the Langstons, he doesn’t know what happened to their Resurrected son, Jacob (Landon Gimenez). To his surprise, Jacob is there and he is allowed to stay at his home with his parents.
You see, since that day a week ago, all the Resurrecteds, who still have family in Arcadia, are allowed to stay with them. The rest of them were taken away to a mysterious place and we don’t know where that is.
Something Agent Bellamy can’t find out because he has been shut out from his job. The reason why has something to do with what happened to him since he disappeared a week ago. What happened? You just have to tune in tonight and every Sunday at 9p to find out. You also don’t want to miss the interesting twist that the show’s producers added for the second season. A twist, some will see coming and others will need to see for themselves at the end of the episode when it is revealed.
