Nigel Lythgoe has been doing reality TV since he came to The States, and now he going to try doing scripted television by remaking Fame according to Playbill. The 1980 movie was brought back to the big screen in 2009 and it bombed, but yet MGM thinks the 1982 series has a better chance of making it under his lead. Something that has proven not to work not once but twice before. Back in 1997 Fame LA aired for one whole season and then in 2003 NBC tried a reality version of it that lasted just one summer.
What bothers me about Nigel at the helm is I bet the show would be cast with American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance rejects. Yes they can sing and dance, but can they act. A big part of scripted television is acting and I am not sure a lot those contestants can do it. Plus he has an ego as big as his teeth and I think he will ruin a perfectly good bad show by thinking he can do something better with it and he won’t be able to. His ideas for improving shows like Idol and SYTYCD have actually made me give them up instead of watching them more often. I used to love SYTYCD and now every time I see a commercial for it, I cringe.
Dax Shepard was on Conan last night and he told Conan O’Brien that he wants to fight the cast of The Expendables 2. Now before you think the future-Mr Kristen Bell is a complete idiot, he doesn’t want to fight the younger members of the cast like Terry Crews, Jason Statham or Randy Couture. He wants to take on the oldies Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Dolph Lundgren. He thinks he would be able to take them on and actually win because he is younger than them. But let’s be real if this match were to really happen, the Parenthood star will be making like his movie and be Hit and Run like the wind. Seriously does he really think that Rocky/Rambo couldn’t knock him out with one punch? Yes Dax is tall, but Sly’s muscles are the six of Dax’s lean body.
And he should really be afraid of the cast because he used some fighting words against the first movie, he describe a part of it by saying “This is the gayest scene I have ever seen in a movie and I have seen gay sex movies.” I so can’t wait for the day when he meets up with some of the cast of the movie, you know because they will show him what it means when you put your foot in your mouth…literally.

Alec Baldwin has a new wife and looks like he has a new hair color to go with it. The brunette part appears to have been lightened by the sun while the sides remain grey. Because of the two-tones, doesn’t it look like he is wearing toupee?
After years of whining and complaining about how small his studio is, Craig Ferguson finally got a new one for the show. Yesterday on The Late Late Show he debuted the new stage and it is bigger with much more wood to make the ladies and Geoff Peterson very happy! It looks the same, but they added a fake fireplace, a space with a window, a better LA background and the best part is that Secretariat got his own door to come in whenever it is called for. It is a whole new look for the CBS show, but the host remains the same old Scot he has always been.
I can’t wait to see the new set in person, but sadly I know that my friends who got me into the show will get to see it first. I will be stuck babysitting their kid that was conceived while watching The Late Late Show, which probably explains why she does such a great Scottish accent when I ask her to do it. She also does a great Geoff Peterson and maybe that explains why she has such big electric blue eyes…
Steve Burton has been playing Jason Morgan for 21 years on General Hospital and that run is old enough to drink. That is something fans of his will need because he told TV Guide that he is leaving the lone ABC soap. He told the mag, “I’ve been through 21 years of ups and downs with GH — regime changes, cast and crew changes, budget cuts, shakeups of one kind or another, and it’s been nothing but a huge positive in my life and for my family. I have no complaints, no negative feelings at all. But it’s time to go. I’m going to take some time off and do nothing but relax, just enjoy life a little bit with my wife and kids.” He added that he bought a house in Tennessee and finally sold his LA one, so the time is right to move his family there.
Even though the show tried to keep him, he is at that point in his life where is ready to move on. And he could be doing so as early as September 25th, but he said he offered to stay on a little while longer so they can wrap up his storyline. Now even though he last day of filming could be as early as a month from now, we will see him on the show until as late as November.
So besides the big move across the country, he is also working on a television show with James Franco (who is partially responsible for getting on GH) and former GH EP Jill Farren Phelps, but he is not supposed to be talking about it just yet.
What I will be talking about is that I think it is such a shame that he is leaving the show. He is the heart and soul of the daytime drama. I understand his wanting to leave because 21 years is a really long time, but I will sincerely miss my favorite character on General Hospital.
UPDATE: Maurice Bernard Tweeted about his Partner in Crime leaving him a lurch, he said “Steve leaving is like a family member leaving the house. I may cry like a little girl who just lost her puppy.” I already have!
