Pete Doherty banned from BBC Children’s TV
January 14th, 2007 under Pete Doherty/Kate Moss. [ Comments: none ]

Pop star Pete Doherty has been banned by the BBC from appearing on their children’s television programmes because bosses believe he is a bad role model for youngsters. Doherty, who was arrested early yesterday on suspicion of the theft of a car in Hackney, East London, is barred from Saturday children’s music show TMi, flagship news programme Newsround, Blue Peter, Children In Need shows and all other programmes under the CBBC banner. The drug addict and boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss could find the ban hits sales of records by his band Babyshambles among children. A BBC spokesman said: "Pete Doherty is well known for his drug-taking and criminal behaviour and is not an appropriate CBBC guest." He added that it was an ‘editorial decision based on target audiences’. The censorship of the 27-year-old singer was revealed as part of a discussion on news judgment during the BBC review programme Newswatch. Answering questions about Doherty, Newsround editor, Tim Levell, said: "On Newsround we have an informal agreement we don’t cover Pete Doherty at all – in fact, there is one across the whole of BBC Children’s TV. "And if his management asked if he could be a guest on a Saturday morning show, we would say no because we don’t think he is a good role model for children." Mr Levell admitted Doherty was newsworthy, saying: "I can see how many news channels want to cover him because he is a sort of flawed genius. "Personally I think he has a little too much coverage – particularly because he hasn’t had any hit singles. I couldn’t sing a single Doherty song." There is no ban in force on the BBC’s radio channels – Radio One regularly features the singer in news stories and on their playlists. Andy Boyd, Doherty’s manager, said: "Kids who want to buy Peter’s records will not not buy them because the BBC are not supporting him. I would like their support, but it’s not critical to his future career. "Things are getting better and better and we are are about to sign the largest record deal of the year." But Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe said: "I think it is high time that it happened. With the way Pete Doherty behaves, is it the example you want to set to youth?"

The Evening Standard

I so agree with them, he is not a good influence on kids and I am glad they are taking a stand against him.

Kim Basinger finds out tomorrow if she will go to jail?
January 14th, 2007 under Divorce. [ Comments: none ]

Oscar winner Kim Basinger is due in court tomorrow to answer 12 contempt of court charges, and faces a 60-day jail sentence and $12,000 fine if she’s found guilty. The L.A. Confidential star is accused by ex-husband Alec Baldwin of breaching a 2004 custody agreement laying down who should look after their 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. Baldwin alleges Basinger failed to tell him she’d be out of town, not giving him an opportunity to care for their daughter. He also claims Basinger failed to inform him of an injury Ireland suffered which needed medical attention. Court papers filed by Baldwin’s lawyer allege Basinger has a "pathological need" to distance Ireland from her father, with one section claiming, "Over and over, Ms. Basinger demonstrated that her resentments are more precious to her than the emotional well-being of her child." The Los Angeles Superior Court has yet to consider the content of the papers.

Hollywood

It seems like these two are putting their divorce ahead of Ireland, which is sad.

PAUL McCartney and Heather Mills are set to battle it out for public support—on rival US TV shows. Sir Paul has been asked to appear as a guest judge on pop reality show American Idol. While, incredibly, Heather hopes to take part in Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing. The couple—locked in a £200million divorce battle—both holidayed last week. Sir Paul, 64, is pictured here in Jamaica with daughter Beatrice, three. Heather spent her 39th birthday in a tatty Slovenian ski resort. Macca is yet to decide if he’ll go on US Idol, possibly in April. It’s believed he could be paid as much as £200,000 for 90 minutes’ work. But a pal said: "It would put him back on the box in the US." And Heather believes she can survive the rigours of a dance contest, despite being an amputee.

News of the World

Paul McCartney was rumored for Idol last year too, so I doubt this is true. When it comes to Dancing with the Stars, I pray it is not true.
