ABC has yanked Ted Danson laffer "Help Me Help You." Following a disastrous ratings perf Tuesday, net has decided to pull next week’s episode of the skein. Instead, ABC will air back-to-back episodes of another low-rated laffer, "Big Day," from 9-10 p.m. Nothing’s official yet, but it’s never a good sign when a network pulls a show from its schedule in the dog days of December. Unless "Big Day" shows some improvement soon, it’s possible ABC might have no choice but to pull or reschedule that skein as well. Tuesday’s episode of "Big Day" averaged a 1.8/5, marking the third consecutive week of ratings decline for the show since its debut. "Help Me," meanwhile, stumbled to a 1.4/3, its lowest rating to date.

NBC is developing a one-hour reality pilot called "Comedy Colosseum," where comedians will vie for a $10,000 prize in an arena setting. Each comedian will be judged solely on the laughter of randomly selected and unsuspecting members of the crowd. Hosted by "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Dean Edwards and British comedian Olivia Lee, "Comedy Colosseum" is based on the hit Japanese show "Theiromonea."

Despite a downpour of rain, the stars showed up in spades on Dec. 9 for the stateside celebration of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding. Those unable to make it to the couple’s Italian nuptials on Nov. 18 were treated to an A-list affair at the Hollywood home of Tom’s producing partner, Paula Wagner. But noticeably absent once again was a certain couch-owning billionaire — Oprah Winfrey. Why exactly is it that Tom, who infamously — and enthusiastically — proclaimed his love for Katie on The Oprah Winfrey Show, cut the talk-show queen from the invite list for a second time? “Tom’s always been angry that Oprah gave so many outlets permission to air and re-air his couch-jumping stunt, because it got blown out of proportion,” an insider tells Life & Style. “He wouldn’t have minded if the moments preceding and following the jump got the same play as the actual act. The funny thing about Tom is that he still insists he didn’t do anything wrong on that show and that it was all innocent fun.” As innocent as his failure to invite Oprah?

Usmagazine.com has learned exclusively that Nicole Richie is telling friends that the reason she was on the painkiller Vicodin during her recent arrest was to treat menstruation cramps. Richie, 25, was arrested early Monday morning for driving under the influence of marijuana and Vicodin, after she was seen driving the wrong way down a California highway. Vicodin is an opiate and Richie’s involvement with the drug raises concern because she was once hooked on heroin, and former addicts who dabble in other drugs risk relapse. But pals of the Simple Life star insist that Richie has changed her ways since completing drug rehab in 2003. "She knows she made a mistake, but overall she’s in a better place," says a close friend of Richie. "She has come a long way from her heroin days." The celebutante is said to be upset over media reports that she’s addicted to pills, and is insisting to friends that she only "occasionally" takes Vicodin once a month at the start of her menstruation cycle. Richie is also upset that the police listed her at 85 pounds because "she’s so proud of her weight gain," says the source, who adds that Richie has gained about ten pounds in the last two months and now weighs around 95 pounds. "She doesn’t know where the cops came up with 85 pounds and it’s annoying to her." The embattled reality star spent Tuesday afternoon on the L.A. set of a music video for Good Charlotte with Joel Madden, 27, the band’s front man and Richie’s current flame. She is now resting at her West Hollywood condo. Richie’s rep has no comment.
